Message from National President Dear JCI Members, Greetings from your National President Jc Ramkumar Menon. Freedom is not free! It has come at a Price! A very heavy price! Is it not our responsibility to play our part and make the freedom count? For some, freedom is waving the flag and shouting 'Jai Hind' on the Independence Day and Republic day. Mere demonstrative acts will not suffice. We need to do much more than that. It's about respecting the freedom. We must realise and respect the fact that Freedom comes with Responsibility. We, the JCI members, young active citizens, can be the glowing examples for embracing the true meaning of freedom and adhere it in our lives. Let's pledge to be patriotic and do everything at our disposal to create awareness among the people, especially among youth that “Freedom is not free. It's Responsibility”.
PPP Ramkumar Menon
2017 National President – JCI India
The Zones I visited in August were Zone VI, XX, XXI, XXII and Potential Zone. It has been a great experience to be the recipient of warmth, love and affection of leaders and JCI members wherever I went. I will cherish these great moments for ever.
Our dream for the year is to take our membership strength to 50,000 and I am confident that we will be able to make it happen with the dedication and support of the leaders and devoted JCI members. The benchmarks set for the major training events have been very high and I am extremely happy that we have been able to raise it a notch higher, be it in ABLE North & South, NALANDA and JCI India Author. The hosts of these events JCI Karnal Agile (ABLE North), JCI Salem Steel City (ABLE South), Jaycees of Zone VI (NALANDA) and JCI Cochin (Author) deserve great accolades for the splendid hosting of these fabulous events. Let's also appreciate the great service rendered by the ebullient faculty teams of all these events. I had a great opportunity to represent JCI India in the U N Global Partnership Summit. It gave me new insights into the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals and the role JCI can play in addressing these concerns. A simple strategy would be to ask a question “Is the project we are planning serves to address one of the concerns of UNSDG?” If the answer is 'Yes', it would be a small contribution from our side to materialise the ideal goals set by United Nations. Festivals of Zones, Zone Conferences, are fast approaching. Make these events as colourful as possible and utilise them to foster better fellowship among members and families. Mangalore beckons you! This year's National Convention at Mangalore is all set to be a master class! Now, we need your presence and active participation to make the event a great success. It's your National President's dream to have 3001 registrations for the Natcon. Register fast and let's give our support to the amazing host of National Convention. Congratulations to Editor Challenge for the wonderful effort. This issue of Challenge is sponsored by JCI India Zone XXI and my appreciations to the Zone President of Zone XXI Jc Abdul Salam and his entire membership for their support. Let's Build A Better Future. With Love & Regards, PPP Ramkumar Menon JCI India President 2017

Being Responsible
Senator Manish Khatuwala Provisional National Trainer 2017 NOM Coordinator G & D manishkhatuwala@gmail.com
When something bad happens because of our action or because of us not taking proper action, then we should sit alone, drink some water, have a cool head and think deeply… How to find a SCAPEGOAT and blame him or her? So that we are relieved. I know you all will be laughing but this is how most people react when they are unsuccessful or when outcome is not positive. What is Responsibility? Responsibility comes from the Latin word responsus which mean “to respond”. It can be another word for trustworthiness. Responsibility is... The social force that binds you to the courses of action demanded by that force. A form of trustworthiness, the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct. The proper sphere or extent of your activities.
wanted to see you fail. Complaining always is also another useless habit of the irresponsible people. The simple method to change this attitude is whenever you open your mouth to complain stop yourself and say something positive instead. You will feel how much this changes your perspective. The next time you catch yourself in the middle of an excuse, change your words and admit why you didn't get that thing done and ponder on the real reason. Understand Responsibility is Earned It is not something that you are entitled, if someone is hesitant to give you additional responsibility, that is because you have been nonchalant with the responsibilities you already have. Whether we are at work, family or social life we have to prove that we can handle the smaller stuff well and we are ready for bigger roles also.
