A World Class Community Center: Open to Everyone
The J is open to people of all faiths. Get involved. Join us for a class. Exercise the mind or body. Enjoy a cultural event or holiday program. We have something for everyone here at the J. Dear Members, As we head into 2019 and think about what a wonderful year we’ve had at the J, it makes me smile to think about our accomplishments – which wouldn’t have been possible without you, our amazing members, donors, participants and volunteers! Just a few examples… • A record number of campers attended Camp Sabra, offering the opportunity for children to both further discover their Jewish identity and help them prepare for adulthood – and 2019 may be another record-breaker! • Sababa, our inaugural Jewish Arts & Culture Festival, brought together many elements of our Jewish and at-large community • All graduates of our Early Childhood Center were well prepared for the Kindergarten challenges that awaited them, as we received great feedback from their teachers. • We hosted our most successful J’la – the J’s Fundraising Gala - to date, allowing us to continue to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship. As January approaches, we are also excited about what lies ahead: we will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Staenberg Family Complex in just a few months! Our state-of-theart Fitness & Wellness Center has seen thousands upon thousands enter for myriad events, classes, programs and more. When we opened we immediately, became a model of excellence for Jewish Community Centers across the country. This would not have happened without our professional of our staff and the passion and energy our members bring with them on every visit. Thank you! We are proud to bring you the best in fitness, group exercise, recreational sports, and aquatics. We hope you will take the new year as an opportunity to discover something new we can offer you. Whether it’s a new group exercise class, a massage, a trainer-led conditioning program, or even enrolling your little one in our Splash Academy (swim lessons) program – whatever the reason, we welcome you to discover it at the J. We can’t wait to celebrate the anniversary of the Staenberg Family Complex with you. Be on the lookout for details. I hope you’ll look through this guide, chat with our staff or peruse our website to find something new to try – I am positive a wonderful new experience is just around the corner.

2nd Annual! TOUGH MUDDER® & TEAM J
What is Tough Mudder?
Tough Mudder is an endurance event involving mud, with fun and challenging obstacles. You will run, jog, or walk between each. There are some great videos online (toughmudder.com/events/2018-missouri) to see the race in action.
How difficult is the course?
There are three distances, each with a specific number of obstacles: three miles/10 obstacles, five miles/13 obstacles, and 10 miles/23 obstacles. The race distance you choose impacts the difficulty and obstacles offer a variety of challenges and difficulty levels. Obstacles are creatively designed to be fun, but also meant to take participants out of their comfort zone, requiring climbing, crawling, carrying, hanging, heat, cold and more!
How do I prepare?
The J will offer small group training for participants to prepare. Training will be centered around running, walking and jogging stamina, and relative body strength (your ability to move/control your body through the challenges set forth).
