Faculty Of Arts and Science Rep Manifesto 2011 My Name is Dale Why and i am running for one of the positions of Faculty of Arts and Science representatives at Edge Hill University, but what does this mean for you the student you may ask. Well as a student of Film and Tv Production i fall under the banner of Arts and Science and i want to create a togetherness within the six different departments we each represent. We are unique as we expand from Business to sport, and from Media to Geography, each of us contributing to make our Faculty one of the most exciting and creative at the university. A vote for myself will ensure our creativity doesn’t go unnoticed, unfortunately sometimes it can feel as if we are constantly in the background and i want to change that, showcasing our talents to all at the university. Giving our faculty a strong voice ensures your questions and concerns do not go unnoticed, I already have a strong working relationship through my work as a course rep and constant work with the Student Union allows my voice to be heard on a personal as well as a professional level. We as a faculty deserve the best, we have some of the most exciting projects happening in recent years and i want this continue throughout the coming years, if i was elected as your representative i would push forward several proposals with YOU at the forefront of these. One such proposal is the strengthening of the resources available to us as a Faculty and individual departments, since the creation of facilities such as the new and up to date TV Studio in the LINC building but why stop there? Resources can be greatly improved to keep up to date with the industry standard across all departments in the faculty. Final Cut Pro is currently used in every room in the CMIST building however each room carries a different version making it hard for Students to transfer their work when one room is unavailable. Room availability is an issue being brought up throughout the Faculty, As Cmist is the only building that is capable of providing students with editing software i propose updated Pc terminals be placed in location such as the Library and the LINC building ensuring easy access. Also there have been numerous complaints about the mis-use of the library something i feel very strongly about, often finding the Library full with people on social networking sites or non work related media. The library is the greatest resource tool for a university student and we have a right as paying students to have full and uninterrupted access it. I am aware that their are movements to Ban social networking sites on the PC’s in the Library something i will support to the full extent if i was elected. Another concern that has been brought to my attention is the lack of books and equipment stocked in Blackwells, i myself have experienced this problem many times and am fully committed to trying to resolve this issue, talking to Blackwells and possibly extending their online catalogue to the store. Im confident that Blackwells will work with us on this and ensuring our course needs are met. After all we are all giving £200 credit and are told to spend it on course needs which is very hard when they are not available. Continuing to make our faculty great is my main mission, with the recently announced cuts to our education system Faculty of Arts and Science courses will be the first to suffer. LETS CREATE A STRONG MESSAGE THAT WE ARE UNITED AND ENSURE OUR COURSES WILL NOT FEEL THE IMPACT AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO GROW. Voting could not be easier than it is this year, Voting will commence on the 24th March at 10 am and will close the following Thursday (31st March) at Noon. Voting is ONLINE this year which provides no excuses. For your voices to be heard i urge you to vote for me Dale Why and i promise to keep your interests at the heart of every proposal and vote i make Dale Why - Why Not?
