A colourful and caring gure in the Phuket yachting scene left us recently, we look back at his work with the schooner Seraph.

The NEW i7700 actuator contains both the shift and throttle actuator within one compact housing and are not only powerful enough to manage the shift and throttle functions on the most extreme applications, they are also exceedingly responsive and robust. Phuket-built Wow captures St Maarten’s Heineken Regatta Photo by Tim Wright
After sailing halfway around the world, the Stealth 14GT Wow has recently won the St Maarten’s Heineken Regatta in the Caribbean. With a small but competitive fleet of multihulls and winds from 5 to 20 knots it was a picture-perfect regatta held in true paradise. Wow fended off the very quick Seacart 30 Mortica shipped all the way from Australia for this year’s run of Caribbean regattas. The well-sailed Mortica has been the boat to beat for the last few years in most regattas along the East coast of Australia but had to settle for 2nd place in this one. Wow was designed by Alan Carwardine, partnered with Roger Diggelmann, who manage the Phuket-based boat yard Asia Catamarans, builders of the Stealth range of cats. Owners David Liddell and Helen Rudd had the boat built to do what they always dreamed of doing – fast cruising around the world with the intent of circumnavigating while doing as many races and regattas along the way. The boat left Phuket in 2016, sailed across the Indian Ocean and into Cape Town. Now after crossing the Atlantic they are based in the Caribbean before continuing on thru the Panama and across the Pacific at some stage in the future.

Compass Fresh Compass Fresh began in 2012 as a provisioning company exclusively to supply superyachts in and around Indonesia. Compass has supplied food for Bill Gates, Sheikh Mansour, Abramovich and many others on board their private yachts with high levels of acclaim and success. Compass differs to any other food company due to a purchase-to-order business model which guarantees freshness and high yields which its superyacht clients demand. Compass receives the orders, purchases, packs, and ships out (normally by air cargo) to destinations as remote as Sorong, Ambon and Maumere. All ground logistics, permits and cargo delivery are handled by Compass from trucks to speedboats and helicopters for delivery. In 2015, realizing that the purchase-to-order business model is superior to the supermarket model of ready stock, Compass launched Compass Fresh, one of Bali and Indonesia’s first online supermarkets specializing in home delivery. It quickly became the biggest in Bali and is looking to continue to expand the concept throughout Indonesia. Compass Fresh developed its own App to create an easy platform for ordering. The app is available for free in iStore and Google Play. It is far superior to any others currently in Indonesia.

At the same time Compass also developed proprietary software systems for managing the administration and warehouse operations in a smooth and streamlined way. Over the last few years, Compass was able to expand its offshore reach to local charter boats such as Amanikan, Amandira, Seven Seas, Dewi Nusantara, Alila Purnama and others. Compass also secured the exclusive supply to Amanwana in Moyo due to its superior product freshness. This gives it a constant flow of orders and product through its system and increased sales volumes. Compass Fresh also has exclusive distribution for Jakarta-based healthy snacks Mia Chia and has placed it in Frestive Supermarkets, Bali Deli, Ayana Resort and many other outlets around Bali and Eastern Indonesia. Compass Fresh set up and owns Mama Mia Fresh Pasta, which has had success in home delivery and wholesale all around Bali. In 2018, Compass Fresh signed an agreement with a 25-hectare hydroponic farm in North Bali to brand, sell and distribute its own range of products on their behalf under the brand name Fresh Farm. This product is already distributed to Aerowisata, Papaya, Ayana, Nihiwatu and a growing list of top buyers.

Tom Howard sadly passed away in early April: so much of Tom's life over the past two decades was spent restoring and maintaining the schooner Seraph, which he sold a couple years back. The following was taken from a story SEA Yachting published about the restoration of the boat some time back. A favourite character in the Phuket yachting scene, Tom used to hold court at Jimmy’s Lighthouse regaling people with his stories and adventures.

