Saturday, April 17, 2021 • 12:00 PM Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church 1121 Dr. M. R. Lemons Boulevard • East St. Louis, Illinois REVEREND CHARLES M. WILLIAMS, SR. — OFFICIANT

Mrs. Delores Mayetta Mason-Scott, affectionately known as Tootsie, was born June 1, 1943 to the union of Laura and Levi Talley in East Saint Louis, Illinois. Delores received her education in East Saint Louis School District 189: attending Washington Elementary School, Hughes-Quinn Junior High and graduating from Lincoln Senior High School in 1961. Tootsie was a passionate, professional and dignified business woman. She began her work life as a certified nursing assistant at Barnes Hospital, where she particularly enjoyed patient care. As always, she took great pride in her appearance and could be seen walking the halls in the sharpest, brightest and whitest uniform on the floor. She furthered her education by earning an Associates Degree from Mildred Louise’s Business College in East St. Louis, Illinois. Afterwards, she attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville but decided midstream to focus on her career when she gained employment at the Union Electric Company. For the next 39 years she would work in various professional capacities for the utilities provider until her retirement from Ameren in January of 2003. There were very few places that she could go without being recognized as the pretty, nice, well-dressed lady who gave everyone a break on their electric bill. Delores spent many years as a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. M. R. Lemons. Delores loved her family. In 1968, she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Marlon, whom she shared with her then-husband, Lester Mason. After 16 years, she welcomed her daughter, Lenzy, into the world with her husband of 36 years, Ronald Scott. Tootsie enjoyed spending time with her family and had a special love for her grandchildren and family gatherings.

Tootsie was an active and dedicated member of the Lincoln Senior High School Alumni Class of 1961 and even served as treasurer from 2000-2016. She loved traveling, fine dining, interior decorating, and fashion. It was not uncommon for her to frequently change the color schemes throughout her home. You would want to take care not to casually pick up a piece of fruit at her residence; it could just be an artificial part of the décor! Ever the fashion stylist, she was also known for calling her daughter, sisters or friends to inform them of what clothes they needed to buy from her favorite channels – The Home Shopping Network or QVC. But, if they didn’t, she would purchase the clothes for them because she just knew it was what they needed to wear. Giftgiving was definitely one of her love languages. When she loved you, she had no problem showing it by word and in deed. Her warm heart, signature style and gentle smile will truly be missed. She was predeceased by her parents and sisters: Mary Brooks and Mae Bush. After battling illness for quite a while, Delores quietly transitioned from labor to reward on April 3, 2021 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. Those who will forever cherish her memories are: her loving and devoted husband, Ronald Scott of East St. Louis, IL; son, Marlon Mason, Sr. of Cahokia, IL; daughter, Lenzy (Antoine) Scott-Watson of East St. Louis, IL; siblings, Castella Lockett of East St. Louis, IL; Levie (Lisa) Tallie of Belleville, IL; Rebecca (Matthew) Rupert of Omaha, NE; Betty (Archie) Reeves of Belleville, IL; Darlene (Russell) Helfer of East St. Louis, IL; five grandchildren, Marlon, Dionte, and Mariona Mason all of East St. Louis, IL; Antoine Jr. and Aniyah Watson of East St. Louis, IL; five great-grandchildren; mother in-law, Helen Scott; a lifelong friend, Josephine Rencher of Swansea, IL; The Lincoln Senior High School Alumni Class of 1961 and a host of family and friends.

Tributes God saw you getting tired, He did what He thought best; He put his arms around you, And said, “Come and Rest”. He opened up His golden gates, On that heartbreaking day; And with His arms around you, You gently slipped away; It broke out hearts to lose you, You didn’t go alone; A part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You’ll always be in our hearts. — Your Loving Family

Every time I smile, Every time I sigh, I think of your face, And a tear escapes my eye. You were my world, My inspiration and my heart, But when you left me, I thought I would fall apart. You were my best friend, My one true confidant, And that's not all you were. You were also my mom. I didn't want to live without you, But you would have wanted me to, And if there's anyone I want to make happy, That anyone is you. I would give anything to have you back, But I know now that it was meant to be, For you are still watching from up there, And I know you're watching me. I'll continue to make you proud, Mom. I'm going to fulfill your wish. You're going to see me and smile. That's a daughter's promise. — Lenzy Scott-Watson
