Lorenz Angus 19th Annual Bull Sale
22ND ANNUAL BULL SALE • APRIL 6, 2021 • A
WELCOME
Welcome to the 2021 edition of our bull sale. Despite the fact that for the last year or so the world has been a little mixed up and out of sorts with Covid, business must go on. We have developed a set of bulls that we are proud of and need to market, and our customers need to prepare for breeding this spring and summer. The pandemic did catch us by surprise in 2020 but we hope we can be more prepared for this year. Our sale will not look exactly how it has over the years, we fully expect that there will still be regulations in place regarding crowd size and we will be set up for social distancing and any other precautions we must take. We will do our best to provide a little hospitality even if the meal is not quite like it has been in the past. And of course, we welcome visitors to come early to view the offering and will offer any assistance to bid and buy virtually, whether it is online with DLMS or over the phone. As far as the offering is concerned, we have a uniform group of beef bulls that are developed at a certain pace, with their longevity and athleticism in mind. Over the years our bulls have carried less condition at times and some years have carried more body condition than they do now. We feel that for a number of years now, we have found the optimal level to develop the bulls to, where they express some maturity and will semen test well, but at the same time they are agile and athletic and will go out and perform the way they need to. The bulls are sired mostly by sire groups that are proven, the Unified and Hi Definition daughters are now in production and are making very good mother cows. The Tradeup’s are a new group, all out of first calf heifers, and they have made a great contribution to the offering. He was a bull we used because of the impeccable udders that the cows in his pedigree have as well as the tremendous foot structure that he offers. The couple fall-born bulls will offer a little extra size and maturity, they have been developed at a slower pace and we expect that they will perform well on larger cows or larger breeding pastures. The commercial cow/calf pairs are all 2 year old females with late January to mid-March born calves. The calves are sired by a calving ease Angus bull, so far they have been born easy with good vigour. Please contact us with any questions about the bulls, females or about sale day itself. We welcome visits prior to the sale and will look forward to seeing many of you on sale day. We realize that things are not quite normal with the ongoing pandemic, so if you have any concerns about attending or bidding we hope you will contact us so that we can be of assistance, after all, we are all navigating through this together. We look forward to visiting with you or hosting you sale day!

We bought this bulls Blackbird dam out of the 2019 Harvest Angus female sale and she came to us bred to Balius. She weaned 1H in September with an actual weaning weight of 930 pounds, an excellent achievement for a 2 year old first calver. Unfortunately, we lost this cow shortly after weaning, but she was an excellent uddered, extremely easy fleshing cow in a very moderate frame. This is a high performance bull, who will sire pounds and be a complete outcross to the other bulls on offer.

The dam, grandam and great grandam have all calved again in 2021 in the first cycle of our breeding exposure. Possibly the best Tradeup son and well worth a look. Tradeup 73E is a bull that sold to Jack Fiske, and we were able to use him on our heifers in his second breeding season, we chose to utilize him for his mother’s udder quality and his foot quality.

Ozark has left us with far more daughters than sons in his first two calf crops, which isn’t all bad as we are currently calving the first set of daughter’s. They are big bodied, easy fleshing and docile mother cows that seem to be doing a nice job on their calves according to early indications. This will be the only son we sell this year, with many more sons on the ground this winter for the 2022 sale.
Thank you Brian, for the many years of service to the beef industry and the Angus Breed. We appreciate your friendship and wish you the best in your retirement.

Calving ease and maternal traits show up many places in this calf’s pedigree, with Pioneer, Unanimous, and Tradeup. All three of those individuals have seen use in our heifer pen over the years, combined with an 80lb birthweight, leads us to believe that he should work on heifers himself. He weaned off of a first calver at over 700lbs, however in December he was under the weather for about a week before making a full recovery and that certainly shows in his yearling gain and performance, none the less he will be ready to see service by turnout time.

His picture says quite a bit about him, lots of shape and volume with excellent maturity and character and an ideal Angus head. 15H’s 2 year old dam did an excellent job, weaning him at a 735lb adjusted weight with just an 80lb start. This was the first year that the Titan daughters were in production and as a sire group they were our best milking, best producing first calf heifers, certainly a group that we are excited about having around as cows for years to come. Depending who you ask, 15H might be the best Tradeup in the sale.

Here is a calving ease option, who has developed into an attractive, easy doing individual. His mother and his grandmother are small cows that put everything into their calves year after year, usually weaning calves almost as heavy as themselves. Regardless how they are bred they produce early maturing progeny with early growth. With only an 82lb birthweight and excellent calving ease and birth numbers on his dam’s side of the pedigree he should work in either the heifer or cow pen. As we record more progeny on his sire 73E we expect that his calving ease and birth weight numbers will improve, he was used exclusively on heifers with good calving results.

We are just calving the first daughters now and they have square, level udders with small teat’s and good placement. She has raised high selling sons and daughters that have become donor cows, she is the center of our program and rivaled only by her own daughter, the 1Z cow. It seems as though each year our feature bull is a son of either 31X or 1Z. This year is no exception to that. 47H is in his own league in terms of breed character, presence, and mass. Breed leading calving ease, safe to use on your heifers with peace of mind. 66H is a moderate framed bull that is compact in his design and could be used on heifers for several years. Although not very big in stature, he is stout with lots of dimension and middle. His Angus Valley dam is easy fleshing with lots of calving ease. 66H had a 68lb birthweight and ranks in the top 1% of the breed for calving ease and birthweight.

Unified and Prowler have been an excellent combination for us, and 24C is one of the best Prowler daughters, with consistent, no miss calving ease. She has passed that on to this 82lb son. This will be one of the best calving ease/heifer bull options available on sale day.

The 39C cow would be one of the top 5 cows on the place, as well as her mother 45Z. So when I say that this is probably my favourite Endurance son we have ever offered, there are some stats to back it up. A very unique bull with a good head, lots of presence and character, big topped, loose middled and really sound. The cows in his pedigree have flawless udders and deep production records. He is the type we would like to use ourselves if he wasn’t so close on paper to much of our cow herd.
LA 72H AYW 1127
This endurance son is a rugged beef bull out of a model Angus cow, with huge rib shape, a perfect udder and brood cow written all over her. This is one of the good Endurance sons. The weather cut our picturing a bit short, otherwise he deserved a picture.
This is a ¾ brother to 72H, his 14 year old dam is still plenty youthful weaning this 800lb bull calf in 2020 and calving to an early AI service in 2021. A deep ribbed, good uddered cow that is typical of a Density daughter.

United was the second high selling bull in our 2019 sale to Harvest Angus, and a full brother to Unified. We only have a few sons but they are uniform in type and kind with big hips, lots of top and middle, exactly what beef bulls should look like.

This calf was a stud all summer long despite being only an end of March born. He has always had a little extra power, stoutness and maturity. He possesses the second highest adjusted weaning weight of the entire bull pen at 845lbs. His dam is one of our good young cows and his grandam is an absolute power cow, who weighed over 1800lbs when we had her across the scale a couple years ago. 88H is the right type and kind. LAF 88H

For management purposes and breeding decisions this calf was weaned in March, whereas the 103G bull got sent to grass with his mother. Without making excuses for him we believe that had he not been weaned he would have possessed the same performance as 103G. He still has that extra maturity of a fallborn. He is in the top 15% of the breed for calving ease and his pedigree says that he could be used on heifers or cows. LAF 105G
