THE WILLIAMSBURG HOTEL A ÂŁ30m new build commercial, hotel project located in the city of New York, US. A new build hotel with a distinctive vintage and rustic feel was to be designed for The Wythe Hotel group. Initial tender documents were required along with plenty of design information for the client. These include the schedules for interior fittings throughout the hotel, detailed scaled plans, elevations and section drawings. THE SCRAPMAN’S ENTERPRISE : RECLAMATION OF CULTURE, POWER AND PROFITABLE GOODS

The scrapman’s enterprise is a project located in the neglected neighbourhood of El-Raval, Barcelona, and follows the livelihood and passions of the scrapman and his apprentices. The proposed scheme contains: a series of workshop spaces, recycling spaces, living accommodation, meeting spaces, retail spaces and a secret underground workshop. An on-site furnace provides not only the ‘equipment’ to smelt collected scrap metal but also allows waste heat to be recycled for localised hot water heating within the building. Using scrap materials, scrapmen create dynamic architecture and art to revitalise neglected zones within their neighbourhood. Bespoke art pieces are also created within the building to depict historic stories unique to the neighbourhood and city. In this way the scrapmen are able to ‘tell the stories’ of the neglected people of El-Raval.

THE TOTTENHAM STALEMATE PLATFORM

In August 2011 a riot errupted on the streets of Tottenham and lead to widescale destruction throughout the UK. The Tottenham Stalemate Platform is a centre for conflict resolution for members of the public and the police in an attempt to prevent reoccurences of the riots. The scheme is situated in the centre of the existing Tottenham police station. The proposed design utilises hexagonal shaped ETFE panels on the facade to create a friendly interactive facade and to increase the transparency throughout the building. Local artists and community groups are invited to produce art which is featured internally and externally as a celebration of the good things in Tottenham. In addition to this, the ground floor contains an open auditorium where members of the public and the police task force can debate openly about issues that matter to them. This encourages the sharing of opinions and reduces animosity between the two groups, thus transforming the previous riot start point into a place of enjoyable communal interaction.

LIVING OASIS COFFEE SHOP AND BOOK SHOP The goal of the Living Oasis Project was to propose an entire interior design makeover of the existing building and to provide a new look to both the interior and exterior which would include new store displays, branding and logos. This project was an initial ideas and proposals project. I created rendered visuals using photoshop and Kerkythea to allow the client to visualise the potential of their scheme.

ROOM FOR LONDON “If these walls could talk” is the title chosen to represent our entry for the 2010 Living Architecture and ArtAngel’s “Room for London” competition. The competition brief required a self-contained ‘room’ which would provide a contemplative space for up to two people at a time during their stay in London during the 2012 London Olympics. The site of the said ‘room’ was the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Waterloo, London where access to the room had to also accommodate disable access. The budget was £150k including all transport and construction costs.

RENTAL PROPERTY ABROAD The Bodurin Project is a residential project located in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. It was initiated by Mr & Mrs Bodurin in Jan 2011. The main goals were to maximise the rental potential of a single building on the 810sqm plot of land available and to provide a permanent holiday home for their family of four and accompanying guests. The brief also required that there would be sufficient space for parking cars in the front of the house and also that the family annex would have it’s own separate access to the rest of the building. In addition to this, a small communal garden was added to the rear of the house and some shaded first floor balconies to create a few attractive external viewpoints where residents can relax outdoors. With Lagos being a very densely packed city these spaces add a touch of ‘grass and sky’ to the surroundings which is always appreciated by residents.

B.ARCH : THIRD YEAR - BELL TOWER The Bell Tower is a multi-stage project located in the town of Bilborough, Nottingham, East Midlands. The Bell Tower, houses an on-site foundry, living quarters, downstairs community workshop spaces and an eatery. The narrative behind the Bell Tower is the story of Mr. Tinn, a ficitional character who is the town crier of the local Parish of St. Martins, Bilborough. From this narrative and extensive research of the area emerged a unique architectural response.

B.ARCH : SECOND YEAR - MATLOSANA TAPESTRY The Matlosana Tapestry is a project initiated by Education Africa, a charity with the aim to assist developing areas of South Africa by partnering with Architecture schools from different parts of the world. Developed through a series of hand drawings and models, the Matlosana Tapestry is a series of daycare units and outdoor play & learning facilities sheathed by four colourful reflective screens. These screens feature art and messages drawn by members of the community and draws inspiration from South African vernacular art traditionally used as a means of creating an identity for buildings and communities.

BOTTOM: Casting Spaces Wax, lace and brass wire SPRING 2010 This prototype involved using bell casting techniques; creating a plaster mould and placing sheets of lace around the mould and then pouring molten wax over it, then finally the mould which was not allowed to dry is then washed away.
