Letter from the Editor

It’s hot. I’m over it. I’m sure you are too. Or you’re one of the lucky ones with a home to go to in the summer where it is cooler and you are reading this from that place. That would be amazing and I’m available for invites! Some people do enjoy the hot weather, but I don’t think this extreme heat is comfortable for any of us, especially those suffering in places where they are not used to it. My mom used to say that this heat is just our Winter without the snow. Meaning it’s miserable but at least we aren’t shoveling snow! Amen to that. Here’s the good news…we have some cold A/C in our classroom, and we invite you to come take advantage of it!

Inevitably, fall will be here soon, and I can’t wait for that beautiful October weather. They say fall is “Quilting Season” or “Sewing Season” if you prefer. Do you agree? Do you spend more time sewing when the weather is cooler? I know for a fact that our fall and winter classes are fuller than our summer or spring, so maybe there is some truth to “Sewing Season”. Either way, we hope you will find our class lineup for the next 4 months appealing. We are trying to respond to what you like and are asking for. Do you enjoy all our longer “all day sew” type classes? They seem to be the ones that fill up the best. Or do you miss more of our project classes? Are you enjoying our technique driven offerings instead? Please watch for a survey coming your way soon and you can give us your thoughts on our class offerings. We are always looking to improve and bring you what you wish for here at Quiltique. We want to hear from you!

I hope you will consider joining us on BINGO Night coming right up (see page 4)! I know you may be wondering what happened to the Back to School Carnival. Well, we are trying something new this year in hopes to keep things fresh, fun, and unique. There are some great prizes, just like we had at Carnival but hopefully more of a relaxed atmosphere without the lines. It is a great evening to grab your sewing friends and join us for the fun, or at least the free food!

One more thing I would like to mention is something exciting that we have never done before. It is an online Sew-Along for the Lori Holt “The Quilted Witch” project. It will include videos and an online FB group for you to interact with others doing the same project and sewing along with you. Our hope is that we can bring a little of Quiltique’s awesome education to the comfort of your home. Of course, we prefer to see your smiling faces here in the shop, but this will be for the times that you just want to stay home and sew! If all goes well, we can continue to bring you fun things like this in the future so be sure to help us by showing your support for this new adventure.

TWO DAY SEW

Friday & Saturday, October 6 & 7 9:30am - 3:30pm

Would you like to bring your sewing machine, your favorite quilting tools, and maybe a quilting friend and get together to sew an easy, scrappy, and fun quilt project? GREAT! We will see you then on Friday and Saturday, October 6th and 7th for a two-day sewing retreat in our classroom. The project is Scrappy Corners by Quilty Love and we will have all the fabrics ready for you to choose from. Choose your size of throw at either 48” x 60” or 60” x 72”, then choose your pre-cut scrappy squares and even choose your own background. We will provide lunch and snacks for both days so that all you have to worry about is your ¼” seam. The price for these two days is $125, which includes all your fabrics for the quilt (no backing) and lots of yummy food. There is a $25 upcharge if you choose the larger quilt size. Come join us!

CLASS KICKOFF DAY

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH

Class Kickoff Day is almost here! This is your best opportunity (unless you join us for BINGO Night) to get signed up for our fall class lineup. We know you will be eager to learn some new techniques or grab a few friends to join us for the official kickoff of “Sewing Season”. As a reminder of our new policy, you may also sign up on our website starting this day (instead of having to wait) which is new for 2023! When you sign up on Class Kickoff Day, or any day going forward, you will receive up to 25% off* on class patterns, class supplies and class kits on the day you sign up for the class.

Remember that you can sign up for any Special Event Classes, BOM or Mastery classes at any time but no regular class signups will be available prior to Class Kickoff Day. However, as a perk, the 2023 Star Club Members can sign up a day early on Thursday, September 7th.

*Fabric kits will be discounted at 15%. All classes subject to availability. Classes cancelled by students will be refunded to a future class credit only. If you would like to help, please make a handmade Christmas Stocking (sized between 12” to 22”) filled with treats for the Vets. Items to fill stockings:

Before you know it, Christmas will be here! We here at Quiltique always want everyone to get what they wish for each year but some people in our community are not so fortunate. This holiday we would like to have underprivileged Veterans in our community receive a gift from you.

We are working with the Salvation Army of Southern Nevada to spread a little joy this holiday season. After Veteran’s “graduate” from the Salvation Army program they are moved into a place of their own. The Salvation Army usually sends them with quilts and household items, but they would like to do something special for the Holidays this year by giving them a Christmas Stocking filled with goodies. We happen to know a lot of people who can make that happen!

Upcoming Block of the Month Programs

CHROMATIC BEAUTY – January 15, 2024

This radiating new Chromatic Beauty Block of the Month Quilt design features Maywood Studio’s gorgeous Gelato Ombre fabrics! The combination of a rich, black background and shaded ombre’s makes this quilt glow from within. There are just nine different fabrics, but because of the ombre effect, you have the benefit of many more tones and shades.

