PRIDE Community Shabbat

Families

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and the St. Louis Jewish community is coming together for a Pride Shabbat celebration! We’re inviting all who identify, their allies and families of all kinds to join us for a community-wide event with snacks, games, music, and other activities. Be prepared to tie-dye. Pre-registration is encouraged. The Pride Shabbat Picnic is made possible by support from the Helene Mirowitz Center of Jewish Community Life Fund and sponsored by the J, Jewish Federation of St. Louis, Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, and PJ Library.

The Hamsa Wellness Community is the J’s cancer community program and a community partner of the national nonprofit Sharsheret organization. The Hamsa Wellness Community educates individuals regarding hereditary cancer risks, especially women and men of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, who have an increased risk of carrying a hereditary cancer gene mutation. We also support those facing a cancer diagnosis anywhere along their journey. We welcome and support all who reach out. These programs are available to J members and the general public.

Oncology Massage

18 years +

A specialized, non-invasive therapy that helps one manage the symptoms of cancer and side effects of treatment. It uses a light touch along with slow, steady movements, and is intended to help the body relax. A safe massage plan generally revolves around the side effects (both short and long-term) of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Massages provided by licensed therapists properly trained in oncology massage.

Strength Over Cancer 18 years +

A small group fitness program specifically geared for cancer patients and those who have completed their treatment. A growing amount of research shows that regular exercise can greatly improve physical and mental health during every phase of treatment. Even if you were not active before your cancer diagnosis, an exercise program that meets your unique needs can help you get moving safely and successfully.

Monthly Breast and Ovarian Cancer Support Group

This monthly group provides support, connection, and education to women in the St. Louis community who are newly diagnosed, in active treatment, maintenance or post-treatment. The group periodically welcomes guests offering meaningful and relevant experiential activities. Facilitated by Kathy Bearman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Newcomers are always welcome. Open to members and the public. A light kosher dinner is served.

Yoga for Cancer 18 years +

This yoga methodology teaches interventions to help cancer patients and survivors manage the symptoms and side effects of their treatment and improve overall health outcomes. An excellent way to relax and distract from the stresses of cancer while taking an active role in your recovery. Benefits can include reduced anxiety and stress, decreased chemotherapy-related fatigue, improved sleep, boost to immune system, and a reduction in pain. Classes are gentle and restorative and adapt to individual needs. Taught by a Yoga4Cancer (LLC) Trained Insructor.

The J Associates is a support auxiliary of the Jewish Community Center of St. Louis. Part of the mission of this dynamic organization is to raise money, which is then allocated annually to departments at the J. These departments use the funds for scholarships and programs. Impacting all ages from infants to the elderly, the J Associates have contributed to important programs such as Home Delivered Meals, Theatre Unlimited for adults with special needs, early childhood services, J Day Camps and more. With the dedication and commitment of more than 500 members, the J Associates have allocated nearly $3 million to the J since 1985, and continue to make a difference in the lives of so many.
