PRESIDENT’S REPORT Another year almost over and Christmas is nearly upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a healthy, happy and safe Christmas and New Year. I was very sorry to hear of the passing of a very respected member, Robert (Bob) Hill-Ling. Bob and his wife had been members of JDCSA for nearly 20 years and contributed to both the SS, Daimler Register and the club as a whole. You could always count on Bob to have several vehicles of impeccable quality on display at our annual SA Jag Days. We pass on our condolences to his wife Rosemary and his family. He will be sadly missed by all. Our first President’s Run was held on Sunday 8th November with 59 people in attendance. There was a great variety of Jaguars from old to new and a couple of members we haven’t seen for a while. Michael Scarpantoni gave a behind the scenes tour of the Scarpantoni Estate Winery followed by some tasting and then a lovely lunch at Oxenberry Farm Café. I am looking at having another Presidents run in the first quarter of 2016 to Carl Lindner’s spectacular Jaguar collection in the Barossa. We have had our first meeting for the organisation of our National Rally in 2018. We had a good turnout with most registers being represented and allocation of follow-up tasks accordingly. We will give a briefing at a meeting early next year once details are confirmed. We were very pleased to be advised by the

Sporting Car Club of SA that JDCSA was the winner of the “Best Club Display” at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. A representative will attend our next meeting for presentation of the trophy. Don’t forget to look into attending the 2016 National Rally in Queensland on April the 15th to the 18th (plus post rally tour). Visit http://www.jaguarnationalrally2016.org.au. The XK, 7 8 9 Register is hosting the Christmas General Meeting this year. Bob Magor, a bush poet will entertain us during the evening, so get a table together and join us for some Christmas cheer. Multivalve October Long Weekend Run

We started off bright eyed and bushy tailed from Civic Park Modbury with a lovely weekend planned. We made it to just before Auburn when our lead Jaguar started to misbehave. Luckily we reached Auburn and here we broke up the party. Arcadia continued as coordinator for the rest of the group and Jim waited for the RAA and continued to Clare. We had lunch at Reilly’s in Mintaro, then continued to Pikes Winery and then finished at the Little Red Grape in Sevenhill. We stayed in Clare at the Clare Comfort Inn and this is where we discovered the BEAST. That is a loan car from the RAA, a diesel Musso with 4 doors and a tray. Needless to say Arcadia did not like the exchange of vehicles. (If I had known what a rough ride it would be I would have packed my dirty laundry in a bag with water and detergent. I would have arrived back with clean laundry. Who needs a washing machine when you have a BEAST). In fact the rest of the group declared that although we could lead the group we were not allowed to park anywhere near them as we would bring the tone down of the group. That night we had a lovely dinner at the Sevenhill Hotel in the newly refurbished wine cellar. Sunday we headed off to Kirrihill cellar door which was very impressive with top quality presentation and tasting. After which we had lunch at Jamestown and finished the day at the 5

Steamtown Heritage Rail Museum in Peterborough. That night after Happy Hour we had dinner at the Seed Wine House and Kitchen in Clare and the meal was exemplary and enjoyed by all. Can’t recommend it highly enough. On Monday we went to Bungaree Station for a tour and lunch. Which was both informative and tasty. This concluded for some the weekend, however after hearing the name of our last cellar door, The Mad Bastard, we ended up with nearly a full complement. Mark Barry who owns The Mad Bastard gave us both an outstanding tasting and a wonderful atmosphere. Some of us spent Monday night in Clare and had dinner at the Clare Country club and we all went our separate ways the next morning. Arcadia and Jim.

What do you get when you pair a first generation XF with a new XE? Why, the second-generation XF, of course. Presented in London ahead of its motor show premiere in New York, the 2016 XF looks eerily familiar. In fact, at a first glance, most will probably have a hard time telling the differences over the outgoing car, with the devil being in the details such as the more upright front grille, Jaguar's first ever full-LED headlamps, the addition of a third side window and the stubbier and slightly more athletic rear. Have the German premium brands and their evolutionary tactics rubbed off on Jaguar? You could say that, but in doing so, you forget that Jaguar itself kept the same design language for the XJ for over four decades… Speaking about the exterior styling of the new XF, Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum, said: “In creating the all-new XF, as a design team we have been driven by discipline, the discipline of simplicity. Every exterior line on the XF has a clear purpose – nothing is superfluous. Achieving that simplicity takes time and requires great determination; it’s all too easy to add lines to a car, but much harder to add character by leaving lines out." The same "discipline of simplicity" can be seen inside as

