Week 1 - Project Introduction & “The Big Idea

The purpose of this project is to create and build a kite that is conceptually able to fly which involved unlimit exploration of multilayered open space and structure that represent a rich spatial qualities , geometry, structure and reaction to nature, wind, light, sound and material.

Week 2 - Project Inspiration The gloass walls of the building is a layer of transparent structural shell within which the structural cores and tubes seamlessly build into elevators, stairs, fitting rooms and display shelves.

Week 4 - First Iteration

The first iteration of my model was build with Balsawood with assistance of glue gun. The half size scale (6” x 6” x 6”) cube gives endless opportunities to explore the frame and structures of the future “box kite”.

Week 5 - Second Iteration The 2nd model iteration came with changing grid size of different surfaces and adding some tunnels between surfaces to create space and relationship from side to side.

14

Week 6 - Third Iteration The third iteration is a full size(12” x 12” x 12”) model. Despite the other benefits of using Basswood, it was easier to bend compared to Balsa wood. The model was twisted by the tension of cloth after adding a couple of tunnels.

Final Model - The Joint The finale model with full size (12” x 12” x 12”) was build with ¼” balsa wood.

The tunnel fabric is made from polyester nylon.
