Skiing has always been something special in my family. My parents met skiing, and I learned to ski when I was three. Growing up, every weekend we would pile into the the family white ford van and head up to the pass or over to Mission Ridge. All us kids went through the school district ski school program and Dad volunteered there for years. I think the one thing I could have skipped school for—not that I ever did—would have been to go skiing. As I write this newsletter, we are packing for a week long trip to Big Mountain, MT. I must have been 10 or so my first trip there with the family. I still have many great memories of that trip and the many that followed. I’ll never forget the first time I met the Snow Ghosts. Even in High Snow Ghosts at Big Mountain School I, and a group of friends, found a way to road trip to Whitefish to ski. Not sure what my parents were thinking at the time—probably that at least I wouldn’t be around the house… We continued the tradition after college, but stopped when about 10 years ago. It was just too complicated with Gerik to travel so far and Jordan busy in school. We are excited to take Mom, who is still skiing into her 80’s, along with son, Gerik, and my sister, Elizabeth, and her family. It will be fun to have Gerik try skiis again. He does great with his balance but never seems to feel the need to turn or stop which can be a small issue now that he is 6 foot tall and 180 pounds.! -Rolf P.S. In A Different Key John Donvan Caren Zucker $30.00 Nearly seventy-five years ago, Donald Triplett of Forest, Mississippi, became the first child diagnosed with autism. Beginning with his family’s odyssey, In a Different Key tells the extraordinary story of this often misunderstood condition, and of the civil rights battles waged by the families of those who have it. Unfolding over decades, it is a history of ordinary people determined to secure a place in the world for those with autism—by liberating children from dark institutions, campaigning for their right to go to school, challenging expert opinion on what it means to have autism, and persuading society to accept those who are different. ______________________________

Bryony is a British-born botanical watercolorist and illustrator who lives in Vancouver BC. She works in washes of pure color, preferring to layer, rather than mix, after an initial drawing has been made. The non-mixing of color she learned in Devon, England, and it is a gloriously fresh approach to watercolor. Bird specimens from CWU Biology Department will be used for models in the class. More information and online registration for this 2 day class is available at Bryony.Jerrols.com.

I never seem to have enough magnets to hold up all the cool stuff on my fridge. So for this month's craft I decided to get some plain magnets (from Jerrol's) and adhere them to random things I found around the house. I grabbed my favorite watch (which broke the other day), an old necklace with a picture of me as a baby, (sorry mom but I'll never wear it) a painted rock, a penny, and some toys that my kids left lying around. After I gathered my stash, I used "tacky glue" and let them dry overnight. They turned out great! Not only do these upcycled magnets keep things on your fridge, they also get rid of unwanted clutter around the house. You can use things you find on your desk, your countertops, even off the floor. It's become my new favorite way to tidy up. Hope you have as much fun as I did! You can reach Corrie at Corrie@Jerrols.com