Help Others Helping others is a great way to develop a habit of a responsible person. Making this a weekly thing you can help you becoming dependable and to develop a schedule that How it is Life Changing? you have to stick to. Have you ever caused something to happen and not taken Responsibility for It? Many people have done exactly this and have not owned up. Do not hold yourself Responsible for others A person with a winner's mindset will actually own up and Sometimes we are afraid of taking responsibility because we take responsibility. But sometimes these are not intentional feel that we are not able to perform that we will be held acts and you may feel bad over a certain outcome. Being responsible for the failures of other. Remember, everybody Responsible means that you will own up regardless of the doesn't come forward and initiate action. At least we have tried our best and even if we fail that we can admit that we outcome but this is always not easy to do. tried genuinely. Benefits of Being Responsible When you start being Responsible, you will start Take Feedback Feedback means to be always open to criticism and experiencing a range of benefits. acknowledging when someone has given you valid feedback that you improve as a person. If you want to be responsible 1. You become more confident at work, then listen to your superiors when they mention 2. You become role model areas that you need to work on. 3. You solve more problems 4. You experience better relationships Become an Active Citizen This is the biggest responsibility towards our society which has given us so much and we have to give back to them. Sometimes we are so busy in our family and business or professional life we almost neglect our responsibility towards our society. As a JCI Member, we have to become an Active Citizen. Young people taking the lead in community solutions rather than complaining and expecting someone else, government or society to solve the challenges. By being active in JCI and learning new skills, members are Admit Mistakes groomed and qualified to take the challenge and together, Making the most of a mistake is a double whammy of with other active forces in the community, work towards a responsibility. One of the key parts of accepting better future for all. responsibility is being able to say “I really messed up there. I won't do it again” Final Push Action springs not from thoughts but from a readiness Stop Playing Victim & Complaining for responsibility. If you want to start being responsible then stop thinking that Always remember that whether we come forward to assume everyone is out to make you fail or look bad. For example, responsibility we will be always responsible for our own life your boss didn't decline to give you a raise because he or she and happiness. So enjoy and prove Being Responsible. How to Start Now & to become Responsible? Start Small If you feel crushed under a backlog of responsibilities, start with a few small or fast tasks. Being able to cross them off your list will make you feel as though a weight has been lifted, making you more enthusiastic about moving more on to bigger responsibilities.

Cultivating Leaders Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders
Jc Nishad Rahman JCI Edakkara Golden Valley, Zone XXI These are the words of Tom Peters, who is an American business man and writer. Whether in politics or in an organization, leader is inevitable for the integrity and unity of the same. The growth and expansion of any organization is mainly based on the skill and talent of the leader. A real leader won't or shouldn't be self centered. His attention must also be focused on creating leaders out of his team members. He must be capable of realizing his team's merits and demerits and try to get the best out of them. He must bring out their productivity and creativity to the maximum. Instead of centering all the work to himself, he may decentralize his power and distribute duties to various team members, without fearing dissent and difference of opinion. He must, no doubt, energize, motivate and inspire his group. Whenever a leader starts misusing his position for partisan, selďŹ sh ends, the fabric of any organization begins to weaken. It's direct or indirect consequences drag its members to insecurity and disorientation. We recently witnessed the political chaos in Tamilnadu where the demise of a leader brought the party to the verge of annihilation due to the lack of equally capable and commanding leaders.... it won't be an exaggeration to say that that the Tamil people still bear the scars of that uncertainty. Here is there relevance of JCI which keeps bringing out leadership qualities out of its members. The term of a JCI chapter president is one year. During this term, instead of alienating the team, he makes them involve in every aspect of organizational program and when the term is completed, quits the chair for the next president to assume power. During his tenure he assures that he has sowed the seed for the growth of men moments and material. May be this teamwork of JCI helped it to survive two destructive world wars and still furthers production of the leaders from all walks of life. To develop the managerial skills of the individual member by offering Managerial Training and actual experience as a leader at all levels of the organization. This organization not only develops the individuals, but also works to develop the community through some projects. JCI works to develop the sensitivity of the individual member to social problems and knowledge of community dynamics in solving these problems through actual experience.

Brand Your Self!!! Senator Vibin Kumar V Provisional National Trainer JCI Calicut, Zone XXI
Any brand is a set of perceptions and images that represent a company, product or service. While many people refer to a brand as a logo, tag line or audio jingle, a brand is actually much larger. A brand is the essence or promise of what will be delivered or experienced. A brand is an identity that differentiates itself from a clutter. An identity becomes a brand when it… • • • • •

A Dozen Foolish Beliefs!