If you’ve been around Phuket for any length of time, it’s hard not to have heard of, or seen, the 112-year-old schooner Seraph. And this remarkable lady has quite a story to tell from her infancy as a Danish fishing boat to her being running aground in the Similan Islands in 1991. Seraph is the shortened version of Seraphim – one of the Archangels who protected God in Biblical lore. A six-winged angel, the Seraph sat at God’s right hand. His upper pair of wings covered his eyes (he may not look at his Master), the middle pair were for aeronautic purposes with the lower pair to cover his private parts. SY Seraph sails with a full complement of six sails/wings. Seraph was built in Denmark, and launched from a shipyard outside Copenhagen in 1906, as a ketch-rigged fishing vessel with no engine. She was as a “buy boat”, meaning she would go out to the fishing trawlers to buy their catch and then sell it at market. She had a wet hull - plugs in her side let the North Sea in keep the fish fresh. In the early 20s, she was fitted with an engine; in a fishing town in northern Denmark She fished the North Sea for 70 years, and then in the late 1970s, she was bought by a Dutch couple, who took her to Holland, and converted her into a liveaboard schooner, with a schooner rig. She sailed the Med and the Indian Ocean before ending up in Phuket in the late 80s. On New Year’s Eve 1991, while Seraph was moored off of Island 1 in the Similans, a squall hit, and the ship dragged anchor, as she headed towards a reef. The captain tried to pull off, but the steering broke, he lost reverse gear, and he couldn’t go backwards, moving forwards instead, landing Seraph on a reef. The skipper was inexperienced and Seraph should never have been moored in that location in the first place. Seraph’s insurance company wrote it off, and Mark Horwood bought if for a song, taking his dive company up to retrieve her along with caulkers to patch her up (the filled hr vessel with plastic bottles full of air to help raise her). Mark, who had a long love with classic schooners himself, took her down to Phuket to begin her long relationship with the Ratanachai Shipyard. Khun Pong, the senior woodworker at Ratanachai, was an apprentice when Mark first brought Seraph in, and to this day, he will drop everything else he’s doing when Serapharrives in the yard and won’t let anyone else oversee her repair. Seraph was originally made out of oak frame and oak planking but oak is not a good warm water wood, and as it has deteriorated, it’s been replaced with takean tong, which is much better because termites and worms don’t like it. Mark recovered, restored and re-rigged Seraph in her current configuration – a gaff-rigged schooner. He used her as liveaboard dive boat for over a decade, when diving was still a sedate sport in these parts, taking divers on gentle cruises in the Andaman and up to the Similan Islands, ironically where Mark salvaged her. When the market changed, and people became focused on the frequency of dives, Mark decided to sell her to Tom in March 2002, who had moved to Phuket following his retirement from the IT business in the UK. Tim McMahon, was the captain at the time, and she was refitted at Ratanachai from May-July of that year, then set sail for Pattaya, where she was leased to Gulf Charters for three years. She arrived in Ocean Marina in September of 2002.

Tom himself hails from Harpenden, a small town 25 miles north of London - nowhere near the sea at all. His father was in the Royal Navy during WWII as a submariner, where he developed his love for the sea. When Tom was about 7, his dad, after an encounter at a public house in London, conspired to buy a 45ft 1911 North Sea fishing boat - much to his mother’s annoyance - she got seasick in the bath. The boat took three years to repair, and Tom had one holiday on it, but unfortunately his dad died and the family was forced to sell the boat. So, you see, Tom puts his love for Seraph down to a genetic weakness. Tom actually bought his first boat, a small 30ft Beneteau named Bonne Coeur, with a friend in 1985. When the friend married, the pair sold the boat. “Marriage, new families and new boats don’t go particularly well together,” he recalls. Tom started his professional career in sales and then formed a computer hardware and software company, developing an e-commerce distribution system that unfortunately faltered with the dot.com crash. So, he decided to retire to Phuket in 2002 (He had been coming here on holiday since 1994 to compete in the King’s Cup). Tom brought Seraph back to Phuket in May of 2005, after she had fallen into disrepair and became termite-infected. Tom then hired Aussie Tony Knight as skipper and decided to keep the boat in Phuket. There was a huge refit at Ratanachai, which included a wrapping and gassing. She took a break in her refit and appeared as a Committee Boat in the first Phuket Raceweek in July (Tom created a trophy for the Seraph Classic Class in that regatta carved from 500-year old wood from Seraph’s rudder). Seraph then went back into Ratanachai to complete her overhaul, emerging anew in September. She since appeared as a committee boat for the Bay and King’s Cup regattas and she also raced in the class she sponsored at Phuket Raceweek – problem being, stemming back to her days as a wet hull fishing vessel, she’s designed to sail with a lot of weight.
(In 2013, Tom also restored a 63-foot motor yacht constructed by the British Royal Air Force to act as a rescue and backup ship for the RAF, renaming it Marie G after his beloved mother.)

