Performance notes viola - pitch alterations as follows:

percussion - instruments 1. suspended metal sheet The metal sheet should be of a thickness such that as little metallic shrill as possible is produced when striking it. If the sheet is too “bright” it should be muted with cloth or other suitable material in order to minimize the brightness. The desired tone of the metal sheet is of a deep explosive quality, a sound that is not immediately recognizable as metallic but more reminicent of the sound of gunshots. 2. vibraphone - mallets -use four very different mallets (in size and kind, from tam-tam hammer to glock. mallet for example) and number them as desired. Circled numbers indicate which of the mallets to use when striking the metal sheet. 1 2 3 4 For the vibraphone, use mallets that will produce the most homogenous and sustained sound when repeatedly striking the same pitch, minimizing as much as possible the evidence of each attack.
