How could another year be flying by? With the 50 mph wind today, it is literally flying by. When I look at everything The Arts Center has done this past year, it is truly phenomenal. Not only was the building renovation completed, but during that “out of office” time, programming continued at full speed. There were arts in the schools, arts after school, Saturday classes, family workshops, Art Hunt, summer arts sessions, and touring theatre – and that was just the work that impacted 1,728 students and teachers! Adults were able to enjoy the exhibits, gala, wine & cheese tasting, Oktoberfest, “Odd Couple”, performances by area musicians, “Barefoot in the Park”, Caravanserai musicians, Evening With series, and numerous classes…not to mention, the fun activities provided for residents at Ave Maria and the Heritage Center including the performance by Myron Sommerfeld. I’m exhausted just reading this list! As many of you know, The Arts Center’s revenue has been decreased, while our expenses continue to increase... These amazing programs, artists, performers and events are not cheap. As part of your yearend giving, we would ask you to consider The Arts Center when making your contributions. MICHAEL WHISLER HAS A NEW ALBUM - “Until then”
an accomplished acoustic finger-style guitarist and songwriter, Michael Whisler is first known as a solo guitarist, so you might be surprised with his warm vocals. Michael’s music is Americana, drawing from American Folk, blues and classical music.

“sticks & stones” - Recent Ceramics by Brad Bachmeier October 18 - December 1, 2012 The “Sticks and Stones” exhibit is inspired by the physical and geological properties of both rock and clay as materials. Through hiking, collecting, studying and observing, Bachmeier is constantly inspired and amazed by the qualities and beauty of rocks and geological formations in nature. Because rock and stone are the parent material of clay, the investigation of renewing that connection and heritage through both modern and ancient firing techniques seems natural. The collection and study of rocks from around the world also fits beautifully into Bachmeier’s study of the universal, cultural and ancient use of ceramics. For the first time, Bachmeier’s work also demonstrates a botanical influence which surfaces through the use of original Chinese celadon glazes and as textural influences and handle inspirations.
Exhibit Reception & Gallery Talk with the Artist Friday, November 30, 2012, 5:30 pm at The Arts Center Gallery Bachmeier creates ceramic vessels and sculpture that tell the story of man’s ancient and universal partnership with clay through the use of religion studies, global patterns, symbols, and iconography. Clay is investigated in this exhibit as it fits into his “Primal Element Series” through a variety of primitive and low-temperature firing techniques as well as a variety of clay bodies and surface treatments including glaze, terra-sigilata, burnishing and marbling. The workshop will include a short gallery tour. Then delve into the mud as you learn new skills and techniques to apply to your own ceramic works. Space is limited. Register early.
Brad Bachmeier currently serves as the Professor of Art Education at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Prior to that appointment in 2008, he served as a public school art instructor for 15 years, having the opportunity to teach in every grade from K-12 in both North Dakota and Minnesota. In 2007, upon completion of his MFA degree in ceramics from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, his exhibit “A Ceramic Humanity” was bestowed the only Award of Distinction for Creative Exhibition ever granted at the school. In 2009, Professor Bachmeier received the prestigious bi-annual ND Governor’s Award in Arts Education for his “numerous, significant and continued contributions to the state and region.” Brad’s ceramic work is collected nationally and has been featured on HGTVs’ “That’s Clever” and Prarie Public TV’s “Prairie Mosaic”. Bachmeier has also been awarded the national NICHE award in wheel-thrown ceramics as well as the ARTBUZZ International art competition 3rd place award in ceramics. Brad’s work is in numerous regional and national public and private collections including the ND Governor’s Mansion, The Microsoft Permanent Collection and Michelle Obama’s office in the White House.
