Mindi Schmitz Executive Director
Welcome summer 2021! We are in full swing here at The Arts Center! I am writing this a the week before Chalkfest, but I can only imagine it was a huge success. We were so fortunate to have 10 nationally known professional Chalk Artists in Jamestown, who transformed (2nd Avenue SW) and the Hansen Arts Park into a their artistic canvas. It took a whole lot of effort to put this together, our sponsors (listed below), our volunteers, our board, and of course our small— but mighty Arts Center staff. Thank you Jamestown! The Downtown Arts Market is happening every Thursday through the summer. Our summer camps are underway with a few openings, especially the Summer Musical “Recess” with auditions Friday, July 9 and the 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at The Two Rivers Performing Arts School. And we have a few adult classes planned for the summer as well. We couldn’t do all of these things without the support of our members and local businesses. Please thank those listed this news letter. With their support we are able to provide top-notch performers for the Downtown Arts Market. Sincerely,
Thank you to these organizations for helping bring CHALKFEST to town. Sabirs, Jonny B’s, Babbs, Dominos, Jamestown Inflatables, Quality Inn AND:
Special thank you to John Zvirovski for planting the flowers in Hansen Arts Park, Christine Witt, Lynn Lambrecht, and Rosemary McDougall for keeping the park looking great, and to Cecilia and Dave Collins in memory of Florence Trudell. Also a special shout out to Maris Thompson, Nadine Kainz, Aloha Kercher and Dina Laskowski for helping out in the office.

JAMESTOWN OPTIMIST CLUB
PUT A MASK ON IT: July 15 – August 21, 2021 Over the past year, people worldwide shared in the pandemic experience. It changed our lives in such a way that the years 2020 and 2021 will live on in our collective psyche. Everything changed and humanity reacted in extraordinary ways. There has been loss, sorrow, hardship but also resilience, reconnection, humor and creativity. This exhibition was inspired by what we were seeing artists create in reaction to the accoutrements of Covid19––particularly the surgical-style face mask. We’ve all had a love-hate relationship with the mask, it helped protect us from transmission of the virus, but also became a powerful political symbol and an accessory for personal expression. Whatever your view, “the mask” has touched our lives and will be forever part of our personal history. Many artists have created works that include mask imagery. The exhibition includes ceramics, photographs, mixed media, assemblages, drawings and paintings. Currently twelve artists are included in this group show. Special Project: If you have cloth masks that you would now like to get rid of, please recycle them by dropping them off at The Arts Center anytime. Please wash them. The masks will be repurposed into a textile project during the Downtown Arts Market July 15.

take note THE 2021 MINI-ART HUNT:
Where do the gnomes roam?
A Jamestown annual favorite. Bringing art to the people, and people to the parks. THE HUNT BEGINS: Saturday, July 24 and ends when all twelve art works are found! You can find clues on The Arts Center’s Facebook page (no table in the park this year). The Mini-Art Hunt is an annual favorite in Jamestown. Twelve unique mini-artworks by artist Cindi Psychos will be roaming throughout the Jamestown parks and Historic Sites. Can you find them? Cindi’s hand carved wooden gnomes are roaming throughout the parks. Cindi has been a long-time member of The Arts Center and the Wood Chippers carving group. The gnomes have been carved from Aspen trees sourced from Jackson Hole, Whyoming..
CLUES: Three Sets of Visual Clues (photos) to each artwork’s hiding place will be made public on Saturday, July 24th at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. The first clues will be the most challenging with the final clues being the most revealing. ARTWORK HUNTING: All artwork will be hidden in PLAIN SIGHT—You will not have to move, dig, or otherwise damage anything. Visual clues to the artwork hiding places will be posted on our Facebook page. FOUND: Finders keepers! This original piece of miniature artwork is yours to keep. Be sure to REPORT YOUR FIND. No one wants to be hunting for a piece that has already been found. Post a photo of yourself and your found treasure to our Facebook or Instagram page. Or contact the Arts Center office (701-251-2496 or you can email info@jamestownarts.com) to report your find.
