This massing study shows the shaded promenade that skirts the park at the lower level. The promenade also contains shops and is designed at a scale intended for human comfort.
Then the scale steps up to the higher density to take advantage of the view of the park and Paynes Prairie to the south.

My Minor in Urban and Regional Planning and my deep interest in designing within the urban fabric led me to amazing projects. The following projects involved digitally designing and manually building models in SketchUp, helping me understand the spatial relationships between the horizontal and vertical elements within the urban environment. Extensive GIS site analysis, AutoCAD truthing, and Photoshop rendering were needed to develop the complex sites.

Design Concept The way the University was planned does not have a cohesive connec on to the fabric of Gainesville-the school and the City have grown inside and around each other without communica on or a shared vision between the two en es, outside of the development of Innova on Square. The City of Gainesville has lacked a city-wide vision and comprehensive planning ini a ves, other than through the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). The design area is limited by Emerson Alumni Hall/NW 20th Terrace to the west to the corner of University Avenue and 13th Street to the east, north to NW 2nd Avenue, and south to South Union Road. Within the project area is a sports facility that can house over 85,000 people for events and games. There is a large amount of development within the surrounding area in both the University and the City. The design aims to create a cohesive system that es the University of Florida campus into the urban fabric of the City. This will create a dynamic, vibrant area that is safe and convenient for ci zens, students, sta, and visitors to the city to enjoy, live, work, and be entertained. 26

The History Plaza with its trains to roads and to present tour of history through the different historical kiosks built in the styles of the periods from cracker style to Flageresque/Mizner. So that not only those on the trail network will have a great way stop but those on the high way. The History Plaza main building houses restroom facilities, vending machines, Model Train Room with Video of Tour of the development of the Flagler Railroad and how its reach through John Hastings creat-ed the train network to support his developments in St Augustine and eventually in West Palm Beach

OBJECTIVE: To create an a rac ve amenity with unique features which will en ce travelers from the trail and State Road 207 to stop and explore. Families from nearby towns will visit the park to play and picnic. The park features a mini railroad with “history sta ons� that tells how the area was developed as agricultural land for potatoes and other vegetables. 30

Indonesia Study Abroad Design Workshop Master Plan of Recrea on and Wetland/Reservoir Restora on Kacang Pedang
The University of Florida gave 7 students the opportunity to collaborate with an Indonesian University, the Ins tut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), on a design project in Pinkal Pinang, Indonesia, located on Bangka Island. 40

The proposal included circula on, drainage, wetland restora ons, community parks, and recrea onal centers. A topographically complex and physically large site with mul ple cultural and historic priori es provided the study area with many design issues to be solved and conceptualized. The project had a ght deadline and difficult working condi ons, including 75-hour work weeks, limited access to the Internet, and a language barrier. Despite the challenges, this study abroad project was an incredible experience and a wonderful learning opportunity.

Zone Design: Section
From the day Grace Marketplace opened in May 2014, tents began to pop up around its perimeter. Over the next several months, the Dignity Village homeless camp developed piecemeal just outside the shelter and social services center. Now, a group of University of Florida urban planning and landscape architecture students have recommended a long-term master plan they say will help the property function more like a true campground, while increasing resources for those seeking to transition out of homelessness. Unveiled at the Grace Marketplace chapel Tuesday afternoon, the plan calls for 240 individual camp sites, each with a 15-by-15 foot tent pad, in six separate zones. Their proposal included 48 Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sites, utilities such as water and electricity, bathhouse buildings for showers and restrooms, and paths through the site to allow police and emergency vehicles to move through more easily. It also recommended better security lighting, grading the land and digging retention ponds to combat standing water and flooding problems, a community garden, more native plants and an additional access point to Grace Marketplace, which is separated from the campground by a long stretch of fence. Jessica Leonard, who was part of the site design team for the project, said the goal was to make Dignity Village “a more livable space.” The students’ presentation did not include a cost estimate for the recommended improvements to the area, which the city of Gainesville manages and oversees.