JFM M K Deepak
JCI Designer JCI Kannur Handloom City, Zone XIX trainerdeepak@gmail.com “I am a very important guy. I must get that love and respect wherever I go. And from everyone in my family, community and society…” Have you ever seen guys who think like this? “Many…!” Ha... ha... well, I heard you say that! I know you too are a guy who thinks like this..! Honestly, majority of us are. And I hear you asking me, “What is wrong in thinking so? Actually, there is nothing so bad about it. Till that thought is overwhelming you, controlling you. Do you know? The famous psychologist Dr. Alber Ellis called it as the number one irrational belief that people do possess. In fact he identified twelve such beliefs! Who is Dr. Albert Ellis? He is believed to be the second best psychotherapist that the world has ever produced, after Carl Rogers. (Freud comes as third only in this list!). He is also considered as the most important psychologist who contributed more than Freud to the world of Psychology, according to the magazine “Psychology Today”. He was famous for another very important reason too. In 1955 he formulated Rational Emotive Therapy. During his career as a practitioner of psychotherapy he identified 12 irrational beliefs that many people have. It is these beliefs that create many a psychological problems in them. An irrational belief, Ellis said, will distort reality. For example when somebody thinks he is very important, he will demand such a treatment from people, wherever he go. Isn't it illogical? Yes. So, what will happen? Simple - he won't get it and it will affect his mental peace. Gradually it may lead to many complications. Again, it will cause unhealthy emotions which will lead to self defeating behaviors. Ultimately, and most importantly, it will prevent one from reaching his goals. All the twelve irrational beliefs Ellis identified will cause this havoc. So it's necessary to take extreme care. Some of these will be with all of us in small quantities. We have to keep them in control or minimum if we can't fully avoid them. The twelve irrational beliefs are: 1- The idea that it is a dire necessity for an adult human being to be loved or approved by virtually every significant other person in his community. 2- The idea that one should be thoroughly competent, adequate, and achieving in all possible respects if one is to consider one worthwhile. 3- The idea that certain people are bad, wicked, or
villainous and that they should be severely blamed and punished for their villainy. 4- The idea that it is awful and catastrophic when things are not the way one would very much like them to be. 5- The idea that human unhappiness is externally caused and that people have little or no ability to control their sorrows and disturbances. 6- The idea that if something is or may be dangerous or fearsome one should be terribly concerned about it and should keep dwelling on the possibility of its occurring. 7- The idea that it is easier to avoid than to face certain life difficulties and self -responsibilities. 8- The idea that one should be dependent on others and needs someone stronger than oneself on whom to rely. 9- The idea that one's past history is an all important determiner of one's present behavior and that because something once strongly affected one's life, it should indefinitely have a similar effect. 10- The idea that one should become quite upset over other people's problems and disturbances. 11- The idea that there is invariably a right, precise, and perfect solution to human problems and that it is catastrophic if this perfect solution is not found. 12- The idea that you can give people (including yourself) a global rating as a human and that their general worth depends upon the goodness of their performances.” The havocs and tragedy that each of these may create in our lives can't be explained fully in this small article. But if we open our eyes and look around, we can see many people living with these irrational beliefs. If we meet a psychotherapist or a counselor, he will give hundreds of real life stories relating to persons who live in hell with problems created by beliefs like this. As somebody rightly said, the first day of our growth happens only on the day in which one laughed at himself. A guy who considers himself as very important need not be able to laugh like that or enjoy even an innocent joke about him. Then when will that first day of his growth happen? It may not happen. See the affects, see the tragedy. All these irrational thoughts lead to results like this. Let's examine ourselves carefully…! Do you have one? Or some? Take care!!!

Home Maker
Jc Ananta Kalyani V Provisional National Trainer JCI Rajahmundry Sri Medha, Zone IV It was 6:35 in the evening and I had just 25 minutes to pen down my NTTTS assignment, before my kids of 3rd and 1st standard come home after play for their homework. Home makers usually feel suffocated about their daily routine, unable to enjoy the monotony and most of the times feel fatigued about it.
their teeth, or when you have to dress them up because they want that attention, or when you polish their shoes, or when you wave them goodbye to school wiping the sweat off your forehead breathing deep with a sigh of relief. Each moment is bliss, a memory to treasure, a lesson reminding us that we, as mothers, are the very blessed living beings of this As I was walking into my thoughts for a topic, it planet. Life changing incident number two. Let us all occurred to me that I could share how I made my enjoy each moment of motherhood, NOW; next birth current self, chiseling and carving my thoughts to enjoy we do not know if God would give us the privilege the daily chores. again. The first incident, I should tell you, helped me very much. I woke up one day, distracted by my husband's mobile ringing at 5.30 am, unusual odd time for me, because I still had 30 more minutes to sleep. I made myself a cup of hot coffee, the one that shakes off the laziness. That day, I woke up my kids, got them ready and sent them to school in time, all the while leisurely humming unusually less aware of the ticking clock. There was less rush, less chaos, less yelling at kids, less pressure. I loved the way it happened. I secretly thanked my husband inside. Today, I wake up at 5.30 am. That's brought life into my mornings, needless to mention, the rest of the day to follow. Life changing incident number one.
