LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Together, we created more than 5,000 jobs in our city. Together, we worked to connect everyone in our community with an opportunity to succeed. Together, we advocated for and helped pass a comprehensive Human Rights Ordinance to protect everyone in our community from discrimination. Together, we took critical steps to redeveloping Downtown Jacksonville. Together, we made significant progress and it’s because of our 3,000 members who invest in making Jacksonville a better place. You’ll see the accomplishments over the following pages. I thank each and every one of you for your time and contributions this year. Together, we will strive to reach even greater heights in 2018. The Chamber hosts an annual trip of Downtown leaders and advocates to visit another city to talk about what worked and what didn’t in its Downtown. In 2017, the group visited Cleveland to gain insight on waterfront activation, placemaking and to see firsthand how Cleveland transformed its Downtown into a bustling hub of restaurants, office buildings, and Downtown living. In November, local leaders visited Toronto for the 37th annual Leadership Trip. Toronto has made massive improvements to its downtown in recent years with special emphasis on placemaking and residential development, and was chosen to give local leaders a behind-thescenes look at how it happened.