Sea Keeping tests have also been conducted on a self-propelled scale model of the hull. The result is an innovative, low drag, canoe-shaped body capable of planing at high speed or semi-displacement cruising when in low fuel consumption mode. The Sirena Yachts 64 was the first model of the line to be launched and made its world debut at Boot Dusseldorf in 2017. The interior and exterior living spaces provide generous volume normally seen on much larger vessels for serious world family cruising in great comfort. From the earliest design stages, the main concept of the interior was about comfort and light. Large glass windows provide a good view of the sea and let in plenty of natural light. Interior style is defined by a skilful use of white, carefully mixed with a touch of dark colour defining frames and panels. Oak combined with wenge woods and a light and soft moquette carpet on the floors amplifies space and underlines the design.
The fully enclosed galley and dining table are located midships with the lounge aft opening onto the large cockpit with dining table. On the foredeck there is more room for dining at the convertible table plus the option for a Jacuzzi below the sun lounger. The flybridge is enormous with dining and lounging areas and wet bar. The aft end of the flybridge has enough room for sun loungers or can be fitted with a crane. The hull design was developed in depth, including extensive tank testing at the Wolfson facility in Southampton. The result is a pleasant sea kindly low drag canoe body capable of planning at high speed or cruising in semi displacement, low fuel consumption mode. The hull stability is well matched to the needs of the gyroscopic stabilisers to ensure cruising or anchoring in great comfort. Powered by Caterpillar engines with a choice of 850 or 1,000 horsepower the boat can reach a top speed 26 or 28 knots and cruise at 10 knots for over 1,200 miles with 10% reserve fuel. The standard layout is three guest cabins and four heads with the option for a 4th guest cabin. There is also an option for a two-berth crew cabin with head and separate access through a door from the submersible platform.

near the stern is perfect for setting the table in the cockpit thanks to the complete absence of steps, creating a single spacious area for both indoor and outdoor living. With the huge lateral windows running full length without interruption and another window on the cabin-top, an impressive amount of natural light permeates the interiors, bringing out the best of the contrasting colours of the oak and wenge woods. The Sirena 58 is available in a two or three cabin interior layout. The two-cabin layout has significant interior volumes, with a 16 square metre full beam midships cabin and an almost 20 square metre forward master cabin. The forward cabin has direct access to the large living area on the foredeck, a design solution usually only found on much larger yachts. The Sirena 58 is also available in two different three cabin versions. Retaining the forward master cabin, the midships cabin can be divided into two cabins, all with en suite heads. Alternately the midships cabin becomes the master and the fore cabin is reduced in size with no access to the foredeck and a twin cabin is added between the two larger ones and all cabins are en suite. Details of the new Sirena Yachts 85 Raised Pilot House were announced at the 2018 Miami Yacht Show. The new flagship of the Sirena Yachts fleet is already under construction although with delivery expected in 2019. Once again, the exterior design will be by Germån Frers Naval Architecture while Cor D Rover has been chosen for the interior. The Sirena 85 builds on the success of the yard’s current flagship, the Sirena 64. The hull characteristics and design are an evolution