When my son was about 3 years old, I made a very special snack for him to eat. As he put the first morsel into his mouth, he waved at me, opened his 3 Little Fingers and uttered his appreciation gesture for it by saying 'super'. I was pleasantly surprised by his words. Those words worked like magic on me. I stood wondering if I appreciate him for what all he does. Now, I do. Small token of recognition boosts the spirit and self confidence. It makes routine job interesting and successful. The same day I saw the Mystic's video on the whatsapp. Someone from the crowd told Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev that their Job is extremely stressed. The employee was shocked when Swami blessed "May you be fired". If one is suffering because of the job and also suffering being unemployed, is the We are sometimes so seriously busy in suffering with the job or with us? Food for thought, discharging the so called duties and responsibilities right! It is always we, our thoughts and our actions, that we forget to take a break for a change. In fact we that are the causes for the effect. Nothing else, nobody else. Life changing incident number three. forget that it is the way of life and not an action plan. One day, I was down with fever and so sat in the balcony to watch over my kids playing downstairs. Watching them play, I realized that my kids had grown up enough to be on their own. Time passes by so fast. The moments of me at that age are still fresh in my memory and now see... I have taken my mom's place and my kids have taken mine. It has been happening by succession that in order to make build a good future for our kids, we home makers, forget to live in the present. We are lost in the race, in competition, in mass hysteria. I ask myself; Is it not a bliss to wake them up from sleep as they roll into your lap, or when we help them brush
I can go on and on, few more incidents out of which life has been teaching me how to cause the happiness at home. How to execute with heart and not with head, how to MAKE HOME. So my dear fellow home makers let us all understand that the daily rush and routine is NOT a duty. It is NOT a responsibility. It is NOT a burden. Making our home is THE WAY OF LIFE for us. Let us live it, each moment. Life is what we make of it. What's your choice?

NALANDA A Journey of LEAD & LEAP Jc Suvarna Sharma Gupta 2017 Nalandian & President JCI Secunderabad Paradise, Zone XII Though I was a bit twitchy with so many doubts on NALANDA in my mind, I was assured about comfort and care as I heard to the tales of JAYCEES of Gwalior's Hospitality. The dynamic lady ZP of Zone VI Jc Kavitha Soniji and the very friendly Project chairperson, Jc Rashmiji kept the group active and answered all queries with patience gave me an assurance of comfort. The Roll Call saw the galaxy of Legendary Leaders whom we look up to. The charismatic IPNP, JCI VP and Chairperson of NALANDA Senator Rajshree Bhaje not only looked beautiful and dazzling but also made me proud to be a women by sharing her journey of leadership. JCI Foundation Director & PNP Vallabji's every word is a motivation. His age and enthusiasm is an unmatched paragon of immaculate leadership of years, who inspires us to bring more and more out of life. The Pilot faculty PNP Mukhinder Singh sir's briefing gave me jitters about how serious NALANDA can be. His talk and gestures also ensured warmth and a promise of being chiseled to perfection. The Co Faculty & PEVP Pramod Kumarji, who looked composed and friendly, NT and Co faculty Jc Anuradha Toteji who gave me confidence of an impeccable team to start the journey of transformation called NALANDA. ND Training PPP Afzal Babuji who was humble & friendly and Sajan sir's simplicity and the entire environment created confidence, comfort and care. There were million butterflies in my stomach. As the girl in me was super excited to be taught and explore while the lady in me kept saying, "OMG, this is going to be difficult”. Our blue group suggested my name to lead as a team representative. We called ourselves as Blue Royals. The first session by the Pilot Faculty PNP Mukhinderji gave us certain goals to set not only in leadership but also in life as being an 'Active Leader” adds good human values to life as well. It was most important way of thinking, for being called as a leader. The session was followed by Co Faculty PEVP Pramodji', which was on a little lighter side of teaching yet very powerful. The Session on Aspire to Appreciate told us stories on breaking the mediocre performances. Conceive to Conquer session by JcAnuradhaji further gave us the ideology of beating up the fear which is the usual culprit for our under performances. The lady with pretty smile made me feel the session like a conversation with that best friend who constantly tries to motivate you. The Zeal and enthusiasm of the Pilot and Co faculty Vallabji made my jaw drop, not just listen to his exceptional theories on leadership but what life can give if mentored finely. His larger than life sessions on his practical performances of leadership motivated me to live the life king
size. His patience to let everyone interact is something to learn. While we grow impatience to listen to a learner in our life, he had a mount of patience to let us all interact and speak out. Evening was the Nalanda Bash which was an extravaganza of celebration with a lot of pompous than expected. The next day was morning workout session by our Royal team. A brief Zumba and stretches followed by Meditation was planned, I was all set to take class of meditation in lush greenery of the hotel's well manicured lawn. The final output day gave us an extremely thrilling act of dividing our own groups and to perform with physically challenging situations. No words can explain the work and co ordination what went through in this task. One has to truly live these tasks moment by moment. National President PPP Ram Kumar sir, the charming and ever smiling leader of JCI INDIA made CULTURAL NITE more precious with his presence. NP sir danced away for Punjabi numbers along with the faculty team, Rajshree ma'am , Afzal sir, Kavitha ma'am and dignitaries of Zone VI. The event was organised by ZP of Zone VI Jc Kavitha Soniji and her entire zone meticulously. While I put on the graduation cap on, my heart was filled with many emotions. I walked with pride to dias twice to receive the graduation certificate and as one of the outstanding participant recognition, from our down to earth and humble National President and TEAM NALANDA. I revisited all lessons learned. A true leader walks a transformation with humbleness. While we all want to change the society for better life how many of us have skills and knowledge to do so? After this my NALANDA EXPERIENCE, I can proudly raise my hand and say I DO. We all complaint about life taking us as it wants to, do attend NALANDA and u can take LIFE as you want to. Mark my words! The NALANDA was like a time machine which took me back to my dream days. I do believe in time machines now, for NALANDA being one in everyone's life- recreating the magic again. The Time gone can never comes back again but Nalanda gives you a chance to recreate those perfect opportunities for yourself for life time. This is like a manual for life, implement it anywhere (Professional, Personal or Leadership ladder) and the assured guarantee is SUCCESS. My heart was flying like that butterfly which has just metamorphosis from caterpillar. I was all set to fill the colors in my wings and set to fly. I LEAP TO LEAD NOW!

