Fall 2019

WELCOME Dear Members, This has been a wonderful summer of celebration! We started with the 10th birthday of the Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur, continued with two fabulous Member Appreciation Pool Parties and now head into the fall with the Jewish High Holidays on the horizon. These holy days are a time for reflection and while we are proud of our two fantastic centers, we know that it takes work to uphold our own high standards. As a result, you may have noticed that we’ve been seeking your feedback throughout the year in the form of a survey. It begins simply, “How likely are you to recommend the J to a friend, family member or business associate?” We ask because we know you would only recommend the best to your friends and family. We strive to be the best. I’d like to share some of our discoveries from your feedback. This survey provides us with a satisfaction score to see how we are performing in the eyes of our members. Our current score is 62% (considered great for health and fitness clubs, where the average is around 39%). It shows you love our staff, buildings and how we create a community for you to make friends, feel comfortable and enjoy yourselves. This score, along with your comments, also lets us know where we can improve. While most feedback has been positive, it has allowed us to identify these areas of improvement – such as fitness equipment. I’m excited to share that we replaced the weight equipment in both fitness centers in August. We replaced or added more than 65 machines between the two buildings! The feedback we have received from you, our members, through these surveys is invaluable. It helps guide us and provides insight into things we may not see day-to-day. I thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, and I hope you continue to do so over the next 10, 20 or 50 years! Thank you for your membership and participation. Shana Tova. Happy and Healthy New Year!

Fall 2019

JEWISH LIFE

We celebrate our Jewish identity while welcoming people from every faith and background. We provide a rich array of social, cultural and educational programs and events to deepen our connections with Jewish values and our larger Jewish community. In the fall, Jewish holidays dot the calendar, allowing us to bring together people for Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot and more.

OLDER & BETTER

The J offers many opportunities for older adults to stay active, social and independent by living life to the fullest. Explore museums, develop new skills in art and technology, enjoy day trips, or just get moving with specialized fitness classes. Oasis has joined our family, offering classes on several topics. We also have a special membership designation for those who qualify and support programs for caregivers.

HITTING THE HARD COURT

One staple of the J Sports and Recreation is basketball. Dating back more than 100 years, you can find players hitting the hard court in the J archives. Adult basketball leagues keep rolling year-round, while the kids join in the fun with practices, tournaments, training and more beginning in the fall. More than 1,100 kids will play, from pre-K to high school, and learn the importance of teamwork, being a good sport and having fun!

AFTER SCHOOL AND BREAK CAMP

The end of summer brings along with it the beginning of school. The J is here to support your children in giving them a safe place to gather both before and after school, and during those extended breaks during the school year. We provide a chance to run and play, do homework and create or maintain friendships throughout the year. We want to reduce your stress while offering your child the safety and comfort of a home away from home.

Group Training is Easier than Ever! Why Signature Training (Small Group Training)?

Small group training offers an affordable path for clients to take advantage of a trainer’s expertise – while keeping the fun and competitiveness of a group dynamic. Groups generally never exceed eight participants which allows for one-on-one instruction when needed, but still offers a high-quality workout with additional motivation from your fellow group members. Workouts are tailored to different equipment, purpose, and more, but are all designed to provide significant benefits. You have several options as you discover what works for you. Try a class, make new friends, connect with a new trainer, and find what motivates you! You’ll love the results!

BENEFITS of SIGNATURE TRAINING

• Improve your fitness in cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body composition • Small Groups (4-10 people) are led by a certified personal trainer to assure proper technique • In a group setting, one-on-one attention is recognized for individual improvement • Easily modify workouts to customize sessions as needed, but always with safety the primary concern • Use of functional, non-traditional training techniques not found in most general fitness classes (TRX, ViPR, CoreHammer, SRT Barbells, etc) • High energy and motivation promotes a challenging, yet fun workout environment • Experience social fitness, be inspired by groupmates, and get challenged (and healthy) all in one!
