LIFE

of Bridgette Yvonne Jernigan-Washington

Bridgette Yvonne Jernigan-Washington was born in Dallas, Texas on June 30, 1970 to Roy and Betty Brown. A strong passion for music and keen heart for ministry motivated her actions even at a young age. She began singing at the age of three and began playing the drums by the time she was six years old. Her family joyfully recalls her getting in trouble for witnessing and prophesying to her teachers and fellow classmates while in the first grade. Classic Bridgette! Bridgette attended South Oak Cliff High School and graduated in 1990. She also attended cosmetology school at MJ’s Beauty College and was a successful hairstylist in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. She grew up at Rejoicing Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. and was a faithful member until God called her to join other ministries. Having a sincere heart to help, Bridgette served and supported several ministries and mission-based outreaches locally and nationally. Upon her death, she was a member of The Potter’s House of Dallas and served on the worship team. Bridgette was a singer’s singer. Her professional music career started over twelve years ago with Carnell Murrell and NeWork Community Choir. Bridgette then began traveling full-time with God’s Property, the award winning group who received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Artist, NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video, Soul Train Music Award for Best Gospel Album, and the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album in 1998.

Bridgette had the great pleasure of singing with legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Lauryn Hill, and Mary-Mary, just to name a few. She was also a member of Myron Butler & Levi and had the pleasure of being featured as a lead vocalist on his freshman and sophomore albums. Her ministry and reach also extended overseas, performing several consecutive years in seasonal tours in London as a featured vocalist. In 2008, Bridgette Jernigan-Washington began a non-profit organization, Healing of the Hearts Inc., which focuses on uplifting and rebuilding women who were the victims domestic abuse. Since its inception, this organization has impacted many women, and will continue to uplift and heal hearts. Bridgette’s genuine personality was her signature attribute. She was known as a giver to the Kingdom of God. She understood the true gift of love and gave it unselfishly. She was well-respected and respected everyone equally. Bridgette truly believed that the Love of God covered a multitude of faults. She relentlessly supported and poured into many talented artists and musicians within the DFW area and across the country. On Sunday, December 22, 2013, she answered her ultimate call and joined the ranks of heaven’s choir. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, aunts and uncles. She leaves behind her mother Betty Brown, four sisters Victoria “Vickie” Lewis, Felicia Burns (Kevin), Vanna & Senora Linwood; two nieces Tiara & Chastni Lewis ; three nephews Trumaine Jernigan, Kenneth Pinkard,& Caston Boyd; seven great nephews and one great niece. As well as a host of other family members and close friends.
