DECODING COVID-19 JN.1: SYMPTOMS, DIETARY STRATEGIES, AND EXERCISES FOR PREVENTION The World Health Organization has added a new COVID-19 strain, “JN.1”, to its list of “variants of interest,” its second highest level of monitoring. WHO describes JN.1 as posing a “low” risk to global public health. The agency warned, however, that the winter season could increase the burden of respiratory infections in many countries. Having made up just 3% of infections in early November, JN.1 is now responsible for over 27%. JN.1 was first detected in 12 countries in September, the highest proportions being in Canada, France, Singapore, Sweden, the UK, and the US. In India it is observed in 2nd week of October, there is rise in JN.1 strain cases from 1st week of December. Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that JN.1 is the fastest growing covid strain in the US, responsible for 15-29% of new covid infections. It is already the dominant strain in the north east of the US, where it is responsible for a third of all cases. and p e f sle mprise o k Lac iety co 0% of anx e than 1 s seen mor ymptom ases. the s COVID c in

HEALTHGUARD: PROACTIVE WELLNESS STRATEGIES 1. Nutrient-Rich Foods: - A well-balanced diet with ample nutrients is fundamental for a robust immune system. Incorporate foods rich in vitamins C and D, as well as zinc. Citrus fruits, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins can fortify your body's defences. 2. Hydration Matters: Adequate hydration supports overall health and helps the body function optimally. Water, herbal teas, and fresh juices are excellent choices to stay hydrated. 3. Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Antioxidants combat oxidative stress and contribute to immune health. Berries, nuts, dark chocolate, and colorful vegetables are potent sources of antioxidants. 4. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, possess anti-inflammatory properties that support respiratory health. 5. Limit Processed Foods and Added Sugars: Processed foods and excess sugars can contribute to inflammation and compromise the immune system. Opt for whole, unprocessed foods for better health outcomes. 6. Probiotics and Fermented Foods: Probiotics promote a healthy gut microbiome, linked to immune function. Yogurt, kefir, and fermented foods should find a place in your diet. 7. Limit the Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol intake can weaken the immune system.

Conclusion: In the ongoing battle against COVID-19 jn.1, a holistic approach is essential. While dietary choices and exercises can contribute to immune resilience, they should complement, not replace, other preventive measures such as vaccination and public health guidelines. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and adopt a lifestyle that prioritizes both physical and nutritional well-being to navigate these challenging times effectively. References:1. THE TRICKY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS…!
The New Year 2024 is here!!!! And the very first question I have been asked regarding the next year – is what my New Year resolutions would be for 2024. My brain went back to the decade-old resolutions that I failed to do and Deja-Vu hit me hard – as I have been a person to make several new year resolutions and plans – only to see them crumble under the weight of procrastination and the reluctance to step a bit out of my comfort zone. I replied to the question of impending resolutions with a very vague answer and escaped – although the question ate my mind for some time. We all love the New Year – The prospect of a new beginning is a beautiful hope. It inspires us to plan things and envision a better persona of ourselves. But deep inside, we know that - only the most determined of us all break the wall of comfort zones and achieve greater things. So, the age-old tradition of having new resolutions has become a joke – a mere laugh between people on the better dreams we imagine to be in and fail to pursue. Honestly, a resolution to have a good physique, superb financial clarity, or even a higher career goal is on the bucket list of many dreamers.
But what if we could have a cheat sheet for decoding our resolutions? We always think that keeping up with new resolutions is so freaking hard. But, in reality, it is not because we lack motivation but simply because we don’t have better clarity on the starting point, or even the whole resolution journey. After reading a ton of self-help books and success stories – I have boiled the secret sauce to achieving those resolutions into a few, simple titbits. Following these tips with the three D’s – Determination, Dedication, and Discipline with considerable progress – even with the hardest goals. These tips can be easily altered to focus on your specific goals – might be financial, lifestyle routine, career, and so many other areas.
“Observe Your Lifestyle from An Outsider’s View” It has been a common sentence to tell someone to see from my point of view or step into my shoes. But, have you ever considered having a glance at your life from an outsider’s view? Consider analyzing your lifestyle, habits, and daily routine from a stranger’s point and you will be surprised by some of the raw criticism you never noticed. It gives you a fresh perspective and often shows you the blindside of the most actions we do. Here is an example of how easily we accept a mishap in our lifestyle. On several occasions, I have accepted the messy state of my room and often defended my actions with an “I was in a hurry / I was late to a class” when my sibling raised as much as an eyebrow. I justified it with a vow to clean it ASAP. To make things worse – that mess piled up considerably into a monster cave when I left it unattended for days together – receiving a warning glare from my mother. On a fateful Sunday, when I had to pick my friend up and looked at the oddly similar messy room, I commented – ‘Wow, was there a hurricane in your room? ‘, and got replied with an instant “I was busy. Will clean on the weekend”. The answer made me reflect on my replies and I tried to see my lifestyle from an outsider's view. In reality, I was not that busy but hooked up to my phone a lot and it didn’t appeal to me to leave the phone and start cleaning. Try to track your routine for a day and analyze it from an alternative perspective – it can greatly help in prioritizing your needs, finding any blindsides, developing empathy, and most importantly - inspiring a positive change.
