JCI India Challenge

Dear JCI Friends, It’s always a pleasure to be connected with you all through Challenge Magazine. You all are awesome and your love and support gives me a lot of energy to keep going. We have completed the first three months of inspiring journey of the year 2016 and the projects and programs carried by you all were just amazing. First of all I would like to congratulate all the Zone Presidents, LOM Presidents and the members for successful conduction of Speech Craft and also to all the participants who have attended this important ladder for becoming Zone Trainer. Wishing the best to all the participants for the future. I would also like to congratulate all the Provisional Trainers of NTTTS and wishing you all for the great future. Get ready to serve the organization in the coming years. JCI India is all set to execute I-SMART in all parts of India through Institutional LOM and to become this dream come true we need many trainers from all parts to deliver this dream program of JCI India. It’s summer time and I wish the best to all the LOMs who are going to conduct Summer Camp. I would like to add one major concern and I request you all to put your effort to overcome with this. These days due to rise in temperature and less rains many parts of India are facing severe water crisis. The situation is worse in few parts of the country. Being a responsible citizen, we have commitments towards society to provide sustainable solution. May I request you to encourage the “Save Water” campaign and also bring to the notice of the administration and people wherever you will see misuse of water. Water is precious and we all need to preserve this for our sustainability. In a world filled with violence, terrorism and injustice to many, the idea of peace has become merely just a vision as these unsettling acts continue to affect innocent people in communities around the globe. Violence serves as a reminder of how relevant and necessary peace is in today’s society. For that reason, the Peace is Possible campaign start by JCI President Pascal Dike to start a conversation that will foster an environment where shared collaboration and open dialogue occur between all sectors of society, making peace more than just a vision but a possibility. The campaign works to mobilize young people worldwide to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace. The worldwide adoption of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development is just one step towards achieving this peace. It will take the collaborative effort of active citizens everywhere, working to advance these goals, to make peace possible. I would like to congratulate the editorial board members for their splendid working and bringing every issues of Challenge on time. Let’s all Transform, Evolve and Progress by... Just Act & Inspire With best wishes JCI Senator Rajshree Bhaje 2016 National President, JCI India

From the editor’s Desk My dear JCI members, Warm regards and greetings from your Ram. “From within the walls of the soul of this organization, wherein the foundation of character and good citizenship are laid, I hope a message will come in the sometime of tomorrow that will stir the people towards the establishment of a permanent and everlasting world peace.” - Henry Giessenbier In a world filled with violence, terrorism and injustice, for many the idea of peace has become merely just a vision as these unsettling acts continue to affect innocent people in communities around the globe. For an organization founded on the vision of the establishment of a permanent and everlasting world peace, violence serves as a reminder of how relevant and necessary JCI and other like-minded organizations are in today’s society. True to our founder’s perspective, JCI officially launched Peace is Possible, a global peace initiative, by holding a Peace Forum during the 2016 January Board Meeting. The campaign will work to mobilize young people worldwide to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace. For that reason, in 2016, JCI will seek to start a conversation that will foster an environment where shared collaboration and open dialogue can occur between all sectors of society, making peace more than just a vision but a possibility. Whether it is starting a new local project in your community, sharing JCI’s history and vision of peace or encouraging like-minded organizations to join the movement, we must encourage young people to start the conversation and advocate for peace in their communities today. We as individuals need to begin respecting the differences that reside within our diverse global community, transcending the sovereignty of nations. But most importantly, we need to stop waiting for peace to happen and Just Act! We, the Challenge team, deem it right to promote and propagate ‘Peace is possible’ initiative and hence this theme for this issue. Under the dynamic leadership of our National President, NEC members, wonderful Zone Presidents and the real heroes – LOM presidents, the projects and programs impacting the society is steadily and surely moving to a higher gear. Let’s march ahead and create sustainable impact in the society. The Proud sponspor of this challenge issue is JCI India Zone XV. I Express my sincere apreciation to the vibrant Zone President Jc Sandeep Kumar and his team. Please do continue to send your valuable suggestions for more improvement. Also I request you to send articles, information etc... to challenge@jciindia.in and let us together add more value to our ‘Challenge’. Wish you all the very best… Let’s Act and inspire in the year 2016. With love & regards, Yours in Jaycees, JCI PPP Ramkumar Menon