Personality Development A Journey to Success
Jc HGF Vivek Soni Zone Coordinator, Zone Trainer JCI Chirkunda Barakar - Zone III What is SUCCESS? The definition of SUCCESS is “Achievement of an action within a specified period of time or within a specified parameter. Success can also mean completing an objective or reaching a goal.” The foremost thing we get to learn here is that an ACTION, an OBJECTIVE or a GOAL has to be there, the achievement or completing of which, would result to SUCCESS. You can also say that you have to achieve something to be successful. My past experiences of life say that Success is the cumulative effect of doing simple and easy things on a regular basis. Let's not get confused between SIMPLE AND EASY things. Normally people consider simple things as easy things and vice versa. You might be wondering what does this mean so, let me make it clear by this simple example. Since childhood we know “An apple a day keeps doctor away”. What could be as simple as eating just an apple every day in order to be healthy throughout the life? This is one of the simplest health tips that I have ever heard or read. But how many of us actually practice this habit of eating just one apple every day? I bet, at some point of time in life everyone on earth must have tried to make this a habit but, have failed to continue after few days' of practice. Anthony Robbins writes “Success is processional. It's the result of a series of small disciplines that lead us into habitual pattern of success that no longer require consistent will or effort.” It would not be wrong in saying “by bringing minor changes in our behaviors we can change our failures into successes”. Normally we blame everything under the sky except ourselves for our failures. We can change our behavior, approach to life, ways of looking into things, and for changes to be of any value they have got to be lasting and consistent. Some simple and easy things repeated in a disciplined manner leads to success. This comes from Personal Development. Personality Development is the breaking up of old and negative pattern of living and thus developing new and positive pattern of behaviors and attitude that make the person distinctive. Personality Development means enhancing and grooming one's outer and inner self to bring about a positive change in life. The personality of an individual is determined and judged by his/her appearance, behaviour, attitude, education, values and some more varying characteristics.
In a shoe manufacturing company, Rohan was very depressed of the fact that he gets just Rs. 15,000 a month whereas Shashi his colleague gets Rs 30,000 a month. One day Rohan dropped by their company's headquarter to meet Mr. Shaw, The General Manager. He casually mentioned about the difference in Shashi's and his salary. Mr. Shaw said, “Hey Rohan, hold up, before I reply to your question, I have a great opportunity for you. I appoint you as the district head of the new office proposed to be opened on the isolated island about 50 km from the Mumbai in the Arabian Sea. You need to go there and find out scope of our footwear in that place. Rohan made an excuse for the day to make preparations to leave early next morning for the island. He reached there by the evening next day and spent 3 days to do the survey. After coming back he met Mr. Shaw and said “Mr. Shaw, to my surprise none of the local residents of the said island wore any footwear. I wonder how is this place so close to Mumbai so isolated and undeveloped with uneducated and poor people mostly into fishing business. I find no scope of selling footwear in that island at all. It would be a waste of time, money and energy to look into it any further.” Not satisfied with the report, Mr. Shaw decided to send Shashi to the island. Shashi decided to leave immediately from the Island without wasting any additional time so that he could reach the island before sunset and get into work early in the morning. The next noon Shashi calls Mr. Shaw with great excitement and says, “Mr. Shaw, what a magnificent island is this. We have a huge market here as till now no footwear company has yet explored this place. None of the local residents wears any footwear here so we have great scope to capitalize. I wonder how this place is so close to Mumbai and is still untouched by other companies, whereas the people here are courteous and curious to know about the world outside. Mr. Shaw, please arrange to send me the first consignment immediately.” Mr. Shaw called Rohan and said, “Look at this report sent to me by Shashi from the same island where you went the other day.” He said, “Rohan, your income cannot exceed your Personal Development. It may take a lucky jump.” A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity. A positive thinker sees an opportunity in every difficulty. - Zig Ziglar

