The Fall 2023 genetic evaluation was conducted by ASA and uses a North American multi‐breed dataset that includes data from Canadian Simmental, American Simmental, American Red Angus, Canadian Angus and American Gelbvieh, among other breeds. Evaluation results for most traits are directly comparable between participating breeds.

Welcome to the 11th annual Spring Select Simmental Bull and Female Sale in a new location at the Polar Farms Arena, and with an exciting new video format! Our sale last year was a roaring success with good friends Joe and Lindsay Loomis, and we immediately started planning the 2024 edition, with a specific focus on how we can best showcase the great genetics from FTF and Polar Farms, while providing a true customer experience. Graciously, the Loomis family offered up their riding arena for a Video sale event that allows for bulls to be viewed right on location in a more comfortable setting, and provides customers more focused time with the animals and the consigners. With day before viewing available, along with a later Auction start time at 4PM, you are more comfortably able to take your time walking through the bulls and females on offer. For this year we are selling each lot on their own via live auction on location using pre recorded videos, with full online access through DLMS.ca, and VJVauction.com, allowing customers to participate in various ways. As always there are proxy bid options as well as sale day phone contacts, so please be sure to reach out to your trusted sale staff contact in if you are unable to attend. Also new for this year – all FTF bulls are genetic tested for Homo Poll, Dilution, and Homo Black as applicable for the specific animal. Results are not available at time of catalogue print but are expected for sale day so please be sure to check our website fallentimberfarms.com, Cattlevids.ca, DLMS.ca or vjvauction.com for sale supplements. 2023 saw challenges across the West, but the Cattle industry was blessed with record high calf and slaughter prices. Regionally the Peace was struck with some of the worst drought conditions on record, but the cattle in the North are hard made, and came through it strong, which is a testament to the type of cattle bred and raised right here in the North and on offer in the Spring Select Sale. Both FTF and Polar herd’s utilized Bullseye ration this year for animal development, and the results are visible, both on the hoof, and in the bank account. Converting less pounds of feed into more pounds of red meat saves time and money, and really lightens the forage demand when supply is scares. The FTF bull offering in 2024 is exciting, with a few homerun Madden calves starting the catalogue off, and rolling right into our much anticipated MRL Authenticator 16J first calf crop. Authenticator was the high selling black bull in the MRL 2022 Bull sale and he has done nothing but impress. Our tried and true Whiskey and Daredevil Sires each have sale feature type bulls that you will be sure to have starred, and rounding the offering out are the easy doing McDavid sons. Back for this year on offer are the FTF registered open females, which are being offered under protest. We have a large keeper pen this year, and a short supply of pasture and dugout capacity by the looks of it, so we need to be responsible with numbers and will part with these sweethearts. The lead off bull in the catalogue this year is a true breeding specimen sired by our now tried and true walking sire VIRS Madden 338H. Big Mac has been a standout since day #1, catching attention in every pen and each pasture. Backed to our favorite Eagle Ridge cow 12A, she has raised some great calves over the years, with several daughters working right here. She is the pillar of our Fullblood program, with an absolute phenotype which we strive for, big square steep feet, heavy milking but trouble-free bag, and perfect pigment pattern. Big Mac is a long spined bull, striding out on big feet, heavy legs, and tracked gait. If you are attentive to EPD’s check this guy out with Top 1% in the breed for Wean Weight and Yearling Weight, and Maternal Wean Weight. We have high hopes for this herd sire in his future home.

Lariat should ‘catch’ some attention on sale day, with his smooth front third, long spine and balanced muscle pattern, Lariat is a moderate made fullblood that should fit into a variety of different cow herds. His damn is another favorite Eagle Ridge cow with perfect feet and udder and carries a shade darker hair colour then most. In the breeding department, Lariat’s Sire Madden is an aggressive breeder that never disappoints, and I suspect that this trait has passed along as 6L is always very interested in the heifers across the fence, and had many long-distance relationships over the winter!

59K is the exact type of bull we aim to make when we are using Fullblood genetics in our purebred herd. Smooth shoulders, big feet, dark and steep, with correct leg set, and added muscle in the quarter on a big hip all topped with a symmetrical blaze – these traits are the hallmarks of this cross, and we sure are excited when they are realized. Krain is a pleasure to have in the pen with his quiet disposition and “up to the trough attitude” when it is feeding time. Krain’s damn is a really sweet KRS cherry red female that works hard, keeps her shape is at the top in the feet and udder department. These purebred bulls sired by Madden are truly special as they are attractive as they are functional; balanced, yet powerful in all the right places. Coming into the world moderately at 86lbs, 158K never looked back, and gained consistently regardless of the severe drought conditions. This bull has a great hair coat, big quarter and wide top, all led by a smooth shoulder and tidy skull. Coming from a picture-perfect Flat Rock Female, who travels out on big dark feet, this matriarch is front pasture quality and a verified bull maker, with several sons out working on some big ranches in the Peace. The long-awaited lead off Authenticator son has finally made it to catalogue, and what better way then to present a calf from the herd of our eldest son Taos! We have been so very excited to share the genetics off this true breeding masterpiece, and this lead of future herd sire exemplifies the genetic potential Authenticator packs into his offspring. 447L is long in the spine, correct in the legs, and has ample muscle expression, with a small head, straight hair, and great growth, not to mention a nearly perfect curve bending EPD set. Here is another awesome Authenticator son, with a big top and an extra rib in that long spine. Lenox is a friendly bugger that makes me double take every time I see him, as he seems to pack extra muscle that you have to look again to appreciate. 771L goes back to a liver red female that is correct and tidy, and has a bright future here at FTF. Here again – what an EPD set. We look forward to many more of these calves in the coming years and will be searching for words I am sure, as they are so very consistent.