of her smaller sister with low resistance and a sea kindly hull that performs efficiently and with a minimum of fuel consumption through all speed ranges. Powered by twin 1,400hp MAN V12 engines the boat will have a top speed of 25 knots and a range in excess of 2,500 nautical miles when cruising at ten knots. The interior will be offered in either a four or five-cabin layout, with the option for a main deck master suite with a private fold-out balcony direct access and direct access to the foredeck infinity pool. Other key features on board the Sirena 85 include a transom tender garage, which can be transformed into a beach club, and dining space for all ten guests on the flybridge under the shade of a hardtop Bimini. Lead-in More than 250 sailors representing 21 nationalities signed-up for the iconic Bay Regatta held 31st January to 4th February, 2018 in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi provinces. A four-day travelling regatta around Phang Nga Bay that stopped at a different anchorage each evening for a party under-the-stars, The Bay Regatta is famous for visiting some of the region’s best beachfront spots. Often referred to as the “fun regatta” and the “world's most scenic regatta”, it is a regatta like no other and one that attracts the serious and less serious racers. Having raced around the karts of Phang Nga and Krabi sailors are unanimous in their praise; “stunning”, “spectacular”, “there's no other regatta like it” are just some of the comments received from last year’s participants. “The Bay Regatta’s route is unique. While most regattas head to open water, we race around the islands and why wouldn’t you when you have the spectacular scenery of Phang Nga Bay on your doorstep?”, said Ms. Kae Wattana, Managing Director of organisers Regattas Asia. The fleet of more than 30 boats was split into six classes and despite the beauty of the sailing route, the on-water competition was high. In the Racing class crews from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Russia challenged for the title. Last year's winner Megazip was back to defend her crown and reignited her rivalry with the well-prepared and campaigned Beneteau First 44.7 Fujin. However, the Hong Kong-registered Red Rum and Vitalii Plaksin’s Farr One Ton, Uminoko, who placed first in the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta 2017 Cruising class, would challenge for the title as well. A strong line-up of locally-based cruisers was split into Cruising A and Cruising B classes, and all stood a good chance to win. Baby Tonga returned and is looking to improve on their second-place last year while Fargo Express (second in IRC 2 at the 2017 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta) is always dangerous. In the Bareboat Charter class, which saw a 40% growth in entries, crews looked forward to some friendly competition in one of the best cruising destinations the world has to offer. The 10-strong multihull fleet was split into two class – Multihull Racing and Multihull Cruising. Last year's Multihull Racing winner Twin Sharks was back to defend their title and under the experienced leadership of skipper John Newnham are always difficult to beat. The Stealths – Asia Catamarans Hurricane, Phantom V and Twister 2 – tend to not to follow script and will race hard like usual, as will the smaller multis in the class – Bladerunner 9, off-line and Fugazi. In the Multihull Cruising class, Rick Fielding’s Mojo hoped to make it two wins in a row and will go head-to-head with Raptor 2001, a regular on Thailand's sailing scene. “We have a mix of international and local crews, and sailors of more than 20 nationalities. We have added some new stopovers to the route this year, but the regatta's travelling nature remains unchanged and the 30-plus boats competing this year enjoyed four days of excellent racing in the best cruising grounds in the world,” added Ms. Wattana.

Now in its 21st year, The Bay Regatta continues to showcase the beauty of the Andaman — the islands, beaches and hidden coves – and combines this with a fun beachfront social programme. Wrap up On the fourth and final day of the Bay Regatta, Chang Race Day, PRO and race organizer Simon James continued the regatta’s two-start format as all the monohulls crossed the start line together followed by all the multihulls. Another great sailing day greeted the participants as they sailed a short loop around some of the islands off the coast off of Krabi’s Railay Beach, before heading out for a straight shot back to the southern end of Koh Yao Yai with the racing boats doing a slightly longer course than the cruisers. After all the boats crossed the finish, they headed back to Phuket, where they celebrated the final prize giving and dinner at Kan Eang 2 restaurant, overlooking Chalong Bay. The four-boat Racing Class was already decided before the final race as Sergey Khamstov’s Megazip won the title for the second-straight year earning three firsts and a second-place for a five-point score over the four-day event (last year, the boat’s skipper was Aleksandr Trofimenko). Steve Manning’s Red Rum took second spot, with eleven points. Vi-
talii Plaksin’s Uminoko and Gary Baguley’s Fujin were next, tied at 12 points apiece, but Uminoko took third as a result of winning the class on day one. In Cruising A class, Niels Degenkolw and his all women’s’ team took first in every race except when they finished second on day three, thereby keeping’s Niels invincibility streak alive, as he won his class in the Bay Regatta for the umpteenth time. Amazing, indeed, as the Dane is coming off recent reconstructive knee surgery on both knees at Phuket’s Vachira Hospital and sitting in Phoenix for a four-day regatta can’t be easy. Max Palleschi’s Prime Factor took send overall with Stanislav Pechenkin’s Russian crew Southern Breeze 3 came in third. Cruising B was won by all the Thai-crew of Marigold, skippered by Ket Mangklaseranee. They turned three first-place finishes into a convincing overall lead. Mig Wehrle’s Aqua came in second overall but had the regatta’s cutest entrant-Mig’s three-month old son Lucas on board. Paul Baker’s Isabella, Greg Brennan’s Toot Yai (Big Butt), and Woodrow Christensen’s

