We call this age a gr ea t age. yet to come.
But the greatest age is
That will be when you who are now college
students have assumed the role of community, st.ale, and national leaders,
Your present obligation is to get that
sort of training, r egardless of th e type or leveL which will best fit yo u for that leadership.
Such leadership consists
of four dynamic and inseparable e leme nts:
ing, unselfi shness. and service.
Ability, train
I cove t for you a generous
portion of all these . Faithfully yours,

Our Purple and Gold football squad completed a sea son th at was both satisfactOl'y and highly promising fo r next seaSOn. Though last y ear' s wonder team graduated almost in a body, Coach Malone s et out to build a team fr om his f ew returnin g letterm en and a large group of p rom ising fr eshm en. The 1936 season was n either extremely successf ul nor disappointing, Out of nine ga m es the Indians won f our , lo st foUl', and tied one. The serio us ha ndicap throughout t he year was the plague of injuries that swep t the squad, making it necessary to revamp the starting line-up for every ga me. But t he 1936 squad will be back alm ost man for m an next fall; t h ey have had a year of experience t ogeth er under Coach Malone; several promising newcomers have looked good in spring training ; a.nd prospects for 1937 look bri g ht.

The India n s opened the 1936 footba ll season with a 13-12 Victory ove r Centenary of Shre vepmt. The f am e of the strong Cente nary Gents. combined with the notable record m ade by Coach Malone's gridsters las t season, served to dra w one of the largest ga tes in North eas t Center history. Althou gh l,he f ir st Quarter proved a nip a nd tuck affair, th e second period found the Indians in much better form. After s everal s uccessive gains had pushed the ball deep into Centen3l'y's terrltory. Kellogg carried the oval over (or the first tou ch down of the g'ame. Following this touc hdown came th e successful kick from placement by Mosley that gave the Indians their margin of victory. The second score was m a,de by Blanks, who wa.s on the rece iving· end of a beautiful pass from Yates. Des perat.e passing attacks enabl ed th e Gents to score both their touchdowns. Although the Indians were vie~ torious, they suffered by having t wo of their s tella r line performe,·s injured. The injuri es of Bumpers a nd H a rrell began a jinx that did not let up the entire sea,,>on.

Here the Indians made a sensa tionsl , but futile g'oal-line s tand, for a moment late r an unfor t unate kick enabled the invaders to score. Sev er a l more threat.s were presented by the Tige rs, but the Redskins repelle d them. In the second period the Indians began a. determined drive which stopped the expected routing by the veteran inva ders snd ins tiga t ed a nip and tuck affair which r eached its climax in the th ird period. It was then t h at Mosley r ecover ed a Tiger fumb le on h is own 32-yard line a nd the R edskins swept down th e fi eld for sixty-e igh t yards snd a touc hdown. Johnson ma de the tally by s tepping across the goal afte r receiving a pass, while standing in the sou theasr corner of th e field . from K ellogg. Kellogg ma.de a success ful kick fr om placement for t.he extra point, which pushed Center one pOint in the lead . However, this taste of victory was sh ort-Jived. In th e last period Ouachita's power again asserted itsc lf and a few momen ts before the closing whistle t h ey completed a pass a.cross the goal, thus winning a 12- '7 victory over Nor theast Center.
