Summer days are on the way! Hurray! Hopefully that means more creative time for you. If you have been too busy to sew lately or be creative in any way, you need to find time. Taking time to use our hands, minds and energy doing something we love is of utmost importance in life. Being creative, in any form, is literally therapy for your mind. It relieves stress, increases and renews brain function and improves mood. Being creative also cultivates your social life. Especially when you visit us here at Quiltique! We have so many things happening this summer to keep you healthy and happy…sewing! We have outstanding events and activities not just for you but for the creative young ones too. Summer means Camp Sew What for your budding sewists and this year it also means Row by Row Junior. That’s right, the kids now get to be involved in Row by Row when you travel this summer to your favorite quilt shops. How great is that! In other big news… Bernina University 2017 is right here in Las Vegas this year! While you cannot attend this annual dealer only event, you CAN attend our very special BERNINA event immediately following. You will not only get to rub shoulders with Mr. BERNINA himself, Hanspeter Ueltschi, but also get an exclusive first glimpse at all the exciting new products that are launching in the coming year from BERNINA. How cool is that! We are bringing all the excitement of “BU” exclusively to you, our favorite BERNINA fans. Another way you can be creative this summer with or without the sewing machine is to place an entry into our Country Fair. That’s right, we are bringing you the charm of summers in the country with our Quiltique Country Fair. Compete for that big blue ribbon and bragging rights with your best preserves, cookies or salsa. Would you rather sew? Then place an entry in our apron contest if you are better behind the machine than the stove. It is going to be a blast and whether you compete for a prize or not, please join us for some country summer fun and yumminess too! (That’s a word right?) Before I go, I should mention that another way to be creative this summer is to party with us for our 14th Birthday Party “Color Your World”. Since creativity comes in all forms, we thought an adult coloring party would do the trick to help us keep our sanity too (besides sewing that is.). A Quiltique Country Fair Saturday July 29, 11am – 3pm Well, we don’t have a prize winning pig or a big red barn on a farm but that doesn’t mean we can’t fake it! Join us on Saturday July 29 as we bring the charm of the country to the city and a chance for you to win that big blue ribbon! And while there will not be carnival rides, there will be lots of good old fashioned country fair fun. In the food category, we are looking for those of you who can can. Preserves that is! Or who can make the best homemade farm fresh salsa and the person who has the best cookies in four states. If you think your family recipe has what it takes, a $100 Quiltique Gift Card awaits you. Plus bragging rights will go to the winners in each food category and of course, that big blue ribbon! The sewing category includes an apron design contest. Use the official Country Fair apron pattern and you will create the cutest down-home farm apron you can. A $100 Quiltique Gift Card will go to the first place winner. And of course a beautiful Quiltique Country Fair ribbon for the apron winner as well. Our honorary customer and teacher judges will decide the winners in each category and will be announced the same day. Learn from the experts... QUILTER’S PATCH Block of the Month Kickoff Class with Edyta Sitar Saturday, May 6 • 10AM CLASS FEE JUST $10! Edyta Sitar herself will be in class to kick off her Quilter’s Patch BOM and get you started off right with your quilt. All BOM participants whether you have paid for the class option or not are welcome to attend this exclusive first class. We will have a wonderful Quilter’s Spring Tea complete with refreshments, finger sandwiches and Petit Fours and of course, demonstrations with tips and tricks from Edyta’s play book. If you have not yet signed up for this BOM there is still time! Join us as we help you plan and grow a beautiful quilt garden. With each step, you will grow, refresh your quilting skills and become more precise. Edyta hopes you will challenge yourself by trying something you have not done before and enjoy learning new techniques such as machine appliqué, English paper piecing, Y-seams, Flying Geese, 60-degree triangles, templates, curved piecing, Dresden Plates and more! If you are new to many of these quilt techniques, we have an optional class with Vicky so that you don’t have to go at it alone. Cost of this Block of the Month with classes is $49 per month and without it is $34 per month. Classes will be the 1st Saturday of every month (with a few exceptions) starting with the kick off class on May 6th. There are also helpful but optional tools to make things easier for you. Acrylic templates, laser cut shapes for appliqué, matching Aurifil thread and triangle paper are all available if you desire. Finished size of the Quilter’s Patch is 75”x79”.

Piecemaking Basics, Intro to Machine Quilting and Bindings are NECESSARY for learning basic quilting skills and it is recommended that you take them, in order, before continuing to any other quilting class. Please be aware that cutting, quilting and binding skills will not be covered in any quilting classes beyond these basics.
PIECEMAKING BASICS Pre-requisite for all other quilting classes if you have never quilted before. We will start you on your journey into the joys of quilting! You will learn everything about sewing a quilt top from A to Z including: choosing the best quilting tools and fabrics, rotary cutting with accuracy, piecing techniques for your blocks, and finishing with straight borders all to make your first quilting experience a success. This class is designed for those who want to learn to quilt for the first time or as a refresher course for self-taught quilters. You will finish this 5-week course with a complete quilt top and the knowledge and tools to quilt and create on your own. These classes are open to any BERNINA Sewing Machine owner. Registration is necessary as class size is limited. Cancellation calls are appreciated as this allows another student to fill that space. There are workbook and sample kit fees for each mastery class. The class instruction fee is FREE if your machine was purchased at Quiltique. Week-long Sew Camp for Kids
Always a sell-out, our popular summer camp for young sewists is back with new projects for 2017! Camp Sew What is a creative opportunity for your kids aged 10-16 to get an introduction to sewing on their very own sewing machine! They will learn their way around a sewing machine, learn and practice basic machine techniques, and make several finished projects including their first simple quilt. Our kid-friendly staff will lead students through a series of various projects giving them an opportunity to learn different sewing skills and practice what they’ve learned. In addition to small skill-building projects, students will make a pillowcase, a stuffed owl, and finish their week by piecing a simple strip quilt and tying the top.
The $369 cost includes: – Their very own Eversewn Sparrow15 machine!** – Professional instruction – Printed Class Patterns – All the fabrics students will need…their choice! – Sewing & project notions including a sewing kit and thread colors – Healthy snacks each day and a pizza party on the last day! Special Quilt Programs Travel Dates: June 21st thru September 5th Summer means Row by Row and this year we are ON THE GO! Row by Row On The Go! is 2017’s theme and we’ll be participating again here at Quiltique. We’re super excited about Row by Row Experience’s brand new program, Row by Row Junior, too! It’s designed for kids ages 6 to 14. They travel along with an adult and can collect free row patterns designed just for them to make. Row by Row Junior follows the same rules and time schedule as adult Row by Row Experience, June 21 through Labor Day. Kids need to be in the shop to get the free pattern handout, but anyone can buy a kit. Grandmothers and traveling family can bring them home as gifts or souvenirs. Row by Row Junior designed the five different row patterns so you can be sure they are kid-friendly. We’ll be awarding “I Made This!” ribbons to the first five kids who return with something made using a Row by Row Junior pattern. Any sewing effort will be celebrated, not just quilting.