well, with the new XF once again blending things we've seen on both the current XF and the smaller XE. Owners of the first XF will feel right at home for the most part, with new elements including the central air vents now positioned on top of a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, the fully-digital and reconfigurable 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster and the F-Type-like steering wheel. "Inside too, we have been driven by the desire to ensure the XF’s cabin is as comforting as it is comfortable," said Callum. "New technology, including our new 10.2-inch touchscreen, is combined carefully with materials that cosset and reassure. The all-new XF has a clear sense of calm and strength, both outside and inside – and I’m proud of my team for delivering that." While there's a sense of familiarity with the design, truth is that, the 2016 XF is an all-new car underneath. Whereas the current model uses Ford underpinnings, its replacement adopts a stretched version of the XE's iQ[AI] aluminumintensive architecture, which Jaguar says, "enables classleading weight: 80kgs or 176 lbs lighter than the competition". It's also stiffer than the structure used on the outgoing XF. "Featuring 75 per cent aluminum, the architecture enables weight savings of up to 190kg or 419 pounds over the

outgoing model and an increase in torsional stiffness of up to 28 per cent," said Jaguar. The new architecture led to a different packaging and altered proportions for the car, which while 7mm shorter and 3mm lower than the previous XF, has a 51mm longer wheelbase at 2,960mm wheelbase for improved rear seat space with more legroom, knee room and headroom. Offering a near 50:50 weight distribution, the new XF features double wishbone and Integral Link suspension, along with an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and the firm's Jaguar Configurable Dynamics system that enables the driver to individually tailor settings of the dampers, steering, engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2016 model introduces Jaguar-Land Rover's new

Ingenium engines, including a 2.0-liter turbo diesel in two states of tune with 161hp (167PS) and 380Nm or 178hp (180PS) and 430Nm. When paired to a six-speed manual gearbox (there's also an optional 8-speed automatic), the 161hp model returns 104g/km of CO2 emissions. Moving up you'll discover a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo diesel with 296hp (300PS) and 700Nm, and a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 delivering 375hp (380PS) and 450Nm, both linked to a standard eight-speed auto. Jaguar did not release details about the rest of the engine range, nor did it mention which ones will be available in North America. Production of the new XF will take place at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich Plant alongside F-TYPE and XJ.

As if we didn’t already know . . ! Jaguar E-Type declared the greatest British car in history The ballots have been cast and the voting is closed and according to a global poll of automotive aficionados, Jaguar's iconic car, whether in coupÊ or convertible form -- despite being over 50 years old -- is officially the best ever to come from the U.K. Collecting the award on Friday, John Edwards, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said: "This a fantastic accolade for one of Jaguar's most recognizable models ever built. The fact that it has captured the most votes in a global public vote is a testament to its status as one of the world's most iconic sportscars and now, officially, as the Best British Car Ever." The poll, held to settle automotive arguments, has been running for six months in 66 countries where Classic & Sports Car -- the world's most popular classic car magazine -- is published, and featured a shortlist drawn up by a panel of some of the industry's most respected names, including legendary designer Gordon Murray. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the car that is most closely associated with Murray's genius, the McLaren F1, was one of the 10 finalists that made the shortlist. Still, he was more than magnanimous in defeat and praised 8

the E-Type's: "Classic styling and advanced engineering." Other cars to make the final list include the original Mini Cooper S, the original Range Rover, the Lotus Seven, the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, the Austin 7 and, controversially, the Ford GT 40, which, although an American marque, was conceived, designed, developed and built in the U.K. Built in 1961 and actually driven from the factory in Coventry to Switzerland for its unveiling at the Geneva motor show, the E-Type married cutting-edge design with incredible speed and handling in an affordable package. As commentator and jury member Simon Taylor notes: "Not only the fastest and most beautiful supercar of its day, but also miraculously half or one-third of the price of the cars that it pulverized. If they'd only made 75, instead of 75,000, they'd be auctioned today for Ferrari GTO money." Even Enzo Ferrari himself admitted there were only two cars about which he ever felt pangs of jealously -the Mini and the E-Type Jaguar. He went as far as to declare the E-Type the "most beautiful" car ever made. Yet it almost didn't happen. The E-Type was originally conceived as a racecar, but thankfully Jaguar realized what they had on their hands and the track sensation quickly grew into a road-going convertible and coupe and one that during its lifetime could count Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra among its many fans. Lyonheart K, Modern Interpretation of Jaguar E-Type

