God looked around his garden

My Granny “My lil Diva”

And found an empty space;

In my rose garden of memories

Then he looked down upon this earth

I see you standing there an angel

And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

And lifted you to rest;

Our world was blessed with Joyce Evelyn Underwood on March 11, 1933, in Henderson, Tennessee. She was the fourth child born to the union of Robert and Calora Pack.

Her mother, father, two brothers (Leroy & Robert, Jr.), four sons-in-law and granddaughter, Shayna, preceded her in death. Joyce confessed Christ at an early age in Tennessee and was still a faithful, committed member of the 87th Street Church of Christ, under the leadership of Brothers William and Eddie Jones. In 1970, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life Cleo Underwood. This union was a blessing to their children Cherell, Texas; Mae (Anthony), Minnesota; Sheryl, California; Cassandra, Illinois; Stephen, Illinois and Christopher, Illinois. Joyce was a hardworking, smart, intelligent, funny woman, who was completely dedicated to her family. She was a doting mother, and a nurturing grandmother/ great-grandmother. Her love and dedication for her children were the driving force behind her entrepreneurial spirit. She became the owner of Underwood Custom Drapery after being in the business for over 20 years. Joyce’s maternal nature was a blessing to all that were in her presence. She had several “play” children. She loved to travel and shop. She possessed a genuine love for entertaining, and was a phenomenal cook. She was just an overall jazzy lady. It was on August 12, 2012 that Joyce was called home. She leaves to cherish her memory six children (listed above); one sister: Olivia Croom, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren: LeAndre, Mazita (Kiba), Antonia, Marzel, Joycelyn (Jason), Johnna, Tareena, Antonio, Natashia, Eryn, Jocacia, Symone and Christopher Jr.; six great-grandchildren: Cecily, Kevonte, Kiana, LeAndrea, LeAndre Jr. and Aniya; two sister-in-laws; one cousin/playson: Jerry Smith and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
