Message from National President Dear JCI members, Greetings from your National President, Jc Ramkumar Menon.
PPP Ramkumar Menon
2017 National President – JCI India
It's pretty easy to be ordinary! What about extraordinary? Is it being super talented? Being out of the word? Being too special? No. It is all about doing ordinary things in an extra ordinary manner repeatedly! So, it is all about Attitude. Attitude to give our best in whatever we do! As we move into the last quarter of 2017, we can be happy that we have done well so far. But, we have to do better in the remaining days and I urge all of you to continue to give your best, so that we complete this JCI year on a high. We are in JCI to be extra ordinary. To be better! JCI Global Partnership Summit in United States of America was a great event with deliberations and decisions that we, the JCI members, can act upon to make this world a better place to live in with the help of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Yours truly along with other 9 delegates participated in the event as representatives of JCI India. Also take part in JCI International Peace Summit at Kuching, Malaysia with 20 delegates including our IPNP/ JCI VP Senator Rajshree Bhaje which was a great experience, understanding the importance of "Peace is Possible" campaign.
It has been a great experience to be the recipient of warmth, love and affection of leaders and JCI members of Zone IV, XVI, XIX and XXIII when I visited them as part of my visit. It was heartening to see all these Zones doing well in all the portfolios and indeed creating an impact in their communities. I will cherish these great moments for ever. Season of Zone conferences are here again. I wish that the Zone conference will provide a great opportunity for ordinary members to interact and know the organization better. I wish all the very best to the better performers to bag lot of awards. All the very best to the Team 2017 and also for the emerging leaders for 2018. National Governing Board meeting was hosted by JCI Bangalore Silicon city, Zone XIV under the leadership of Zone President Jc Sidhu. Major item in the agenda was discussions on the Plan of Action for 2018. Suggestions emerged are to give more emphasis on enhancing the PR of our organization and to make the activities of LOMs more relevant to their respective area and situation. These ideas need to be deliberated in the ensuing Natcon and I urge all the LOM Presidents to take active role in the General assembly to materialize them. Our dream is to have 3001 registrations for Natcon 2017. Zone XV is all set to make the Natcon the best ever. Let's gather in large numbers and be part of the great show. Register fast and let's give our support to the amazing host. Editor of Challenge is doing a fantastic job, Hearty congratulations to Jc Sachin Kurtikar. This issue of Challenge is sponsored by Zone XX and my appreciations to the Zone President of Zone XX and his entire membership for their support. Let's Build a Better Future. With love & regards, PPP Ramkumar Menon JCI India President 2017

Personality Development Or Character Development Which is Important? Confusing?
Senator Adv. Jomy Joseph JCI Cherupuzha, Zone XIX. PEVP, Provisional National trainer 2017 adv.jomy@gmail.com This is a difficult and confusing context when we discuss personality development. But in actual practice both are inevitable and co related with one another. A fair knowledge of both terms will make things easier to understand better. Character refers to a set of moral and mental qualities and beliefs that makes a person different from others. Personality is the outer appearance and behavior of a person. At the same time, Character indicates the traits of a person which are hidden from sight. The Personality of an individual may change with time and it can be pretended also.
If you want to develop a winning personality you must have the character to back it up Character and Personality Character comes from the mind and as such, it is objective. This includes trust, honesty, leadership, responsibility, courage, and loyalty. Personality, on the other hand, comes from the heart, and is perceived to be subjective. Examples of these are extroverts, introverts, thinkers, feelers, and judgers. Now, why is it that character is important in personality development? Character does not include personality however personality includes character. The character is directly connected with the values a person follows in his life. It is important that we follow and practice important core values in every moment of our day to day life. If we take up the example of legends, we could see a great personality supported by excellent character he possess which in turn depend on the core values followed by such legends. Therefore, in short, we could say that personality without the backing of good character supported by core positive values is just like a big bubble which may perish at any point of time. Can we teach Character? In spite of what many people say, character can be taught. You can do this in the classroom, at home, or even to yourself. There are many self-help books and resources available, many of them focusing on leadership and courage, but of course there are many others to choose from. Essentially, what you need to remember when you
are teaching character, whether to others or to yourself, is that these need to be based on real-life experiences so that the teachings will be easier to be accepted. You could start with something as basic and simple as how you handled traffic on your way to work, or how you spent your coffee break in the office. Focus on the positive aspects. Did you show patience even while you got stuck in traffic? Were you honest and made sure you spent only fifteen minutes on your coffee break this morning? If the answer is “No” to any of these questions, then you need to find out why and what can be done to make it better next time. Molding a Great Personality through good Character As mentioned, personality may stem from your character, though not exactly limited to it. And because character can be classified as right or wrong, you can have either a positive or negative personality. For example, a smuggler can have character because he organizes his group and shows leadership in this aspect, but his actions are still wrong, so it is always important for you to know which side you are in. That being said, once you have predetermined the character you want to have, you need to teach yourself this slowly yet consistently until it has become part of who you are. If you want to have leadership, then live each day showing what a great leader you can be. You can volunteer in various organizations in your company or school, or you can step up and form one yourself. At home, you can initiate activities that your family can take part in and enjoy. There are so many things you can do to practice and show leadership, and it all starts with making that big decision to give it a shot. Character on its own can be limiting because it is bound by opinions and needs the support of society. A man with character can only understand what the other people of similar character understand. However, when man's character becomes part of his personality, it can be used to accomplish something greater because personality is dynamic, persevering, and limitless. If you are able to build a character based on core values and let it mature into your personality, then you can do anything your mind and heart desires. This is the vital key to the everlasting success in our life.

