Jazz in the Valley is a fund-raising event hosted by my alma mater. I toured the American Jazz Museum here in Kansas City to research this project. Looking at the design promotions of yesteryear inspired me. I endeavored to also capture the bouncing energy of jazz as well as the feel of a sultry night out on the town, sipping a drink under the neon lights while patronizing your favorite jazz joint.

I had to look at several examples of modular typefaces to help me create one. Then I developed a few letters of five different modular typefaces to finally land on this display typeface used in this poster for MCC–Penn Valley’s On the Grid exhibition. Inspired by the literal building block toys I used in childhood, I designed this On the Grid promotional poster & typeface.

My infographic design informs viewers of the frustrating realities of the current American plastic recycling programs. Large amounts of data, condensed to illustrate its summation, this infographic communicates beyond the words alone. Crossing over between a land & sea environment shows the problem is everywhere. The Mobius loop arrows convey that this problem is cyclical.

KC Zine Con is a local NPO that organizes & hosts an annual DIY publishing convention. Zine Scouts is a series of events by KC Zine Con. This design solution spoke to the audience of zinesters who are interested in activism through zines. To capture the vibe & feel they wanted this event to represent, I did a little “DIY” of my own. Some old jeans, a little button, masking tape with marker were just the ticket to reach the desired audience.
