The J’s Early Childhood Center provides high-quality care and social and emotional education that embraces the development of your child. The early childhood years are a crucial stage in a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social expansion.

Pre-K Academy

Pre-K Academy offers play classes that teach reading readiness skills and letter writing. Children participate in brain-building games that help develop focus, working memory, and impulse control. The Pre-K Academy classes give children a Running Start into Kindergarten! No class 3/22 and 4/5.

Letter Engineers

Come build letters with us! Students will begin to explore their creative sides by using materials such as sensory trays, puppet pencils, finger flashlights, and letter sticks to learn all about letters and sounds! Children will learn many essential pre-reading skills such as syllable segmentation, rhyming, phonological awareness, and correct letter formation.

Reading Rock Stars

This class will have your child rocking and rolling into the world of language and literacy! The Reading Rocks Stars curriculum uses a multi-sensory, very explicit, systematic approach to teach phonemic awareness. Children will learn how to orally blend and segment words, identify rhymes, segment syllables, and more. Our educational learning props make getting the brain ready to read fun and engaging.

Basketball Pre-K League

Specifically designed for kids enrolled in Pre-K, this league starts with practices where players focus on learning how to shoot, dribble, pass and have fun playing as a team. The season concludes with games. Teams are coached by volunteer parents and consist of up to eight players. Games played at either J location. Session format is 20-minute practice followed by games led by coaches.

J Basketball Skills Academy focuses on core fundamentals for all skill levels. Indoor Soccer Essential Training

6-12 year olds

This program will teach ball control in small spaces while creating the opportunity to attack and score goals and will focus on soccer skills in a game play format. Participants will play with a Futsal ball (a heavier, low bounce ball designed for the indoor game). Register as an individual player and the CORE Staff will place you on a team each week based on age, skill level and abilities. Age divisions may be combined based on registration.

First Touch

This is an introduction to soccer with our focus on balance, coordination and the understanding of how the body moves. We will cover the basic ball skills needed to play the game with the emphasis on the individual player’s development; (1-on-1 moves, passing, receiving, dribbling and finishing). During our instruction of each skill, we will use many fun games that make the learning process more exciting and challenging for each participant. Run by CORE Soccer Training.

Essentials League

This progressive training program will implement a short 10–12-minute technical training session as a warmup and then proceed directly into game play each session. During warm-up, the staff will focus on individual player enhancement and begin to separate participants into different teams to play small games. The staff will continuously instruct and evaluate each player on their technique, playing options they may have and provide feedback on the when, where and how the game is played. The staff may also move players (even during a game) from one team to another or even one group to another so that everyone has the best playing experience.

MORE LEVELS, MORE CONFIDENCE, MORE FUN

The J Splash Academy, at the Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur, is an all-encompassing learn-to-swim program designed to create confident, strong, lifelong swimmers of all ages, starting at six months.

Instructors are trained to offer compassion-based instruction, positive reinforcement and encouragement each step of the way. The program provides opportunity for skill/level progression, regular feedback and accomplishment awards for swimmers as they progress through the “fishy” levels. There

British Swim School All Ages

The British Swim School is partnering with the J to teach lessons at the Marilyn Fox Building in Chesterfield. The British Swim School (BSS) has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills to children as young as three months for more than 40 years. Like the J, BSS believes it is mission-critical to teach children to swim and to be safe while enjoying the water. With its large instructor base and our large pool, we can serve even more families in the Chesterfield area. Splash Academy LEVELS

Splash Babies 6 mos-3 yrs

Parents learn basic skills and safety and teach infants, including putting their face in the water; blowing bubbles and being relaxed in a pool. Parent(s) are required to be in the water.

Starfish 3 yrs & up

Introduces basic water skills to children with little or no experience in a pool. Get in, get wet, and get comfortable.

Pufferfish

Builds upon performing Starfish skills independently and becoming more comfortable in the water with a focus on learning basic swimming survival.

Lionfish

Introduces strokes and kicks, with a focus on underwater breath control, kicking and pulling to create forward-motion swimming and in-water safety. Students must be able to perform all Starfish and Pufferfish skills independently.

Angelfish

Swimmers continue their development by learning and practicing beginner strokes with an introduction to advanced strokes and kicks. Instruction also includes diving and treading water techniques.

Stingrays

Swimmers refine skills on stroke techniques and proficient rotary breathing by practicing specific swimming and breath control drills.

Hammerheads

Upon performing all strokes and dives proficiently, instruction focuses on distant and endurance swimming while introducing competitive swimming skills.

Be a part of this exciting swim team transition program for graduates of J Splash Academy and those who are interested in the J Sharks Swim team.