Linda finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. The Bareboat Class ended up going to George Brown’s Kinnon as Denis Aksenov’s Venture was forced to “retire” on the final race due to use of an improper sail. Russell Waddy’s Allsail Kingsman and Andrew McDermott’s Fei Jian were third and fourth overall in this division. Fugazi was the star of the show in racing multis, winning line honours in all four races – but when their handicap was applied that was only good for fourth overall. John Newnham’s Twin Sharks tight-knit team of Alfie Rowson, Jason Corall (flew in from New York), Tam Keawwantha (flew in from Ireland), took first overall in this ten-boat class, Alan Cawardine’s Asia Catamarans Hurricane came second
and George Eddings Blue Nose was third. Multihull cruising was a two-boat affair and Robert Hossack’s Raptor 2001 whupped Rick Fielding’s Mojo in all four races. Simon James did a tremendous job as PRO setting the courses, manning the starts and keeping things in order. Kae Wattana and her Regattas Asia team made everyone happy on shore, providing plenty of good food and drink and good entertainment. Sean Getchell’s Epic Charters stepped up and provided a superb committee boat, Hakuna Matata, and Captain Brent McInnis did great work steering the photographer’s rib. A big shot out to Simon’s team on the water—Susie, Cathy, Chandran & Eddie—as always, made sure all the starts and finishes were correctly posted and recorded.

The growing destination for the world’s high-spending yachting community, Phuket hosted thousands of nautical lifestyle enthusiasts, including potential buyers and charterers who were invited to climb aboard and experience an impressive display of watercraft featured in the show. Yachts, superyachts, catamarans, sailboats, sports-fishers, dinghies, tenders, water sport boats and day cruisers, were all available to try out in addition to exclusive activities and alluring social events. The Thailand Yacht Show (TYS), presented by Verventia Pte Ltd, organizers of the Singapore Yacht Show, and sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism & Sports, is fast becoming an event of

The stellar line-up at this year’s show included some of the world’s biggest and best superyachts, including the 90m Cassens-Werft-built Lauren L, the biggest yacht ever to be exhibited at any show in Asia, presented by Titan Fleet Management, alongside Feadship’s 60m motor yacht M/Y Paraffin which was presented by Fraser Yachts. For those looking for an exquisite and timeless yacht, this is one of the most luxurious yachts available for charter or sale on the market. She can accommodate 12 guests in six staterooms and has ample interior and exterior space for relaxing and entertaining. Her wine cellar is as enviable as is the range of toys and tenders on board. The Ferretti Group’s Custom Line 47m M/Y Happy Days was also available for private viewings with Lee Marine. Set up for adventure chartering, guests have access to stand-up paddle boards, dive equipment, and wakeboard among other activities. For those looking to trial a catamaran