“Everything Has a Root Cause and a Battle Plan”
The journey towards a goal might not be the same for everyone. Although the resolution is fairly similar – The road map to progress through it varies from person to person. Failure to achieve a goal is not always straightforward. For the same task of “Losing Weight”, the roadblocks for each person differ significantly. Some people do not lose weight because they don’t have time to exercise and diet routine – while some have an internal issue that doesn’t allow them to lose weight despite working out daily.
Asthe JCI Action Framework suggests – Finding the root cause is the best way to tackle a persistent problem
Find out what exactly is stopping you from reaching the goal or why your motivation is dropping. List out reasons why something is not working for you and start correcting them – so you can get a clear map towards effectively chasing your resolution. Then, craft your own way to tackle the problem. Stick to the plan and track your way with it. Unguided and unplanned resolutions are as bad as no resolution at all. You always need a strategic roadmap for your achievement – because not all people’s routes are the same.
“Start With a List and Stick to It”
Over a hundred self-help books have literally said the same thing. A realistic daily planner list for every morning – has a plethora of benefits and it really drives a change. There is a super oddly satisfying feeling that comes with striking off a completed task. On the other hand – it also brings a guilty sensation and holds you accountable for every task undone. Listing your tasks for the day and going through them every morning will make you time frame it and develop a sense of prioritization. A list without a time frame is counter-productive. Start small, timed lists. Set up a timer for each task and achieve it. There are no geniuses who always complete the tasks in a single attempt. Failing at the initial times is inevitable and will be a great lesson to correct them in the long run. A timed list brings much more clarity, better time management, fewer distractions, and enhanced decision-making skills. If you encounter a particularly hard task – analyze it and take it by its horns. There is absolutely no good in postponing it for later and eventually not doing it. Accomplishing a daunting task and getting it out of the way makes you super-relieved and high-spirited – encouraging you to complete the rest. To inspire yourself, add a few easily done tasks and complete them. A neat trick indeed!
“Take a Challenge and Journal Your Progress Away”
Probably the oldest rule in the book – Accepting a 21-day / 75-day / 100-day challenge is the most testing strategy out there. The most common reason for failing these challenges is a mere lack of motivation, fear of failure, and missing one or all the three Ds – Determination, Dedication, and Discipline. Resolutions get seemingly tough when you step out of your comfort zone and there is nothing like a good challenge to test those waters. Most people go hard and fast with their goals without a solid battle plan – only to crash and never look at it again. While challenges can be hard – they come with heavy baggage. Understand that achieving a goal is hugely dependent on changing your mindset, having realistic expectations, making adjustments and adaptations, self-motivating several times, and trying again despite burnout. Fears of failure have always been a no-go zone and one of the first reasons to not enter a challenge in the first place. One great way to swim through your challenge is the good ol’ journaling. Expressing your feelings – even just in your diary can make a world of difference. Journaling might be an old-school habit to many and usually daunting – but is the surest way to accept your shortcomings and give hope to betterment. If you feel you can’t write everything you go through – just write one or two sentences about how you feel at the end of the day – A sure stress buster after all.
“Setting Milestones of Smaller Successes”
Break your resolution into the tiniest bits possible and set success milestones. While it doesn’t decrease the overall struggle – it is a constant self-motivator. Success is always an optimistic indication. Each milestone reached is a mark of your unwavering consistency – which boosts you up in the long run. Visualizing yourself achieving your ultimate goal is a very strong motivator and these little milestones fuel up those visions. For example, the smallest indicators in the weight loss journey like - losing a bit of weight, gaining endurance, noticing a little body definition, or fitting a regular dress loose bring such joy that powers people to push forward and see more of those indicators. Feel free to indulge your milestones with self-treating or gifting if that means you are willing to work harder for the end goal.
“Let Someone Have Your Back!”
Solo Travelling is not always fun – so is your progress through resolutions. The motivation at the beginning of the journey can only do so much and losing it is nothing to be ashamed of. We all know how hard going through a tough time alone. Taking help from any of our best friends, parents, partners, or mentors who genuinely wish for your success is a huge boost. Discuss your milestones, roadblocks, and strategies with them, and keep them in the loop throughout your journey. let them track and monitor your resolutions. Ask them openly to correct you if you're straying away from the supposed plan. Having a companion to watch over and guide your progress is so good on many levels – Reassuring that confidence and reinstating your motivations can be rewarding in the end. There is nothing to be embarrassed about being true to yourself and your close confidantes. Start a journey of adapting a new resolution with these tips. You can adapt these little tricks all at once or take baby steps with following one habit at a time. Make sure you don’t rush head-first into your goals with out a strategic plan and accept that failures are there to teach something important. Being harsh on oneself never yielded good results. Understand that you can only learn through your own mishaps and plan better. Resolutions are hard, after all.
Be it small or big – Achieve a Resolution and Fly High. “Happy New Year – 2024, Folks”