JCI Global Partnership Summit It was a dream came true for me as I wanted to attend JCI Global Partnership Summit since quite long time. The very meaning of the JCI Global partnership summit is synonymous to associating with various organizations world over and understanding the concept of togetherness. We had a great opportunity to visit United Nations, the world's largest NGO, where all the leaders of the world come together to find solutions for global challenges. I must say it is a humbling experience to walk within the very same halls, where the world's most influential persons discuss and debate policies which carve the path for human civilizations. I am honored to be a part of many discussions in various forums, meeting delegates from various countries and sharing experiences by each other which have given us a new perspective of life. I want to share my experience in an eye opening session; we were part of a simulation and enacted a role play being part of below the poverty line family. We can understand others problems only when we go into their shows. This was one exercise which has driven everybody to think for solutions. I was awe stuck with the information shared by JCI Head Quarters about the prevailing poverty in USA. Anybody earning less than $20160 per year comes into below poverty line in USA. The JCI Head Quarters team organized this initiative in a meticulous way. We have seen lot of people who only talk, but this summit has given us inspirations to act. As rightly said by one speaker, awareness is nothing without action. We had an opportunity to listen to so many speakers from various organizations like Akon Lighting Africa, Brand South Africa, Food to Eat, International STEM Society for Human Rights, KIWANIS, Lady Drinks, The Climate Realty Project, Women's March, YSN, etc. They shared their ideas and programs that they initiated at their own countries. In 2015, JCI formally adapted the Sustainable Development Goals better known as Global Goals. The world's deadline for achieving those goals is by 2030. We had different speakers who explained about 17 UNSDGs as JCI is part of United Nations. JCI has formulated country specific goals and implementing UNSDGs accordingly. Likewise JCI India is active in six goals out of 17. Every JCI Project is achieving at least one of these goals. Take your projects and look at the impact they are creating. Check out the JCI Project Gallery which serves as a method for sharing best practices from around the world. Get your projects posted here. It is a free tool to share your projects across the globe. Visit www.globalgoals.org for more information. The biggest campaign which we are promoting is Peace is Possible. SDG's are in a way means to achieve Peace in the world, let us all make this world a better place to live in for the future generations. JCI Secretary General Mr Arrey Obenson moderated the entire even in an extraordinary manner. The commitment and passion of Team JCI Head Quarters in noteworthy. Want to start action today, but don't know where to start? Download JCI Global Partnership Summit Resolution to learn how individuals from around the world are committing to take action. I am proud to be a part of forming this resolution at this year's JCI Global Partnership Summit. This was the first time we had big delegation from India to this Global Partnership Summit. Ten of us participated in this prestigious event which is headed by our National President Jc Ramkumar Menon. JCI President Jc Dawn Hetzel had led the team of JCI at the United Nations. Service to Humanity… A Report on Flood Relief Program By JCI Gorakhpur Midtown, Zone III The natural disaster in the form of flood affected the Gorakhpur city and nearby villages suddenly on 20th of August 2017 due to heavy rain and sudden release of dam water by Nepal. JCI Gorakhpur Midtown took step forward to the community service and mobilized resources from its own funds and generous contribution from members. The flood relief material distribution program started on 21st August itself by donating Water packets, biscuits, dry foods, old clothes to district administration camp at Gorakhpur Club. But the interest of all the members was to reach the needy directly and then we contacted the NDRF team camping in city. NDRF officials asked us to join us early morning next day at Maniram base camp. Chapter president along with more than 20 members reached the NDRF base camp with food, water, tents, candles, biscuits and medicines. We went there with them on steamer boat to the nearest villages and distributed the food and other essential items to flood affected villages. With the help of NDRF team our members carried out his initiative for next one week in different villages and distributed water, food and other essentials along with medicines. In this effort contribution of all the members was immense and they open heartedly donated cash and food for flood affected people. The district administration and NDRF team praised for the efforts made by the chapter in this social cause. Being the Members of JCI, we always believe that Service to Humanity is the best work of life.