The Chromatic Beauty design is 97” square and features beautiful angles and movement. The pattern will include templates for many of the blocks, making this quilt accessible to moderately skilled quilters. Add some dynamic quilting and you have a spectacular finish. Chromatic Beauty is a 12-month Block of the Month program which will begin January 15, 2024. The cost of this program is $22 per month plus a $10 enrollment fee. This includes all fabrics to make the quilt including binding. Printed full color pattern is also included. Backing is sold separately. Signups begin now!

DOOR BANNER KIT OF THE MONTH CLUB –January 30, 2024

Introducing the 2024 Door Banner 12-month Banner Kit of the Month Club featuring your favorite Riley Blake designers. Each month, you will receive one kit that includes the pattern and fabric for the 20” x 36” door banner top and binding, all packaged in a Riley Blake keepsake box. The program will begin in January with “Happy Easter” by J. Wecker Frisch so that you have enough time to finish your door banner in time for Easter in April. The February kit is “May in Bloom” by Cotton Joy, and so on and so forth. Cost is $45 per month plus a $10 enrollment fee. We will also be hosting a Door Banner class every few months starting in 2024. Kits are extremely limited! Signups begin now!

SECRET GARDEN – May 2024

Shelley Cavanna of Cora’s Quilts has done it again! The Secret Garden 12- month Block of the Month program is scheduled to begin in May of 2024. Quilt size is 80” x 92”. Quiltique will also offer 108” backing options with this kit. The cost for this program is not yet determined. Stay tuned!

THE QUILTED WITCH BLOCK OF THE MONTH AND SEW ALONG – February 2024

Get ready for some witchy and stitchy fun with a Quiltique twist! We LOVE this pattern but wanted to switch it up by making our Quilted Witch with Art Gallery Fabrics! It is after all our very first time hosting an online sew -along… so we must make ours “sew unique”! We will kick this project off in February online and continue the 1st of each month thru August so you can be finished in time for the fall and Halloween season. Follow and sew along with us each month on the corresponding featured block. We will have a fun Facebook group for all participants. Finished size is 77” x 90". Cost of this program is not yet determined. Stay tuned! *Please note that Lori Holt fabrics will not be used for this project as shown in the image.

AU NATURAL – April 1, 2024

This delicately colored queen quilt has been designed with Lisa Audit’s beautiful Au Naturel collection from Wilmington Prints as an 8-month Block of the Month program. Quilt size is 93.5” square. This program is scheduled to begin in April of 2024. Cost per month is $35 with a $10 enrollment fee. Pre-registration begins now!

JULIETTE – June 15, 2024

The Juliette 9-month Block-of-the-month program features the new Juliette fabric collection from Angela Nickeas by Wilmington Prints. The medallion-style queen quilt is 90” x 98” with a square layout of 12” and 8” blocks. This program is scheduled to begin mid-June 2024. Cost per month is $35 with a $10 enrollment fee. Pre-registration begins now!

STARS IN THE GARDEN MACHINE EMBROIDERY QUILT –February 2024

Stars in the Garden embroidery machine appliqué quilt will be a 9-month Block of the Month program. This design includes 3 Smith Street patterns: Garden Walk, Home Sweet Home, and Round About Stars to make the Stars in the Garden quilt which combines embroidery designs and pieced blocks from all 3 patterns. The finished size of this quilt is 90” square. Fabrics will be from the French Mill collection from Andover Fabrics which you can preview here. You will be able to choose your large floral border for your quilt. The cost for this program is not yet determined. Stay tuned!

HOW TO MAKE A QUILT TOP

Pre-requisite for all other quilting classes if you have never quilted before.

This beginning quilting program is designed to take you from your first cut to your last stitch and enjoy the process each step of the way. You will learn everything about making a quilt including choosing the best quilting tools and fabrics, rotary cutting with accuracy, block assembly, attaching your borders. You will finish this 5-week course with a complete quilt top – made by you! Basic sewing knowledge is required and there is sewing homework between classes. Supply list and instruction manual will be handed out during the first class. *Instruction manual purchase required at time of sign up: $15.00. MODA BLOCKHEADS

This class has been created around MODA’s Blockheads online Sew-Along. These blocks are designed by MODA fabric designers and will help you learn new skills or work on the techniques you aren’t quite comfortable with yet. Join Amber every other week to work on a technique such as Half-Square Triangles, Nesting seams, and 60-degree Triangles. In between classes you will have the opportunity to piece more blocks at home and bring questions to the next class before moving on and learning another technique. By the end of the third class, you will have learned new skills and gain confidence to keep on piecing block by block. How to Make a Quilt Top or Beginning Quilting class is a Prerequisite for this class series as basic piecing techniques will not be taught.

Join us again in December for two fun filled sewing days in our classroom. Work on those holiday projects and get them wrapped up in time for Christmas or just sew on anything you like!
