projects As an aspiring landscape architect, I am driven by a passion for equitable and compassionate design. My experiences visiting my family abroad, who are mostly immigrants, have exposed me to the difficulties marginalized communities face in tropical coastal cities. Through design, I aim to create spaces that not only provide safety and security, but also serve

Our team has analyzed potential long-term challenges and stressors affecting the site and Athens in 2042. We aim to create a sustainable design that resolves issues such as stormwater management and

are widespread and require a comprehensive approach.
conventional design
water clears d green infrast ue to ructur e
A conventional greenspace design involves the placement of isolated spaces within a grid-like pattern, often along blocks or roads in urban areas. This approach results in a fragmented distribution of green areas within the built environment.
courtyard design bicycles for exercise and aerate water
While a courtyard design, can provide a private and secluded environment, it also limits public access to the greenspace. This type of design results in a segregated green space that is not readily available for community use
opposite design In order to foster a greener future for Athens, it is crucial to design greenspaces in a way that invites people in. One effective approach is to place greenspaces along the perimeter. This type of design not only increases the amount of green space available but also promotes community use.

The exterior greenspace surrounding the site serves as our passive space, designed to accommodate pedestrian and bicycle pathways. Our team has focused on two main areas: the zen garden and sponge park. The zen garden features open spaces, rocks for leisure, and walking paths for visitors. Meanwhile, the sponge park includes walking paths surrounding the ponds, providing both leisure and efficient stormwater management.

The central active space was strategically located to best serve the shoppers and residents of the site. Key features include a plaza for art installations and easy movement between buildings. Other areas of interest include the mixed-use plaza and playground, separated by grassy fields that can also serve as a sound block for the single-family housing unit. Additionally, the topography of these fields allows for flooding in case of extreme weather events.

The sponge parks serve as one of the stormwater management features on the site, located in the low point to allow for water to be drained there. The ponds are designed with bridges to enhance their aesthetic value and serve as a viewpoint for visitors rather than a nuisance.

When creating planting designs, it is important to take into account the different seasons. By planting design through the seasons utilizing trees, the hard edges of the building can be softened to match the arches around the doors and windows. In contrast to designing for a larger group, designing for a single person allows for more attention to detail in the space. I created a space for my aunt. The yard was designed to be a versatile area that could be used as

The arrangement and initial scattering of paths is designed to reflect the flow of large gatherings. At first, guests tend to mingle in larger groups. As the event progresses, some people may move to smaller, more private conversations. The path system accommodates both types of movement, allowing for a natural and intuitive flow throughout the space. masterplan

of concern in Athens, GA. From there, I focused on one particular area that showed the most concerning characteristics and further analyzed it for

EAST ATHENS COMMUNITY CENTER ANALYSIS
KEY
There is no direct connection between Walker Park and Dudley Park, which creates a challenge for pedestrians and bicyclists. However, the implementation of a greenway corridor could potentially provide a solution by providing a safe and accessible pathway for these groups to travel between the parks while avoiding the road entirely.

areas of opportunities
The Iron Triangle is situated within this triangular region. Though there has been some progress in the area, it is crucial to prioritize designing a pedestrian-friendly and well-planned space for the public housing projects. It’s also important to keep in mind and implement design guidelines and policies to prevent gentrification.

The purpose of this view is to highlight the serene ambiance of the traditional Thai massage area. I deliberately played with lighting to emphasize the brightness and to showcase how this space offers a comfortable shade. The view also gives a glimpse of the ocean.
This eye-level view of the pool area highlights the key features of the site, including the individual pool gazebos and the massage area, which surround the pool and create an intimate atmosphere.