A red edition Authenticator calf here, moderate in make up, and a real heifer pen candidate sort of look. At just 78lbs BW, with top 1% in the breed for Calving Ease and BW, along with respectable growth spread, I would think this bull will service a heifer pen with ease. Authenticator himself is truly dual purpose, in that we use him with ease on our own heifers along with cows. 718K’s dam is a really dark correct Red Heat female back to a good Anchor D cow.

Red with a bit of Chrome, in a heifer pen candidate rig up, 91L should have some friends on sale day. LEO has an EPD spread to envy and a moderate 79lb BW. His liver red Tymarc female is the right size and shape, and is a pleasure to have around. This bull is chill chill, and I swear I could throw a leg over if he had a wither.

What a stud. I cannot say enough about 335K. He is a meat machine with a good northern hair coat giving ample cover to a big quarter, massive hip, and a table like top line that you could set dinner on for the whole family. Kaptain has a tidy head, excellent neck extension, and smooth shoulder, moving out efficiently. His dam is a member of the Destiny cow family that has graced the pages of this catalog many many times, with a total of 8 females related working in our herd, and 335D herself generating 4 bulls working big ranches right here in BC. Talk about a foundation female, with a never miss record, the Destiny females never disappoints, and this bull is sure to pass this maternal on.

Here is a cranker of a red bull packed full of meat and dressed in a great red hair coat. I appreciate the heck out of this bull’s natural muscle expression and growth, as he is a sleeper in the pen, but is almost always the bull folks come back to for a second look. Long and flat on the top line, with extra neck extension and really great leg set, coming back from the great mating from our now retired MRL Whiskey 54D, and a solid red foundation Capone female with a tidy udder and great foot.

A chrome edition Whiskey son from another foundation female here at FTF, Kodiak has a small 84Lb BW, and EPD spread that should draw a lot of attention, as he could fit into a few different roles depending on the herd. Calving ease credited back to our old AEDJ 12U cow, and performance on the Capone side, all packaged to provide genetic potential sure to add milk, and maternal traits without sacrificing growth which we all look forward to in the fall. Kodiak’s dam is a really great square uddered female that is a genuine sweetheart.

Lester has the typical “Daredevil” phenotype with a nice straight hair coat, cherry red color and attractive chrome package. I appreciate his smooth front and ample quarter. His damn is a real peach, the right size cow, and does well in our climate, with a nice square udder right full of milk and a huge foot. Lester’s Grand dam was Jamie’s favorite red cow. We recently chased down some more embryos and have some calves on the ground this year to build on the strong maternal in this bloodline.

Lex is an attractive rascal that is always up for a visit. Besides the nice baldy face he presents you with, there is ample scrotal packed under this guy and a really great balance in his carcass. Back to one of the biggest middled cows on the farm (if not maybe the biggest I have seen), hardiness is built into this pedigree. When the -40 locks in for a while Lex and his momma cow don’t seem to mind.

The final Daredevil up for consideration this year is a near identical half brother to those aforementioned. Laser is a real cookie cutter type bull with a tick more frame then his half brothers. Going back to the Chloe cow, this bloodline milks hard, and has strong maternal traits.

Although we are grateful to have enjoyed a few calf crops from our rising star herd sire, Northstar 49G, the 2 bulls on offer this year will be the last as no semen was collected prior to his departure. Teddy is a stereotypical Northstar calf, with tons of thick hair, a soft loose makeup and cat like track in his gate. Teddy has a big top and quarter. This bull would make a heck of an impact in a cowboy herd looking for some tan calves to push the scales down in the fall. Teddy’s damn, 515E is a really nice bootlegger female that is tough to fault back to a many time mentioned foundation cow family.

The youngster for sale in the offering this year is flashy McDavid Grandson, with a polled fullblood twist on the dam side, back to a matriarch Eagle Ridge Female who we unfortunately lost this year. The guaranteed most attentive bull curious in what you are doing this year is 214K. He is so similar to his sire; it is like going back in time to when he was a yearling. Here is an easy doing moderate made McDavid calf that should be looked at when considering your next heifer /2nd calver bull. This bull is clean fronted and tidy in his shoulder, with a good quarter to ensure some growth in his progeny. Firstly, we would like to thank Chet & Jamie for allowing us to be a part of their Spring Select sale for yet another year. Polar Farms (Joe, Lindsay, Riley & Kendal Loomis) is a growing ranch located 15km north of Dawson Creek. The herd consists of Red and Black purebred Simmentals with a great selection of Fullbloods coming from Skywest Simmentals and a few other bred heifers bought from Virginia Ranch and Anchor D. We strive to improve our genetics to grow quality cattle that will perform at top levels. This year we have a great selection of both 2 year old and yearling purebred bulls that come from a low stress working environment, as well as hand feeding them their diets everyday. This diet includes dry alfalfa hay mix, oat silage, and oats with a 24% protein pellet which includes minerals that was specially made by Bullseye feed. We keep in mind that feeding the proper diet will help these bulls with their longevity while making them able to perform and sire calves in your herd for years to come. We always welcome new/pervious buyers to the farm to check out the operation especially with our up and coming Fullblood calf crop.

Here is a heifer that is hard to part with going back many generations to our legendary Reba Cow, and her momma (my ultimate favorite brood cow) 1N. The strongest maternal bloodlines are hardwired in Kali, and I think she has the potential to build a herd around. What a pretty Red blaze girl right here. I struggle letting go of these types of females, as this is the result of the recipe, we have had so much success with.