Know Your Organization

JCI Opportunities HOW CAN WE TRANSFORM THROUGH JCI ? “What is in it for me?” is a question that all of us ask before and after paying the dues to JCI India. But, we would like to focus on another aspect – “How can we transform throgh JCI?” We all know that JCI provides us 5 areas of opportunities – Individual, Management, Community development, Business and Internationalism. Here, we would like you to know how we can make use of these.

provide sustainable solutions for it. You alone may not be able to make changes; but we together can. You may plan projects that will help community & mobilize like minded people inside & out of our organization, join hands with them and through partnership with various private & public administrative bodies, we can make an impact. People will take notice of you & Leadership is all about being noticed for good things.

INDIVIDUAL This area is all about Personal Skill development. The trainings that ranges from CAPP, EPS, Speech Craft, ZTWS, NTTTS, JASMINE, KUMAR, NALANDA etc will definitely equip with all the skills you need to be successful in life – be it communication skills, negotiation skills, decision making skills etc. You can become a certified trainer through some of these courses like EPS, Speech craft, ZTWS and NTTTS and pursue the third largest industry in this world – TRAINING.

BUSINESS Trust and Network are the two big factors of getting good business success. JCI brings along with it these 2 vital cogs of life. If you participate in all events of your LOM, all conferences of your Zone, national & international conferences, the network you are going to achieve is beyond any imagination. JCI gives you various platforms to brand yourself. Branding yourself is the key to any business success. ABLE – an excellent business skill enhancement training has changed many people’s life. You can grab that too.

MANAGEMENT Managing people is the biggest challenge in this world. Managing people in a voluntary organization will give you a lot of skills & confidence to handle any situations in life – be it personal, professional, social. Leadership is a skill you can imbibe only through doing. How can we practice Leadership? Take up the positions in JCI from chapter level to international level; you will see yourself a totally transformed person. Program director, Director, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, President etc at LOM, Zone, National & International levels are positions for 1 year each, but a management course in nature.

INTERNATIONALISM The international conferences like, ASPAC & World Congress give you immense opportunities to know the culture, way of living, and way of doing business so that, if you are looking global in business, it will help you in a big way. The only one criterion you need to fulfill to achieve anything from JCI is to PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE.

COMMUNITY Ultimately in life, you are not measured by what you achieved; but what you gave. JCI provides you immense opportunities to serve the society, address the problems of our locality & April 2016

Wish you all a great JCI career…

The decode book, on which after every session, Participants wrote their problems and one to one discussion session with faculties cleared many of our business myth.

It was raining heavily on July 23rd when my train entered VSKP Junction. I was little worried as our reporting time was 9am and it was already 9.30am. Recieved call from organizer taking our position about our arrival time. The vibrant group of host JCI Waltair with most active president Jc Ramakrishna and team welcomed us at the entrance of most scenic hotel of Vishakhapatnam, Palm Beach The ethnic beauty of that Hotel and its surrounding spell bound us and we loved it in first sight.

Two interesting sessions were taken by Business Network International Director, KV Satish and a successful business tycoon of A.P, Sri Prabhu Kishoreji of Varun Group. Pabhu Kishore teached the five secrets of success in business in a very simple format. He told “You just keep five groups happy in your life. They are your customers, your employees, your manufacturers or suppliers, your bankers and your govt officials. Then success will be yours.”t He advised participants to do business in the framework of laws of the land.

Then started the real get together. 68 participants from different states reached by 11 am and the first informal grouping session started by Pilot Z.M.Nassar along with Co faculty members S Shushil kumar, K.R.Rajsekharan and Dilip Jain. The pilot informed that ABLE 2015 with all new contents will help us to learn, execute and grow with brand new understanding and ideas to grow our business.

ABLE created history with participants from abroad too. The valedictory session started with emotional decode speech by all faculties and encouragement note by chairman of the event. With the inspirational speech of chief guest Sen G.L. Manohar, the event was over.

The theme of ABLE was “ Decode your business”. The word decode refer to find or understand the true meaning. The inaugural session with PNP K.V Ratnam’s heart touching speech and most effective chairmanship of Sen.S.Kathir Vel, Editor challenge magazine of JCI India and Jc D.V Satishkumar made the evening most memorable for all participants.

