SEAHOLM INTAKE:INVITE : ENERGIZE : CONNECT
INVITE:
ENERGIZE:
CONNECT:
Emphasizing both visual and physical accessibility, the topography, trails, shade trees, bridges, and public art pieces which define the park experience encourage interaction, communication, and engagement. With prominent pedestrian and bicycle connections to the north, boating and paddle boarding docks on the south, and hiking and biking ribbons of concrete coursing through and above the building, the Seaholm Intake Facility design creates an enticing invitation for the Austin community--its ribbons unfurled around a beacon on the Lake.
A figurative heart on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake, the Seaholm Intake Facility design weaves pedestrian and bicycle arteries through and around the building’s concrete forms. Featuring trails, bridges, overlooks, boat docks, and plazas, all intertwined with colonnades and multiple levels of the historic structure, this design proposal reenergizes the now-dormant shell – this time with human energy instead of with hydro- and electric energy.
The hike and bike trail, Capitol grounds, University of Texas campus, South Congress Avenue, Auditorium Shores, and Zilker Park all highlight Austinites’ love of outdoor space. With an emphasis on spaces for hiking, biking, playing, celebrating, and relaxing throughout the City’s central core, the re-development of the Intake Facility will add another singularly Austin space to an already rich urban environment.