at sea and get a feeling for the enormous space and stability they provide, the ever-popular HYPE hosted a series of morning cruises around Phang Nga Bay and some of its iconic limestone islands. Guests were able to venture out and enjoy some swimming and snorkelling before the show opened.
YACHT TOYS AND LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS
The Thailand Yacht Show offers something for everyone and every budget from superyachts and charter holidays to all other aspects of the leisure marine lifestyle. The latest marine toys and water sports such as stand up paddle boarding by Sea-Doo, and the latest cool water craze, the Schiller water bike, were all available for trials at the open Demonstration Platform. Visitors could chill while floating on bean bags from Soo Santai or attend live demonstrations and be amazed by professionals showing JetBlade and JetSurf equipment.
LIFESTYLE DESTINATION
Complementing the Show was a glamorous social calendar which includes electric private parties on board superyachts, a floating VIP Lounge, supercar parades and VIP morning and dinner cruises. Visitors started the day enjoying panoramic ocean views by cruising around the Bay’s paradisiacal islands on board the luxury catamaran HYPE, which departed
every morning from the marina to offer the perfect initiation to yachting in Thailand. During the day, those considering hiring or purchasing a yacht or a boat or any of the latest water toys were able to fully appreciate the products and enjoy Thai hospitality, as well as experiencing the fun of yachting, by joining scheduled cruises or sea-trials on board selected yachts and boats on display. Guests enjoyed sumptuous food and wine offered throughout the day on and off the water. Thai cooking lessons, street food vendors, night markets, sommelier-led wine tastings and chef demonstrations completed the experience. The youngest members of the family were able to enjoy a day out at the Show at the TYS Kids Club, where dedicated activities were offered just for them whilst their parents discover the best of the yachting world. To end each day the best way, visitors could board the lavish catamaran HYPE to party till late or head to Sunbrella’s D'Deck Bar to groove to live DJs over sunset cocktails. Asia’s biggest boat show presented an impressive line-up of the world’s most prestigious superyachts and boating brands, along with a glamorous social calendar.

ome of the world’s most impressive yachts and superyachts were docked at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove for the eighth edition of the Singapore Yacht Show, which took place from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th April. The region’s business hub for luxury yachting, Singapore hosted the best-known and most prestigious brands and dealers as well as thousands of leisure marine lifestyle enthusiasts – all of them potential buyers and charterers. Nearly half the approximate 18,000 visitors fly in from around the region to view the biggest display of boats and yachts in Asia, and enjoy a social calendar replete with glamorous parties, networking events and high-end entertainment. For the eighth year in a row, the calibre of the local industry players and leading in-
ternational brands showcasing their products at SYS, continues to reinforce Singapore’s position as the “Monaco of the East”. Exhibitors include Feadship, Lurssen, Fincantieri, Benetti, Gulf Craft, Amels, Heesen, Westport, Burgess, Camper & Nicholsons, Y.CO, Princess Yachts, Ferretti Group, Azimut, Boat Lagoon Yachting, Simpson Marine, Beneteau, Hong Seh Marine, Multihull Solutions, Leopard, Reel Torque, Sunreef, Lee Marine, SG Boating, ProMarine, Derani Yachts and newcomer to the region, Nautical Habitat… to name just a few! On top of the amazing line-up of yachts and exhibiting brands, SYS 2018 offered a non-stop social calendar and a whole host of activities for everyone. Visitors of all ages enjoyed a curated schedule of live demonstrations, trials, luxury retail, giveaways, wellness workshops and yacht cruises.