CARSCOOPS If you're mad about cars like we are (in a good and constructive way, of course), you will no doubt be in love with the clean flowing shapes of the 1960s classics. TheJaguar E-Type is easily one of the highestranking of these automobiles, and it has been pulling at the heart strings of motoring enthusiasts for over 40 years. We already have a modern interpretation of the E-Type, in the form of the very pretty Eagle Speedster, but that still retains the same design elements of the classic. If you are looking for an even more modern adaptation of the E-Type formula, then perhaps the new Lyonheart K is for you. Sure, it costs a fortune and then some more at €360,000 ($464,500) for the hardtop and €375,000 ($483,800) for the drop top, but you do get a thoroughly modern car in exchange. It still looks unmistakably like an E-Type, but you will undoubtedly be able to tell that this car is from 2013, or 2014, because it is set to go into production in December. The company is even based in Coventry, historic home of Jaguar, and what they are offering is really rather appealing. You get a lightweight aluminum chassis, adjustable dampers, and modern suspension. Power comes courtesy of a Cosworth-built five-liter V8, which is good for 567 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) – the car can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, before topping out at 186 mph or 300 km/h.

The meeting started with Rob thanking Onslow and Wendy for hosting the meeting. 2015 Border Run: 21 members from South Australia went on the Border Run which was a great success and very enjoyable. All the cars got there and back safely. Whilst with the Victorian members the next border run was discussed and it was agreed that most members would not want to take their XKs up to the snow, although it is agreed it would be a good run. Steve Weeks is still considering this as a club run, which could include members from interstate and would appreciate any offers of help to arrange it. Rob Loffler is sending an article to the UK XK magazine about the border run and may also include an article about the record breaking speed boat which belonged to Ray Loffler, and which Rob has now fully restored. Club Xmas Get Together: 1st December at the Police Club at 6 pm for dinner. Bob Magor, the bush poet, is the entertainer for the evening and Rob will organise a large table for all those attending. Onslow will be the MC. Please advise Rob if you will be attending. Mannum All Steamed Up Festival: 19-20 November 2016. The organisers of this event would like us to show our cars and any members wishing to stay for the whole weekend are reminded that accommodation needs to be booked now. Please advise Rob if you will be attending. AquaFest, Goolwa 9-10 April 2016. The organisers of this event would like us to display our cars with a board giving some information regarding the various types of cars and any interesting information. Jaguar National Rally 2016: 15 - 18 April 2016, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast, Queensland. A program is now available for any members who wish to attend. Registration can be made on line now at www.jaguarnationalrally2016.org.au. McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic Run: 17 April 2016. This event is on again and on Saturday 16th there is an opportunity to attend a 3 course dinner, including drinks, for $90 per head at Serafino Winery Complex. The guest speaker will be V8 driver Larry Perkins. Advise Rob if you wish to attend this dinner. SS and Daimler Register: On 17 January 2016 we are invited to attend this register's annual bbq at 275 The Esplanade, Seaford. Please advise Rob if you wish to attend. Classic Marque: Any articles to be included in the Classic Marque are to be submitted by the last Tuesday of each month.

Lake Goldsmith Steam Traction Engine Display: Richard will check out this event which is held in the first week of May. This could be a future run. Border Run 2016: Rob Loffler asked for ideas regarding this event, which is to be hosted by our register. Various suggestions of Burra and Clare were made, but Rob would like any interested persons to offer to set up this event, with help from other members. Any suggestions and offers of help should be directed to Rob. Fleurieu Peninsula Run: Helen Smith has kindly invited the register to her Middleton home for morning tea and then on to the Blues Restaurant for lunch. This is anticipated as being a run either in May or June 2016. Peggy Davis to check out the details of the lunch venue. Members Cars: Richard Smith: Car went well on the Border Run, apart from getting a slight bump in the front after an argument with a post. John Williams: Car went well on the Border Run and has also done a couple of trips to Beetaloo. Brian Barwick: Does not have a Jaguar but showed us a picture of his 1929 Graham Paige saloon and gave us some very interesting facts on it. Onslow Billinghurst: Car went well on the Border Run. Julian Lugg: The 120 is undercoated and should be painted black in the next week or two. Must be ready by end of January for a wedding. Rod Davis: Went to the Border Run in the X type diesel and was very pleased with the fuel consumption. Took the XK140 on the Presidents Run to McLaren Vale and it went very well. Peter Goodale: Nothing to report. Neither car has been out for a while. Graeme Schultz: Car went well on the Border Run apart from a small amount of water coolant leaking but this is being fixed. Rob Loffler: Car went well on the Border Run apart from a problem when 13 spokes broke in one wheel. Two new wheels have been ordered from America. Next Meetings: 1st December 2015 at Xmas Get Together, Police Club, Adelaide. No January meeting 3rd Wednesday in February 2016 at Ossie and Rayeena's home. (To be confirmed) 20th March 2016 at home of Graeme and Fiona Schultz for a Sunday run and pizza lunch. Meeting finished at 9 pm.

