Jonathan Key Key Kreative // Jayki Logo & Business Card Identity
2009/10 identity
take my existing logos, find what’s wrong and how it can be improved... It is immediate that the weakest identity is for my website ‘Key Kreative’ All my logos created in greyscale because it is versatile and colour can later be added on...
however... The lack of colour does not represent my image furthermore too much of my work is in BLACK & WHITE, safe yet sophisticated but boring.
Colour theory/Inspiration My favourite colour is green...however with the rise of industrial companies using green and an over saturated market of green ‘environment friendly’ branding I felt it best to simply go for the strongest colour
RED
A
my weakest logos/branding is for Key Kreative as it feels too industrial and mechanic. It felt like it was the sans-serif font and it was time for a change. Inspired from the delicate serifs, playing cards and a video game called ‘Kingdom Hearts’ I decided to find some references for inspiration.
serif
improvements include the softer edges and a more stylised approach whilst adding colour it is still versatile it can be changed to suit the context
What can be improved on the new logo
seems odd to think about what next when you just finished... however... There are already some obvious mistakes and elements that can be improved. Notably the curves haven’t been tweaked to perfection and the weight & width aren’t as smooth or consistent as they could be. However, due to the this project’s timespan I am limited with being rushed into decisions and my brand is not something I want to rush through... My branding/identity is always improving and evolving. Therefore the best is still to come.

my Thoughts There are many elements wrong with my 2010 business card All the mistakes I’ve previously made will only make my future cards better... First mistake: on the back I have tried to promote my branding name of ‘Jayki’ and I conciously chose not to use my full name. This is a rookie error as I realised not everyone would go to my website to find out more about me as I originally relied on the illustration on the back to draw my client’s curiousity. It is also all in black and white, something I’m trying to move away from... Also...my key logo is very subtle, something I originally thought my clients would appreciate but I’m not yet in a position where such things are noticed therefore my new card will spell my name and branding everywhere, this is not what I want but it’s the most effective. Once I have a more established brand I can go back to doing what I please.

new Business Card The new logo is everywhere, on the front & back The border is using the red elements of the key The key is used as a pattern in the background and an ornament. Overall I am happy with the new branding in this time frame, I’m really not satisfied with it though and I don’t think the classy & formal look suits me. A new refresh will be done soon enough but even if I never use the new branding I always learn something even if that something is just how to do it quicker...