The art of luxury living was epitomized by the stellar line-up at SYS 2018. Yachts and superyachts entirely new to the market in Asia and the world, were presented by some of the most respected brokers and builders, including Granocean 80 by Asian custom yacht design & build company Granocean, which made its global debut. Simpson Marine, probably Asia’s bestknown yacht dealer, present at every edition of SYS since the very beginning, took the lead with the presentation of the Beneteau Oceanis 51.1 – the first of a new generation, featuring taut lines, a new stepped hull and a stylish deck plan. They also displayed the Beneteau Grand Tourismo 46 – a stylish and harmoniously designed boat with a bold sporty look featuring Air Step® technology; and the Lagoon 50 – an elegant 15-metre catamaran with a new visual identity inspired in the 50s style and featuring unparalleled accommodation possibilities. Another of Asia’s largest importers and distributors of luxury yachts, Boat Lagoon Yachting returned once again to the SYS to announce the debut of Princess 30M – the latest addition to the M Class range and one of the largest vessels on display, stretching the boundaries in hydro-dynamic design, space and comfort. Also in their line-up was the Princess 55 – featuring a vast flybridge boasting L-shaped seating which converts to a sunbed, twin helm seats, a wet-bar and a further U-shaped seating area, leaving great space to enjoy with family and friends. Hong Seh Marine presented the new
Riva Perseo 76 by the Ferretti Group – a striking yacht with its sporty features and elegance, further enhanced by its colour shades; and Ferretti 780, part of the Tai He Ban collection – a special new range with design customization aimed specifically at the Asian market. Italian yacht builder Azimut Yachts introduced Grande 27 Metri in Asia for the first time. Recently crowned winner of the 2017 World Yachts Trophies’ “Most Achieved” Trophy in the 80’ to 125’ category, it features the use of carbon fibre, a construction choice that allows volumes and surfaces to be increased in size while keeping the same weight maintaining excellent levels of dynamic stability. The Australian and Thai company Multihull Solutions unveiled the French-built Fountain Pajot MY 44 – a spacious brand-new motor catamaran powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 350 pod drives delivering exceptional handling over a 2000-nautical mile range. This motor catamaran has a combined living and accommodation space of over 50sqm, more than most inner-city apartments. Luxury catamaran manufacturer Sunreef debuted the Sunreef Open 40 in Asia – a dynamic, sporty day catamaran with a focus on fast cruising and lifestyle. Naturally balanced, this yacht doesn’t require stabilizing systems and provides a fast and safe navigation experience, a potential that this model explores to the fullest. Joining this year’s Asian premieres was also Absolute 58 Fly – the perfect union between ergonomics and technology, ensuring low consumption, manoeuvrability, silent movement and reliability; and Maritimo 51 – a genuine long-range luxury motor yacht for those looking for space, comfort and power.

La Familia, the stunning 55-metre yacht launched by Amels in 2015, is part of a limited-edition line. This beautiful su peryacht boasts a helipad on her topmost deck, an extravagant owner’s suite, a main saloon featuring folding balconies and an exceptionally practical beach club on her stern for when the water is just too inviting. Aquamarina, a living embodiment of Italian design, was launched in 2006 by ISA. This great-looking private yacht will be on display for the first time ever at a boat show. Her sleek exterior, finished in an aquamarine pearlescent paint belies a rich and traditional interior, reminiscent of a renaissance Italian villa. Lady Azul, a 40-metre yacht built by Heesen Yachts, was launched in 2001, then exten sively refitted in 2015. Accommodating 10 guests in five suites, the owner’s suite in the bow is forward-facing and flooded with light from expansive windows. Designed to enjoy destinations to the full, there is extensive storage for water sports equipment, tenders, dive equipment and more.

Happy Days, a stunning 34-metre yacht launched in 2013 by the Ferretti Group as part of their Custom Line range. It was spe cifically built for an Asia-based clientele. Her interior is bold and modern epitomizing Italian craftsmanship.
YACHT TOYS AND LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS Gadgets are an essential addition to any superyacht charter holiday, and the SYS presented an impressive array of the latest yacht accessories for nautical enthusiasts. Located in the centre of the marina display, the Floating Leisure Hub celebrated the best in boating and water sports. Visitors were able to try out the latest marine equipment, sample stand-up paddle boards, fishing equipment, kayaks and more or watch the professionals demonstrate the jet surf, fly board and wake boards.
EVENTS AND SOCIAL CALENDAR Complementing the show was a glamorous social calendar, which included electric cocktail parties on board superyachts, a floating Lounge bar, a Boardwalk Retail Village, supercar parades, wine and gin festivals, as well as wellness and creative workshops for kids. The fun continued at night with glamourous VIP dinners, chic yacht parties and unique networking events.

SENTOSA BALL AND SILENT AUCTION The celebratory “All That Glitters” Sentosa Ball, opened the social proceedings. Held in the Grand Ballroom of the W Singapore at Sentosa on Thursday 12 April, this was a fun and glamourous evening bringing together the world’s leading yachting personalities, Asia’s most influential people, yacht owners, and industry captains in an extravagantly stylish setting. A silent auction was held during the Sentosa Ball with proceeds going to the Biosphere Foundation.