And we departed from the venue with both happiness on the face and tears in the eyes. Now we have put the presentation poster “decode your business to decode your success “ in our office room and whenever we are confused in any point we just see that nice poster which have all answers to our questions.

Then we started our real journey for next four days to decode the business learning. First step was creation of groups with most advanced e-commerce company names like Amazon, Myntra, Snapdeal, OLX, Flipcart etc. The most interesting topics like Business goals, Digital marketing and Social media, Managing Systems, Wealth Creation, Branding, peoplemanagement, customer delight, scaling up your business, Competition and Business Strategy, Networking, Business through Smart Technology and Innovation one by one, by four most learned faculty members took us to a new world of knowledge where we became ABLE to solve any business problems in our future life. April 2016

Really ABLE made us “UNABLE to ABLE.” Thanks to JCI India. Jc Jeypee Satapathy International Certified Trainer JCIBARGARH.ODISHA

Ethics & Values The Essence of life JFM Bharadwaja V S

2016, Zone Secretary - Zone XII

around us to be good. We always want to get all these things. But can we get them, without giving. We can get all the above, only by changing ourselves, when we honor the values, when we change some others, we can get all the above. Our change is the Change of the nation, growth of the nation. In other words we can say, the transformation of knowledge into wisdom is ethics. In these days we are miserably failing in transforming our knowledge into wisdom. Following ethics in management or in personal life is most important thing. If we follow ethics in life, we can be successful. Our ethical behavior can only take us to greater heights in our life. If all the youth of India follow ethics and values, India will be the super power by 2020. Even if you are the chairman of the electricity board and put your figure in the plug it doesn’t care. Likewise ethics are the same. It doesn’t care who you are. Ethics have to imbibed, but we can’t buy them. Every one of us does clean our body every day. In the same way we have to clean our minds with ethical thoughts.

Everyone wants to use the products with ISI of ISO Marks for the quality or the value for his money. Is the man developing any values to get him recognized as a good person? How many of you want to become great people? How do you become? Ethics and Values are such things which are helpful to make us high standard persons in this society. The value of a thing depends upon its quality. For example the value of a tree depends upon its fruits; the value of a sugar cane depends upon its juice. In the same way the value of a man depends upon his qualities. The human values include integrity, honesty, responsibility, honor, respect, fairness, discipline, sacrifice, peace, love, non violence, giving, etc. Ethics and values which attribute to a system of beliefs, typically a religious system, but it could be a political system of some of other set of beliefs. These qualities give value and recognition in the society to human beings. Hence we call them as human values. By following the human values we can grow up in the society with good recognition. Are we become great by giving or taking? If we want to get a salary of one lakh rupees per month, we have to give a minimum of ten lakh rupees worth work to our management. Do we have freedom in giving? Or getting? Undoubtedly we have freedom in giving. Giving should be done in three ways. By mind, by words, by actions. These three should be in one way. That is saying what we think and doing the same. If we want to give something to anyone, it will not happen. If we say that and by doing the same, we can see the happiness in others. We can get happiness when we express our thoughts. We can get more happiness when we do the things. Leading by example is the best way of leadership. The qualities are of three types:

Some Reasons for not following Ethics & Values: 1. To avoid the punishment 2. To protect name, fame, properties 3. For temporary profits 4. For self - interest Some tips to improve Ethics & Values: 1. Values are not taught, they are imbibed. 2. Preaching by practicing 3. Seeing the good; leaving the bad 4. Being ideal to others 5. Introspection 6. Being in silence everyday for some time 7. Listening to the inner voice every moment and following 8. Saying the things what we think, Doing the things what we say 9. Encouraging the people who are following the Ethics & Values.

1. Divine: only giving (Thine (Yours) is Thine, Mine is Thine) 2. Humane: Giving & Getting are equal (Thine is Thine, Mine is Mine) 3. Devil: Only getting (Mine is Mine, Thine is Mine)

We need to read good books, visit good places, listen to good talks to improve the ethical values in us. There is no alternative to ethical practices. Electricity can help us in many ways, if we use it judicially, if we play with it, it will spoil us in seconds. In the same way, if we use ethics injudiciously, it will spoil us immediately. If we have ethics, we will attract people. It is important what we are inside, but not the outside. If we remain ethically, ego will never enter into us.