Entrepreneur in YOU
Jc HGF R K Ramesh Kumar Provisional Zone Trainer JCI Erode Green City, Zone XVII With the advent of newer technologies, the art of entrepreneurship has changed leaps and bounds. Young brains with great ideas are nourished by the venture capitals from around the world. In 80s or 90s have you ever thought of running cab service in any major city of India even without owning a single car with just an app and a website, can we think of managing 700 operators, 10000+ buses across the country and still book 5000+ tickets in every 24 hours. In the 21st century the above two are not just hypothetical situations they are wonderful and good profit making business models. These two clearly show the way entrepreneurship have headed in the new generation. No burden of managing the day to day affairs like fleet maintenance, HR management etc still people run cab and bus service. All these revolution happened with the change in way we take problem from the current scenario, existing fleet operators see the change as a marketing help to them. The Ola model has been successfully replicated by people, who operate cab service in either few cities or in an entire state for ex Fast track, Red Taxi etc. Similarly the Red Bus model has been effectively used by a school in my home town. In the school model, the van operators have been asked to provide uniform maxi cabs as per the norms specified by the school. The route of their operation is provided by the school based on the student density and student requirements. The van operators are spared from running behind parents to get the students into their van. The parents now have the transport operated in accordance with the school conditions and controlled by the school, so no room for any botheration about the van driver etc and the fee for the same is collected in a uniform manner by the school itself. For the school, they have no hassle of maintaining the fleet, daily chore of break downs, fuels filling, managing driver and supporting staff etc are eliminated even with no compromise on convenience to the students. Not only in transport industry, but also the opportunities are aplenty even in our daily breakfast, no one except PC Mustafa from Wayanad visualized a great opportunity lies in the breakfast table in the form of idly batter. Mustafa is an alumnus of NEC and was working in Middle East with a hefty salary. The urge to be with his parents, to do something for the homeland made him to come back and start a business along with his cousins at a
meager investment of Rs. 25,000. They started to make idly batter in a small place with one wet grinder. Their quality attracted millions of house hold in the major metros of India and now they churn out 50,000 packets every day with 1100 employees. Now their brand "ID Fresh" is a well-known name in every household of metros and even they are selling in Dubai. In a recent survey among the teenagers, they are not interested in big cars, cozy villas or big bungalows. What motivated them is experience; they are more inclined towards adventure and learning. This clearly reflects a change in the way asset of a business has been considered by them. Earlier to run a hotel or resort what we first look for is a neat property in the business locality or tourist destination. But Ritesh Agarwal of Oyo rooms never invested a single paisa in creating so called assets. He accumulated the rooms in the hotels in all the major places. He now has 15,000 rooms under his belt without owning one. He has got funding of $225 Million from Soft Bank of Japan for further development. So it's pretty clear there is no need for a business background or hefty investment or a decent property in heart of the city to start a business. All you need is an idea to provide a solution for the everyday problem faced by people. Make your idea into a feasible business model; people not only from India but also from around the world are ready to pour in the investment required for the business. To be an entrepreneur keep your mind open, always look for a challenge faced by a common man, think of solutions for the same and if you can make your solution into a profitable business move to make the feasibility report. The technology has grown tremendously; let's try to use that to the benefit of the mankind and for the benefit of ourselves by being an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who is happy to work when everyone else is out partying. An entrepreneur is one who is addicted to success. It's time to find the entrepreneur in you and follow your passion. Stand up and move towards your goal. I create I take risks I live my passion I am an Entrepreneur

Earth's Great Treasure…
Senator G. Venkatesan Provional National Trainer, Past GLC, JCI India. We do not know when exactly our beautiful earth came into existence; neither have we known that nor was it, at the time of origin, really beautiful with its plants beasts and birds. According to geo and bio – scientists they were only later developments; the results of a long and continuous process of generation and degeneration of living beings, the results of destruction and resurrection of geographical structures; and the results of shine, rain and wind. Great disasters might have caused forests with their green cover to be perished deep down into the bowels of earth. Lying there for ages they became diamonds, coal and oil. Our precious metals, minerals and fossil fuels are the products of processes that ran into thousands of years. With our intelligence and ability to look into things we drill into and pump out all those valuable treasure. Man, comparatively the latest origin, has progressed in a great speed with his intuition. Using every resource found around him he made his life very comfortable, convenient and luxurious too. His knowledge about the five great natural forces and his enormous skill in putting those forces to his advantage proved that Man is a creation par excellence. Still, Man's objective knowledge about the external world and his skill in manipulating it is all in the formative stage. He is yet to delve deep into the resourceful sites of His own mind and pump out its treasure to better his own best. This article makes a small and a sincere attempt in mapping out the ways of tapping the potential energies that our human minds are empowered with. The conventional fossil fuels that we get today may get depleted at some point in the near future. But, unlike our oil wells, our human minds can be depended for perennial outflows sans time limit. The following are the means and methods of analysing into the avenues of human minds that help us understand our own personality in a better way. This will pave a way to indulge in a task of challenge or restrain from the same. Travel Down And Locate Your Strengths: Travelling to different places is a passion for human beings. To look at places, to experience an atmosphere that is unfamiliar in his day to day life, to encounter people with contradictory cultures can always be fun and joy for men. However, only few people prefer to travel down into the wonders of mind that could make him an outstanding personality. Those who are talented in this unique travel are wise enough to face challenges and come out with flying colours.
