Conference XC Times Editorial Board

It is hard to believe that it is already time for the conference meet, but here we are! Cross country season seems to go so fast once we get started. We have been very proud of our team’s preparation and ethic coming into the season and all throughout. We are looking forward to getting the payout for all of our investment! The Women’s Race The weather gods have not been kind to us lately. Last meet was wet and muddy and unfortunately today’s course is not much different. Nevertheless, we are hungry for today’s race. We are relatively healthy and ready for a big day regardless of the course conditions. For some, the conference meet is the last meet of the season and it is always a little bit of a mix bag of emotion at these conference meets. I am very proud of our team and all their efforts and great attitude. I’d like to thank our seniors Audrey Klein and Rebekah Brainard for the commitment and leadership. It has been a great season and we are more than ready for championship season! Men’s Race Today is a great day to run! Excited to watch our men toe the line at 11:00 AM for our first championship meet of the season! We're as healthy and fit as we've been all year. We have all the pieces of our puzzle together today for the first time all season. This is as strong as I can ever remember this conference. With 6 regionally ranked teams it's going to take our best race of the fall to crack the top half. We're excited to compete!

Behind the Ropes By Mackenzie Laughlin Running and I have a love-hate relationship. Meaning that I love running but running just doesn’t seem to quite like me sometimes. Between the last 8 years of running, I have had countless injuries. Some have kept me out for a few weeks, and some have kept me out for a whole season. As unfortunate as that is, I wouldn’t trade those injuries for anything. They have made me truly grasp my love for running. They say you don’t realize how much you love something until it’s gone, and they are absolutely right. It is so hard to watch your best friends do what you love and not be able to do it with them, but I have loved cheering them on every step of the way. Getting injured in my freshman year of college was tough, but it made me lean on my teammates who were there through it all. Running has brought me my best friends and I love that I am finally healthy enough to run with them. Not only have my teammates been an incredible support system, but my parents, Doug and Michelle, have truly seen the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of me. From taking me to multiple doctor appointments, listening to my weekly phone calls, and coming to every single meet no matter the distance, they have shown me what true support is. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and I could never thank them enough. So, thank you, running for showing me my best friends and teaching me about resiliency. Thank you for showing me how to lean on others in times of adversity. And most importantly thank you running, for showing me Simpson cross country! I can’t wait to toe the line with them at the conference meet and show everyone else how hard we’ve worked. Roll Storm!
