A Letter from the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,
The last quarter of the 2019-2020 school year was filled with excitement of a different sort than we typically experience. When the decision was made to close schools for two weeks after spring break, we circled the wagons and made a plan to continue learning from home. When that two weeks was extended through the end of the year, our teachers, students, and parents kept right on working. Lots of extra effort was required on everyone’s part, but I am proud of the success stories that were shared. Our eighth grade students, unable to perform their traditional Living Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday, collaborated from home to produce a digital version for all students to experience online. The May Crowning to honor our Blessed Mother became a YouTube video combining each eighth grader’s recorded contribution into a beautiful tribute, thanks to the digital savvy of some of our student leaders. Mrs. St. Charles, with input from her students, created a virtual eighth grade class trip for the last week of class, which incorporated virtual tours, digital and physical challenges, acts of kindness, a Kahoot trivia game, and a yearbook scavenger hunt, all in a framework of friendly competition between teams of students connected through their devices. Second grade students were inspired by art teacher Caitlyn Henneberry and Miss Osborne to create Guatemalan worry dolls to put under their pillows and make worries disappear. Librarian Rai Wood collaborated with Miss Witt to provide a STEAM lesson for 3rd graders using common household items. Students in both classes shared their creations and discoveries with classmates in Flipgrid. Field day was modified to comprise challenges done at home, all demonstrated by Coach Vance and daughter Catherine via a recording in Google Classroom. Students submitted entertaining photos and videos of their results. The ingenuity and perseverance displayed by students and teachers assured me of a high level of engagement. Parents creatively took on the role of facilitating learning at home. One dad put on a tie each morning to be the principal and began the day with morning prayer. Parents set up learning stations and schedules at home and became more literate in using our online learning platform. They encouraged, explained, supervised, communicated, and took pictures of it all to share with us. The comments that meant the most to me were from moms and dads relating how much understanding they gained about how their child learns. It has been a spring to learn and grow. While much that we looked forward to was lost, much was also gained in new competencies and perspectives. I am grateful that we had the knowledge and tools to remain productive to the end. I am also thankful for everyone who helped us cross the finish line triumphantly. Sincerely, Mrs. Sherry Woodman Principal
The 2019-2020 Annual Fund: Thank you for your partnership and support of Christ the King School. Your gifts have made a significant impact both inside and outside the classroom, helping us continue to grow and act on the needs of our great students and teachers. The pandemic has shown us how vital it is that we remain adaptable and responsive to new learning and to the ever changing needs we are all experiencing. The Annual Giving Fund is coming to a close on JUNE 30 and we hope you will consider making a gift. You have been a valued partner in advancing the mission of Christ the King School for many years and we are eternally grateful. There are many ways to support our school: Online: ctk.org/donate CTK School - Annual Giving; call Development Director Jennifer Harris at 615-777-8975; mail a previously received annual fund envelope with check or credit card information, or mark “gifts of prayer.” Christ the King continues to pray for the safety of our community during these unprecedented times and we hope you and your family are safe and well. We thank you kindly for your consideration and look forward to seeing everyone back on campus when it is safe.