Scan for Weak Spots: Having found the strengths of minds one should be satisfied with positive discoveries alone. For our future rejection or for reformation we should also salvage our weak spots. A person can be successful both in using the potentials strategically and also in averting the pitfalls carefully. Indeed, many successful people know very well what to avoid rather than what they should do! Eyeing Opportunity: When merits and demerits of our minds are discovered through our internal scan we can look at the external world around us and look for the opportunities. This external analysis will open up our vision which will intimate to us all the possible avenues to be en-cashed and to be developed. We can make our life relevant and meaningful by pursuing the right steps with right pace to reach our right destination. Only those who are well aware of the advantages and disadvantages of their own personality can thrive and progress in their earthly lives. Such people alone are said to be LIVING. Threats are the Opportunities in Disguise: An inconvenience is an adventure, rightly considered; An adventure is an inconvenience, wrongly considered. - G. K. Chesterton In all our ventures in this human life we are easily disheartened when we are hit our faces against problems and threats. Once we overcome, they seem tiny dots disappearing into our hazy past. Threats are fillips and flavour to our challenges. In the absence of a villain any romantic story will end up with wedding in the first scene itself! Hurdles put up by villain or villains alone provide a sense of suspense and a longing for happy ending. Personality as Treasure House: All external treasures can be demonetized and made valueless. But man's mind is a treasure house with no parallel in this world of ours. Those who are capable of discovering and tapping its untold wealth are the only worthy people to be followed. They are the leaders. Of the six tenets of JCI the fifth one is “We believe that earth's great treasure lies in human personality”. It is not the mere belief but action in tune with our belief makes our lives meaningful and joyful. Let's do it.

Jc Phanindra Ellentala Provisional National Trainer, ZD (Training) - Zone XII We all are human beings and we are all bound by human nature. Among the zillion people, we meet, greet, and make friends, relationships and acquaintances. Out of so many people that we know, can we find any one person who is totally happy in his/ her life like achieving contentment? Whoever we see is going through some or the other problem in life. Even if you ask the same question to a seven or eight year old kid, I am sure he or she will surely come out with a problem like they are not allowed to watch TV as they please. So what I am trying to say is that irrespective of age, problems in life are inevitable. And it is also a fact that none of us like to have problems in life. I am sure most of us have asked this question to God “Why Me?” forgetting the fact that each and every human being is struggling/ fighting with his or her own problem. Now, coming to the point, why do we have so many problems with which we are always struggling with? We have many answers to this question from our timeless wisdom. For example, it is said that unless a shapeless stone takes painful hits and knocks by the hammer of a sculptor, it cannot become a beautiful idol. Who can forget the adage which says, “Some of you feel neglected by God when some disappointment or trouble comes upon you. You must welcome such obstacles, for they alone can toughen your faith firmer.” Amazing to boost our morale! Isn't it? I am sure most of us know it as well but the question is how many of us actually act accordingly by behaving like it is for our own good? Very little right? Because we know many things but when it comes to our problems in life, we try to fight our wisdom saying our problem is different and it is big. We go on to crib, struggle and slowly wear ourselves out by pushing ourselves in depression/ trauma. Sometimes it also ends in tragic deaths or suicides!
We crib on God saying “Why me? Why is God giving so many problems only to me?” What I can say is we are all God's creations and our creator would test his creation to make the best out of them. If it is hard to believe, take our own case for example. When you hang a picture on the nail driven into the wall, you shake the nail and find out whether it is firm enough to bear the weight of the picture, don't you? Similarly, God tests our strength and ability through a problem. When you are so particular about your work or creation, shouldn't God be the same if not more? Why can't we think like God wants us to be ready for something and to make sure we become what we are supposed to be, he is checking on us? That is where the magic lies my dear friends. Each and every one of us have two choices when we are put to test – either to react or to respond , most of us react to the problems and go nowhere but if we choose to respond, life would be totally different. Like one wise quote says, an unstable mind sees a problem as a threat, but a stable mind will see the problem as an opportunity to learn from and to excel. Also, there is a very interesting aspect. When we have a problem, there are only two possibilities, either we can do something about it and solve the problem or we can't do anything about it.
If we can do something about the problem then why do we have to worry? On the other hand, if we can't do anything about the problem, then why worry at all? Surprising, isn't it? It is as simple as that. Now, you may ask a question; what if we have a problem and we have to do something even if we are not able to do something? Then is the time for you to respond to the problem by finding a solution to it instead of reacting to it by cribbing. Like necessity is the mother of invention, solutions come out only under pressure. Remember even a baby is born with a great struggle by mother and child, only when the child has no option but to To make it simpler, let me ask you to close your eyes remove come out of it will push itself out of the mother's womb. The your watch, put it in your pocket and draw/ sketch your watch biggest mantra could be “Once you start feeling comfortable on a paper without seeing it. Try it and you would know how in life that is when you stop growing” tricky it is to draw an accurate sketch. Don't we see our watch umpteen times a day? Still we feel difficult to draw So I urge you to see the problem as an opportunity to Break exact picture of our watch without seeing it. Same is the and Make yourself a better human being. All the best. case with our knowledge. We know it, but we don't correlate “A Pessimist Sees The Difficulty In Every Opportunity; it at the right time and at the right situation. An Optimist Sees The Opportunity In Every Difficulty." – Winston Churchill