This year it was the Victorian’s turn to organise the gathering of the South Australian and the Victorian register’s of the Push rod vehicles. This occurs annually somewhere between Melbourne and Adelaide, Ballarat was the chosen venue. As it was such a long distance, we in old cars, some cars built as early 1939, decided that 800 km in one day was just too much for these elderly cars, or was it the average age of the drivers, 70+, anyway it was an overnight stop at Horsham. Average build date of 1950, that is 65 years old, no power steering, no air conditioning and crossply tyres. A lot more concentration and effort required to keep them running straight and true, also listening for any strange noise that would indicate a problem. As we were travelling between 80-90 Kph, one was constantly watching all other road users so as too not hinder them. This is what us old farts enjoy, driving old cars. We met the XK, MVII register at Tailem Bend as they were on their Border run with the Victorians. We left at 1030 and drove in convoy to Keith for Lunch It must have been an impressive sight as many other cars flashed their lights, waved etc. Not a good feeling when being passed by a Double-B and they blow their horn. Lunch at Keith, and then we went our separate ways XK to Apollo Bay, SS to Ballarat. Ballarat whilst trying to find our motel. A social gathering with old acquaintances, followed by a Buffet dinner. There were two newly restored Jaguars having their first official outing, an SS100 and a Jaguar MIV. (both Victorians.) Saturday morning we displayed our cars at Lake Wendouree, situated next to the Botanical Gardens, weather was a bit misty, but fined up ok. Saturday afternoon saw us visit Sovereign Hill and the Gold Museum. Saturday night, dinner at Sovereign Hill and the “Blood on the Southern Cross” show, the story of the Eureka Stockade. Sunday was a culture morning with a visit to the Art Gallery, showing the ‘Archibald Prize” and all other contestants. Lunch at the Quion Hill Winery, lovely setting some 20 kms from Ballarat. The food was excellent, we were wondering how we would fit dinner in later that night. Our return journey was via the township of Clunes. The farewell dinner was held at the Ballarat Lodge. After a long weekend of stories, many laughs and catching up old and meeting new friends it was time to say good-bye and we departed on Monday, we South Australians a two day drive home and the Vic’s home by lunch time. Our overnight stop was at Bordertown, where we were invited to a BBQ put on by the Bordertown Restorers Club. They had a very good collection of vehicles on display, we were as interested in theirs as they were in our early Jaguars. The BBQ was held at the Clayton Farm, a working farm with 22

an old farm house, including a huge shed with many early farming implements. These country women certainly know how to put on a good spread. We thank them for an excellent evening. Home to Adelaide the next day, there was only one minor problem, a puncture, all other cars had no problems. Given a week and all the old drivers will have recovered, we could go again!!!! Those who went were either JDC or JCCC members, either owned a pushrod, or had owned one. XK, Mk 7, 8 and 9 Register, Annual Border Run Friday 30th October was the start of the XK MK7,8,9, annual Border run. This year was hosted by the Jaguar club of Victoria and managed by Brain Jenkins. The 21 members from our registrar met with members from the S.S. & Daimler registrar at the Shell Service station Tailem bend and travelled to Keith for a joint lunch before going our separate ways.We travelled the scenic route to our overnight stay to Castleton Victoria. Fridays drive took us via Heywood, Port Fairy & Warrnambool to Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road, a beautiful drive to meet the 19 Victorian contingent for a well deserved happy hour and Dinner at a local Restaurant Saturday was a leisurely start to Lorne along one of the most spectacular drives in the world, the Great Ocean Rd, then on to Aireys Inlet to a 1960s American style Diner for lunch and a visit to a very diverse antique shop, and a view of the house on a pole with its great ocean vista., then a return trip with a stop at Lorne for afternoon tea before dinner in a local Seaford Restaurant. Sunday was again a relaxing 10 am start for the Otway Fly Treetop walk, via the very windy Beech Forest Scenic Drive, a great one & a half hour walk through

the tree tops and lunch at the cafe then back to the coast via Lavers Hill to visit and climb the Cape Otway Light Station returning to Apollo Bay for a farewell dinner at a Thai Restaurant. Monday was an early start as some of the South Australians were going different directions but 7 cars returned to Adelaide Via Mt Gambier for an overnight stay , visiting the Blue Lake and the sink hole gardens , then travelling the Coorong road towards Adelaide. A total of 21 people left Adelaide and after a great trip with very few dramas 21 people safely returned. AMAZING