Journey from Me to We
“Individually, we are one drop. Together we are an ocean” - Ryunosuke Satoro
Jc. HGF Shraddha Jais Provisional National Trainer JCI Nagpur green city Team building is aimed at effective relationships within the team because mutual understanding needs to be strong for proper coordination. Even if we take the example of our own organization then we will realize that it also has a strong foundation of team work. We work on self-development which leads to the formation of dynamic individuals and these are the ones who lead to formation of eye-popping Now the question arises that what is a team? groups. And we work as a team for the success of an event. I define it as a group of people joining hands and heading for If taken a closer look, we'll observe that our events, trainings the same purpose. A team is not just a group of people but a and everything we do aren't possible without a team. A group of survivors. It develops the spirit to overcome single person won't be able to do everything so efficiently. tribulations and desolations together to conquer victory. Being with a team makes us learn a lot of stuff. We notice that we start managing people, minds and thoughts. The development of a successful organization is due to team work. But a team has to be managed properly. Team We get to learn from other's mistakes as well. We start co-ordination is the main key to success. Getting a group of thinking about mutual benefits and development. It teaches people to cooperate and function as a team is not a easy us to be patient, to be a good listener, to tackle with people task. It requires learning about each other, establishing trust and take everyone ahead with our own selves. So u see, there are a lot of benefits of being in a group or a team. and developing good methods of communication. Team work divides the work load and multiplies the result. We often hear people saying, “We all came in this world alone and we'll have to leave it alone”. True! I do admit. But who said that we'll be able to survive alone? Now even that's not impossible. One obviously can, but where's the gusto in one man show? The gusto that dwells in a team.

Many a times we say the “thorn stuck my toe”, “My business Thought Power stumbled because of my partner”, “ I failed in my exams Thoughts are intangible, invisible but very powerful. The because of the wedding at home” etc which simply shows essence of the book “Secret" by Rhonda Bryne talks about “ that we deny taking responsibility for faults or The law of attraction”. We attract only what we desire. We mishappenings in our life. I used to be a very talkative & an also would have experienced it many a times. Great leaders and visionaries are people who have it has never influenced change in me. But somehow that day thoughts with great intensity. Transform from within God's creation is wonderful and he has instilled abundance Throughout our lives we come across so many people who of peace, joy and glory in us. But the key to open this have taught us the very basic etiquettes to the most treasure is in our hands. It can happen only when we submit influential people who have awestruck us. Be it your Mother, ourselves to challenges, changes and thus explore Father, Grandparents, Teachers, Mentors, Boss, Colleague boundless energies within us. Life is to Live Solutions for Teenage Suicides
Jc Jakka Pradeep JCI Tirupati, Zone IV
Teenage suicides are increasing in India and it is creating a worry among parents. The strong root of the Indian family structure has lost its strength and this created loneliness among young men and women. Due to the busy schedule, parents are unable to provide emotional support, direction and guidance to their children. Teachers on the other hand are worried about academics and completing syllabus. So students are committing suicides because there are no one to hear their inner feelings, views and problems. They don't have anyone to guide them and as a result, they lack principles, values and goals. They are intelligent but they don't have emotional intelligence. Life Deciding Seconds
Jc S.Karthikeyan JCI Erode Cauvery Zone XVII 98420 85725, jcikarthik@gmail.com In our life, we face many no. of years, hundreds of months, thousands of hours and crores of seconds. Which decides our success in life? Is that the years, months, days or hours, which we spend intentionally or the seconds that we spend unintentionally.
There would come a moment where we may get angry on others due to unfavorable situations, what we do at that moment, whether we react or respond at that moment decides our relationship with that person or people for the rest of our life.
When we look into it deeply, to my understanding and belief, I feel that apart from long years, months and days, a very few sensible seconds are more important and vital that decides our success in life. (Not all the seconds, a very few sensible seconds we come across. What we decide or do in those particular few seconds decides our success. Let us see briey about those life deciding seconds.
There would come a moment when we may be tired physically and mentally after lot of effort. Our mind and body may plead us to give up the effort, what we decide at that moment, whether to give up or continue will decide our success
There would come a moment when we may get success after tremendous effort, what we feel at that moment, feeling There would come a moment when we drive our car or too much pride or feeling responsible will decide our bike, we may decide to take a dangerous over take on a success in progress. vehicle with a gut instinct, that second what we decide whether to go or hold back, decides the rest of our life. Still there may be lot of seconds coming in our life that may decide our success and progress, since those few seconds There would come a moment when we keep our alarm to are very important, we have to be prepared to face those wake up early in the morning.
