The Women’s Race It will be interesting to see just how good the Storm women are during championship season. Given how well the women ran in Lacross and also considering the two weeks of training that we’ve had, it could be a very good day for the Storm women. The storm will be led by Sadie Timms and Courtney Neuendorf who are having themselves outstanding seasons. Our next pack is a good one, featuring Mary Wood, Shelby Hunemiller and Emily Buchheit . Ashley Litterer is nursing a injury and it will be a game day decision whether she will run today. Audrey Klein will be back on the line after recovering from a nagging injury and how the rest of the storm finish, it will be very very interesting. The Storm are ready to shock the world!
Men’s Race We couldn’t be more excited to participate in the IIAC Conference Championship’s! Our men’s team has shown some great growth this season and I’m excited to see how we stack up against a very tough conference. All season we’ve been led by Senior Ian McKenzie and Junior Trey Thompson, and they both look primed to lead us once again Saturday. Jonathan Facio has been the surprise of the season and his confidence headed into the meet is high. Kyle Hovey had a big breakthrough at our past meet in Wisconsin which was much needed and great to see. Hopefully after these four we will have someone step up and help propel us to one of best conference finishes in recent history. We coming off our best two week training cycle of the season and we’re ready to toe the line at the conference championships!

Behind the Ropes On Being a Cross Country Parent By Heidi and Sean Thompson I didn’t know… How much it would hurt to send him out on a 12-mile run on an early Sunday morning. Alone. In the rain. The number of hours I would stand at the window waiting for him to safely return from his run. The exhilaration I’d feel when a race went great! And how my heart broke for him when a race did not go well. How many hours I would drive to watch an event that lasts for a few minutes. That chocolate milk could be considered healthy. That a pair of shoes only lasts a couple of months. How difficult those race maps are to read. The number of t-shirts runners have. The amount of laundry runners go through. That people will run until they puke or pass out. That training happens 365 days per year. Sock styles matter. How hard it is to take pictures of runners. That toenails will turn black. That runners, even when competing against each other, admire and celebrate each other’s successes. Most importantly, I didn’t know that running would mold Trey’s life. He’s made lifelong friends, has always had coaches that believed in him and pushed him, and has found the perfect place at Simpson College.

In the Chute Emily Buchheit
Running in college is something that I never thought I would do, but now I can’t imagine college without it. I was never that great of a runner in high school, but I loved the sport so I stuck with it. It was a great way to meet new people and hang out with my friends at the same time. That is one of the main reasons I decided to run in college because I thought it would make meeting new people a lot easier. Everyone on the team is really inclusive and nice so it has made going to college far away from home so much easier. This season has been going better than I thought it would at the beginning of the year. Early on I remember thinking I was really going to struggle with the extra mileage and the longer races. Luckily for me the adjustment to the 6k wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be; the extra little bit actually made the race easier. The races were much more enjoyable when I was able to run with other people on the team. They were really encouraging and always helped push me to the finish. I don’t think I could have managed the first half of the season when it was hotter without them. My experience here at Simpson so far has been full of great times and fun memories. Going out for cross country has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It truly has helped shape me into a better individual both in athletics and academics. I couldn’t have come this far without the help of the coaches and my teammates. I am so excited for the rest of the season and I can’t wait for the next three years.
