Plastic Truth is a utility iPhone app that provides plastic safety information to users who are concerned about their health with plastic and want to know how to choose safe plastic products. Unlike other plastic recycling code and scan apps , Plastic Truth gives you a quick and easy way to find out how safe the plastic product is to use.

COMPETITORS PLASTIC ANALYZER

Plastic Analyzer is an iPhone app about plastic recycling codes. This app gives users information about what recycling codes are. It helps users know the quality of the plastic they are using on a daily basis. Strengths: • Easy to use. User-friendly. • Clear information about recycling codes. Simple and clean visual design. Weaknesses: • No safety information in each recycling code. 3

Good Plastic Bad Plastic is an iPhone app which have information about plastic recycling codes and if these plastic are safe to use or not. Also, users can get tips about how to use plastic products safely. Strengths: • Easy to use. User-friendly. • Clean and simply visual design. • Has information about where you can buy the product. • Has product reviews form other users. Weaknesses: • No information about plastic safety. • Not enough information about the product. • No browse function. Can’t browse products. 8

Consmr Reviews is an iPhone app which allows users to scan and browse thousands of everyday products and check ratings and reviews to help the users make better choices. Users can search , browse, or scan barcode to see product reviews and alternatives. Strengths: • Easy to use. User-friendly. • Has information about where you can buy the product. • Has product reviews form other users. • Has product reviews from global and experts. Weaknesses: • No information about plastic safety. • Visual design is too complex. • Not enough information about the product. 9

GoodGuide is an iPhone app from which users can quickly find out whether products are safe, healthy, green, and socially responsible while shopping. Users can scan barcodes and search and browse products easily. The rating system helps users shop their values. Strengths: • Easy to use. User-friendly. • Has enough information about the plastic. • Filter function helps users find the products they want. • Has clear rating system to help users shop. Weaknesses: • No information about plastic safety. • No information about where you can buy the product. • Users need to log-in in order to use some functions. 10

COMPETITORS - CONCLUSIONS • For plastic recycling codes app, these apps explain what recycling codes are. However, they don’t have enough safety information about plastic. You don’t know the plastic you want to buy is safe or not and you have to find the recycling codes on products by yourself. With Plastic Truth, You just need to scan the barcodes of the product to get its safety information. • For scanning apps, which allow you to scan products to get detail information and reviews, however, they don’t provide plastic safety information when you scan a product. With Plastic Truth, you can not only get product’s detail information, you can also get safety information, find alternatives with less plastic and know where to buy them.

USER SURVEY - CONCLUSION • People know what plastic recycling cdoes are, but they are not very familiar with these codes and don’t know if some of them are toxic or not. People don’t have enough knowledge of plastic recycling codes. • People know where to find codes on plastic products, but they usually don’t check them before they use products. People are not concerned enough about plastic products’ safety. • People know plastic are harmful to their bodies, but they don’t know which codes are bad. People don’t know which plastic products they should avoid using. • If people can buy products with less or no plastic, they wil buy them instead. People want to find products using less plastic. • People would like to use Plastic Truth to get plastic products’ safety information.
