Business Tip Are You Tired of Being an Advertising Victim? The Definition of Insanity is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results. Does this Sound Like your Marketing?
It is possible to use your advertising dollars in ways that create measurable Return On Investment in a very short amount of time. There is a group of business owners that meet once a month to discuss this type of marketing and work on improving our businesses for our clients and ourselves. Some of use have been attending these meetings for close to 8 years. This group is NOT a networking group. It is not a DO IT FOR YOU group. They are not waiting for the economy to improve. It is about implementation, measurement and accountability. In other words RESULTS. If this might be a good fit, send an email to Rolf@Jerrols.com and I’ll reply back with additional information.
The End of a Chapter As I put the final touches on this newsletter I am preparing to head off to Pullman this weekend to help my daughter, Jordan, move out of her apartment and put her stuff in storage. I realize the chapter in my life of having kids in college has come to a close. Jordan graduated from WSU this summer with ZERO debt, due to extremely good grades, summer jobs in High School and working while in college. Yes, we helped some, but she did most of the heavy lifting and was able to graduate a year early. So you might ask, “moving back home?” Well no; she is actually off to the oil fields of North Dakota (of all places!) to put her degree in communications and journalism to work. Exactly what job that will be has yet to be determined, but it is there that she has decided to go. Her mom jokes with her about becoming the face of fracking! Looking back, I can see how all the little things we did as a family seemed to make such a big difference in Jordan’s choices. Things like talking about money, work, goals, and even eating meals together and cooking real foods. Reading books and discussing values. I had the opportunity to spend a several hours with her while driving to our vacation at the beach this summer. We discussed Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged and Fountain Head. She had read Fountain Head in high school, and discussed Rand’s philosophy in her media ethics class this summer, just as I was just finishing Atlas Shrugged. Big ideas for a big and interesting world full of possibilities. It will be interesting to watch the next chapter in Jordan’s life unfold. Our influence on it is has now become limited…. P.S. Dress Shirts at Jerrol’s
I have been wearing some of these since January and they still look great.
Only $39.99 There are five things that really bug me about most dress shirts: 1. They come un-tucked when you move, so you spend half your day tucking the sides of your shirt back into your pants. 2. A breast pocket that is too small to hold a pen, so half of it is sticking out above your pocket. 3. Buttons that are so small and thin you can hardly button them and they feel like they are going to break. 4. Fade overtime when dry cleaned. 5. 500 pins that you have to remove before you can wear them. So, I have been on the hunt of a decent shirt that will hold up over time and — after half a year of testing a new line of shirts — I can say with confidence that You can now find a quality, basic dress shirt right here at Jerrol’s. With the same non-iron finishing treatment as more expensive brands, it is a twill shirt that will keep you professional looking long past five o'clock. It is a 4oz, 100% cotton shirt.
These shirts1. Are full length, so I NEVER have to tuck back in the sides of my shirt 2. Have full sized breast pockets, 6” deep, so your pen fits all the way in. 3. Buttons that feel like they will last forever. 4. I laundered several of them over 26 times and they still look great. And Amy at the dry cleaner’s says this is her favorite shirt to work on. 5. NO pins to remove when you buy them! Oh yeah, and get this — when you buy them you don’t have to spend a half hour removing pins out of them. They come with NO PINS to be removed. You will find three colors in stock: black, white and ultramarine blue. We can order additional colors shown in just 5 days at no extra charge. - Rolf

Can you believe it is August already? Growing up my all-time favorite activity was camping. One year by chance, I got to meet Smokey the Bear who was making a cameo appearance at our campground. I was about 8 years old and it was love at first sight!! Due to my “affinity” for Mr Smokey, as well as facing the Taylor Bridge fire later on in life, this subject is near and dear to my heart.

Jerrol’s Building Expansion Update In July we formally filed our plans with the City of Ellensburg for a building permit. They came back to us with a few requests for clarification and some minor changes. Those have since been addressed and we are waiting for the final OK and the issuing of our building permit. Yesterday I had a great conversation with Joe Seemiller our Fire Marshall for Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue. He offered up several great things to keep in mind for preventing fires: Keep your car tuned up. Many fires are started on the roadside by broken down cars. Keep your bearings greased up so they don’t get hot. When hauling a trailer, don’t let the safety chains drag on the pavement, creating sparks. If you have to pull over, use the shoulder, not the dry brushy grass area. Have you ever walked along the shoulder of the freeway? If so, you’ve seen thousands of cigarette butts. It only takes one to start a fire. Keep them in a car until they can be properly disposed of. For Barbequeing, use a grill fueled by propane or natural gas instead of wood or charcoal. If wood or charcoal is not fully extinguished and one of our famous night-time wind gusts comes up, it can tip over, spilling the hot coals to ignite whatever is in its path. According to Fire Marshall Seemiller, depending on who you talk to, it is estimated that 12-20 million dollars were spent on fire suppression costs during the Taylor Bridge Fire. Hearing that, I couldn’t help wonder how many homes would have been saved if just a fraction of that was spent on prevention such as sending local crews into the field for fuel suppression (underbrush removal) and other fire prevention tatics. There are some really fun things on the www.SmokeyBear.com website to help educate youngsters on fire prevention. Such as this awesome Downloadable Disney Planes Activity Book: Kids can also sign up for a newsletter and sign the Smokey Bear Pledge to prevent wildfires. C’mon now, make Smokey Proud!!
