Letter from the Editor...
Where did the summer go? It has been very busy here at the shop this summer so I suppose that is what made time just fly by. I hope you were able to get away somewhere wonderful the past few months and enjoy family, friends and a little relaxation time. For some of you that means enjoyable time with your sewing machine. For others, like me, it means digging my toes in the sand. No place to plug in at the beach! This fall, things won’t be slowing down here. We kick it all off with our annual Back To School Carnival - a very fun evening to enjoy socializing, winning prizes, and browsing our fall class lineup. During September, which is National Sewing Month, we will be celebrating with surprise discounts every day! September is also the kickoff of our all-new embroidery club, Stitch Party, which is sure to please with fun and satisfying in-the-hoop projects. Whether you are new to the craft or know your stitches and stabilizers, you will really enjoy this new party focused on your embroidery machine. October brings a true legend in color and one of my personal favorite designers, Kaffe Fassett. (It is pronounced Kay-f Fah-sett in case you were unsure.) He will be here, along with Brandon Mably, to present two classes and one Glorious Color lecture. Classes are already sold out but the lecture is a NOT TO BE MISSED opportunity even if you are not a quilter! And if that wasn’t enough, one of my favorite people, Kaye England, will be here for a wonderful three-day event. If you really want to expand your skills in piecing quilts, this is the class for you (be sure to bring some extra tissues because you will be laughing…a lot!) Well I hope you enjoy this edition of The Stash. Our 15th Annual Shop Hop is around the corner, and we have lots of new surprises for you! Our 5th Annual Sew Street Market is almost here. Turn your stash into cash by selling it at our ultimate sewing swap meet! We will be inviting our customers to be your customers for the day at this fun outdoor event. If your creative space is overflowing with fabric, patterns and notions that you no longer love, it is time for you to find them a new home. Rent a table for $30 and sell any sewing-related items you’d like. Items may include fabric, notions, used sewing machines, new or vintage quilts, craft supplies and unfinished projects, too. You also may sell your handmade finished projects and crafts because buyers love to see variety at our market. If you’re interested in being a vendor, call Stori at 702-563-8600 or email her at stori@quiltique.com to reserve your space. We are expanding the market this year but tables are still limited and will go fast. Because weather can be unpredictable (as we experienced in past years), if there is rain in the forecast for October 10th, the event will be postponed until the following Saturday, October 17th. About Kaffe Fassett…
Kaffe Fassett was born in San Francisco and when he was 19, he won a scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, but left after three months to paint in London. He later settled in England. Kaffe ventured into the world of yarn on a visit to Scotland and later worked with needlepoint. His work has been commissioned by numerous individuals. A large part of Kaffe’s output is now an expanding range of fabric prints for the patchwork market along with the Indian stripes fabric and shot cotton fabric range distributed worldwide by Westminster Fibers. Kaffe gives lectures and workshops on color in design that take him all over the world, allowing him to see how people use his fabrics and pick up inspiration.

EMBROIDERY CLUB - Starting this September
Do you want to get the most out of your embroidery machine investment? Are you looking for fun and fresh ideas and projects to make for yourself and others? If you answered yes, then we have a great opportunity for embroidery amateurs and seasoned stitchers alike!
Stitch Party is an all new embroidery club coming to Quiltique. Each month will feature a brand new, hands-on, in-the-hoop project that is fun and easy to complete in class. You will learn, grow and are sure to become a machine embroidery enthusiast (if you weren’t already). To participate, just sign up like you would any class. Classes will usually run the second Monday of each month. Each class is 3-hours and the fee is just $25 which INCLUDES the embroidery design you need to make the featured projects. If you sign up for all the parties available in the quarter (all the times listed in this Stash), you can save money and pay only $20 per class. See page 13 for class times. It is official…we are giving a permanent name to these “come quilt all day” and “bring your scraps” classes. We keep offering them and you keep signing up so we are just fine with making it a mainstay here at Quiltique. The new name is Sew Scrappy Social and we hereby solemnly swear to (1) keep finding cute scrappy quilts for you to sew, (2) feed you something to keep your energy up and, (3) continue to provide a light and relaxing classroom setting for learning and laughter. In return, you promise to (1) keep having scraps to sew the quilts with, (2) eat all the food so we don’t have to clean up leftovers and, (3) sign up and show up ready for fun. DEAL? This quarter is a Scrappy Pinwheel Quilt. Pinwheels are a whimsical and fun design reminiscent of summertime and childhood days gone by. Did you know that in the 1800’s the pinwheel blocks were used in quilts for children? These small quilts were made from worn out larger quilts that could no longer be used for practical purposes because they were beyond repair. Our pinwheel blocks are made from half square triangles and go together in a flash with the use of half square triangle paper.
