Competition!
Welcome
Welcome to the first edition of our JCA Netball Newsletter, where we aim to update you on a regular basis with the latest information and product offerings for our future Netball Residential Trips. We experienced great success last season running tournaments for 37 teams from participating schools across the UK. Each of the girls thoroughly enjoyed their time at Condover Hall, set in the heart of the scenic Shropshire countryside. We witnessed some very determined and competitive match play and hope you are all now fully re-charged following the summer break and ready for more excitement and sporting competition this term. Organised by our expert netball event managers Dave Hartwell and Joanne Coker of H.C Tournaments, we offer you the opportunity to focus on coaching, improving and motivating your teams. Witness your squad’s team work, technique and confidence grow from strength to strength, away from the distractions of everyday life.

David Hartwell, of H.C Tournaments tells us about his background in netball training. As part of my rehab I needed to do some rebuilding of my leg muscles and so went along. It turned out that there were not enough ladies so she asked if I would stay to make up the numbers. My initial reaction was “Ok but don’t tell anyone else!!”
Forming a men’s team
After a few weeks, and getting my head around the rules I realised how quick and technical the game could be, and I had started to get ok at the game. She put me in touch with a couple of other guys who played mixed netball and we played a few friendlies.
My introduction to Netball
“I first started getting involved with netball after a knee injury about 20 years ago. A lady I was working with was running a few fitness classes followed by ladies netball
Did you know?
Our first competitive game was at the Corporate Games in Milton Keynes in 1992 and we finished the tournament runners up. From there a mens team was born!
Playing the home nations
We were coached for a while by ex-England
player Trudi Papafio. Things grew quickly and we obviously became quite good as we were invited to play well established ladies teams, counties and soon all of the home nations. During this time we had several tours around the world including Barbados, Canada and South Africa. I played to this level for about 7/ 8 years before another setback with my knee led me to take an active role in umpiring and coaching.
Umpiring and coaching junior teams About 9 years ago I was asked to run a small tournament for juniors and that has steadily grown to running between 18 and 20 tournaments a year. I really enjoy seeing improvements in youngsters play, and the delight they get from playing a competitive game.”
The first game of netball was played in England in 1892