Growing from Devil to humane and humane to Divine makes a man great. All this can be happened only by giving. There is greatness in giving, there is freedom in giving. So we have a chance become great only by giving. The idol in a temple is made up of a stone. It is made by removing the unnecessary parts of it. In the same way, every man has some good qualities as well as bad qualities. As the bad qualities are covering the good qualities, the man is not getting recognition in the society. Hence by removing the evils, man can become a great man.

Watch your Thoughts… They become Words Watch your Words... They become Actions Watch your Actions... They become Habits Watch your Habits... They become Character Watch your Character… It becomes your Destiny

Why do we need values? I want to be happy, my family to be happy, my home to be good, our school to be good, our society to be good, our country to be good, I want to live in a good world, the whole environment April 2016

When we watch our thoughts, words, actions, habits, qualities, heart silently, then we can develop the power of discrimination. Then the evil goes out. The Devine energy comes out of the man. That becomes the real leadership. 16

Dream! Dream! Dream!

Dreams transforms into thoughts and thoughts result in action. These were the words of our former President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Jc HGF Suja Manoj President JCI Cochin National Trainer

All great things in this world start with a dream. The size of our success solely depends on the size of our dreams. Many people consider dreams as an escape from reality. Only few realize the true power of a dream, and those who realize are the ones who are successful in life. It is the dreams that give us courage to overcome obstacle and makes us achieve the impossible.

realize what they are capable of. Let the world know there is nothing impossible. Dreams of the conscious mind are the dreams which do not let us sleep until we achieve them. It is these dreams that motivate us, strengthen our desire to move ahead in life. It is these dreams that are our backbone. It has been said that if you are already dreaming, then you must dream big.

Dreams are the most powerful energy, the energy that never needs any outside pressure to perform. It is the result of the pain an individual learns from the experiences of contemporary and past.

A car without a steering wheel is useless; similar is a life without dream.

I am a person who likes to read books and blogs. Whenever I get chance I am in front of my computer and reading blogs. Recently I came across a story of a Pakistani lady, who ardently believes in the power of dreams. A girl who was born and bought up in a middle class family in Pakistan in a highly religion centered environment. A place where females are considered a silent by standers in the background. Where dreams of females are limited to getting off the school, getting married and starting their own families as early as possible. This young girl started to dream the day she got a LEGO toy set. She started of dreaming making Robots and going places where no man has gone. She dreamt of being respected for her achievements and to be trusted on her judgments. Circumstances were naturally against her. The odds were high, yet, she believed in her dreams. Today she is working in a very big company named Subsea Engineer in the Gulf of Mexico, making ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles). Today she is recognized for her achievements and respected for her judgments and she is doing what she dreamt off. She is not the only one achieved her goals, just let us look around us we will find hundreds and thousands of people who have achieved this. But again why this particular lady? I took her example because if a person like her, who was surrounded with great odds in a country where women are not free could achieve her goals by believing in her dreams, why can’t we??

Is Bill Gates the best engineer in the world? Does Mac Donald make the best hamburger in the world? The answer is NO! They are certainly the best dreamers in the world. They believed in magic, in the power of their dreams, no matter what others thought about them, these people believed in themselves. Fueled with their dreams, they took risk; they faced challenges and rose above their circumstances. They achieved. We can do it too. All that it takes is just to get a dream. Dreams don’t have to be logical or realistic or even possible in the remotest of senses. They just have to be dreams. Me as a person who deals mostly with youth, have seen that most of them are reluctant to dream. It’s not because they are not capable, but they are not ready to come out of their comfort level. I would like to appeal to all our members, let us remind our youngsters that, whenever they face failure and despair let them remember the philosophy of all great leaders – the power of dreams. Dreams can become the fuel that drives everyone to achieve success. Let us teach them, let us inspire them to Dare to Dream, to do something to realize their dream and never to give up. India has a population of 1.28 billion people, in which 65% are below 35 and 50% are below 25. We all know where our India is going now. It is our youth who will be changing the face of India in coming future. So let us all give attention to our youth. Let us remind ourselves of what Michelangelo said:

Most of the time our youngsters are so cooked up in their own complicated life that they forget to dream. And if they dream – they dream small. As member of this great organization, the world’s largest youth organization, let us make our youth March 2016

“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim to too high and we miss it, but that our aim is too low and we reach it.” 23
