The Women’s Race With another couple of weeks of hard work, the Storm women are ready for this week’s challenge. We will face the best field of the season including American River foes whom we will see for the first time. We are relatively healthy coming into today’s meet and after a brutally hot and humid race at Bradley, the women are ready for some cooler race conditions. Audrey Klein has been battling some illness is back to her frisky self and should lead the storm through the first mile. A healthy Emily Buchheit is excited to get back to her strong and quick ways. We have a great pack of sophomores led by Katie Murano, Kylie Orr and Cat Lucht. They arrived on campus in great shape and will be counted on to round out our scoring Men’s Race After our best two weeks of training of the season, I’m very much looking forward to the meet. One thing is certain, the weather will be much more conducive to distance running then our previous meet with cooler temps. This meet will boast some of the top teams in region and Midwest which will be a great challenge for our squad. The Dan Huston meet is always an excellent morning of cross country and we’re excited to get on the startling line! Spencer Moon and Jonathan Facio look to lead us up front and form a great 1-2 punch. Next we’re excited to see a large group pack-up and score well for us. Ryan Courtney, Shane Breheny, and Cale Billheimer have had exceptional workouts these past few weeks and are really looking to build upon their excellent start to the season. We have some very strong freshman who look to improve from their first 8k of their careers, Eric Baldus, Noah Nelsen, and Ean Warrick are doing a tremendous job for us. All in all, we’ve got a deep and talented team and I’m excited to see all of our men perform at a high level Saturday.

Chase the Gator By Josh Paulson
My experience with Simpson XC has been eventful to say the least. It has When I was choosing which college to attend, my final decision was made by asking myself which school I would be happiest at if I was no longer able to run. I really enjoyed Heath as a coach and loved how close Simpson was to Des Moines. What I didn’t realize was that the Simpson Cross Country team was going to be the biggest influence on my college experience. The comradery and sense of community that comes from being a part of the Simpson Cross Country team is something that I would not have been able to get from any other schools. I am thankful for all of the people that I have met these last four years and I thank you for all of the memories that were made. Roll Storm. -
Behind the Ropes by Stephanie Paulson Josh started his college search at Simpson when he was a junior in high school. He immediately connected with Heath and began to seriously consider running in college. Over the next 9 months, we visited many colleges, but he always felt like Simpson was the right place for him. I think his connection with Heath played a large part in his decision. From the moment he arrived on campus, he had an instant family with his cross-country teammates. Josh’s freshman year was plagued with injury and illness. He learned to work through the challenges and take better care of his body. Each time he would come home for break, I would see a noticeably more mature man starting to develop. His passion for running and fitness continued to develop as his confidence in his running ability increased. We are so thankful that Josh found his home at Simpson College! His coaches and teammates have been such a huge part of his success and growth. In addition to becoming a better runner, he has also developed into a responsible young man who is more than ready for the next chapter of life.

In the Chute By Emily Buchheit
Racing Healthy I have been running since I can remember and it has always been something I loved to do. These past few years have been tough though and have made me question why I even do the sport. Dealing with little nagging injuries all season long has been incredibly frustrating. All the training seems to be a waste when you can’t race. All the doubts go away when you finally have that really good race or workout. Last meet at Peoria was the first time I felt good racing in a year. The good races are nice and all but the thing that keeps me coming back to the sport is the team atmosphere. Our whole team is a big goof and I love it. It makes runs go by much faster when we are laughing and telling stories. I have always had a really strong support system and I can’t thank my parents, Mary and Dennis, enough for traveling to all the meets. They are both runners and I have them to thank for getting me into running in the first place. My sister Katie also comes to as many meets as she can and it means a lot to me to see them cheering me on. Two of my roommates, Ashlee and Jamie, are also on the team and it is really great to have people who also have to wake up at 6am for morning runs. Also special shout-out to my other roommate Abby Rose who is one of the most supportive people I know and I could not have survived this season without her. I am excited to see where this season takes us and I know we are a strong team who can accomplish great things. Wartburg is one of my favorite courses so I can’t wait for this race to see what we can do. Roll Storm!
