Phenomneal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can’t see. I say, It’s in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Now you understand Just why my head’s not bowed. I don’t shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing, It ought to make you proud. I say, It’s in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need for my care. ’Cause I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.
Turnip greens and cornbread Was the food you fed me as a baby when mama told you to, And I loved you for it. Summertime fun with you and papa Waking up to you cooking eggs, ham, and toast, You letting me run through the sprinklers while you watered the back yard, And us eating roasted peanuts or cake and ice cream while looking at the tv I remember that. The teachings you taught me Such as how to save a dollar, And being there for each other, And all the hugs, kisses, and laughter we shared I cherish them. But most of all, I will miss you. I love you, granny! Your Grandson,
Brandon
Reflections
Reflections of a Life Well Lived Mrs. Annie Ruth Glason affectionately known as “Ruth” was born to the late Melvin Price and Lena Bogard Price, on September 27, 1926, in Ashland, Mississippi.
Annie accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Ashland, MS and was a Lifetime Member of Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church in Memphis, TN where she was a member of the Stewardess Board, C. A. Powell Club, the Up-to-Daters, and a former Member of the Gospel Choir. She was a lady of great leadership abilities and strength. She dedicated 40 beautiful years to the Memphis City School System where she was a teacher up until retiring on May 20, 1987. The excellent services and professionalism that she rendered will never be forgotten. Annie’s favorite pass time was admiring God’s creations by being in the yard and loving beautiful flowers, as well as sewing. She was also a lover of the color red. “Ruth” embraced family by being the originator, founder, and creator of the Family Circle Club which started the Price Family Reunion in 1975 on Barksdale St. in Memphis, TN. The enjoyment of family spending time together, traveling the country and fellowshipping warmed Annie’s heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Festus J. Glason and her son Mr. Willie L. Price. On February 22, 2019, 7:42 P.M. Mrs. Annie Ruth Glason’s earthly walk and duties were put to rest. Our Lord and Savior summoned her, and she graciously answered her call. She was a blessing to her family and church members for 92 years, and she will forever be remembered in our hearts. Her loving memories will be cherished by her daughter, Carole Seiferth, five grandchildren; Eric, Pam, Chandra, Antwon, and Brandon, four great-grandchildren, two god-children and caretakers; Addie and Dave Merchant and a host of other relatives, friends, and church members. Do not ask me to remember. Do not ask me to remember. Let me rest and know you’re with me. Kiss my cheek and hold my hand. I’m confused beyond your concept. I am sad and sick and lost. All I know is that I need you to be with me at all cost. Do not lose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse my cry. I can’t help the way I’m acting, Can’t be different though I try. Just remember that I need you. That the best of me is gone. please don’t fail to stand beside me, Love me till my life is done.

The family deeply appreciates and will always hold in great remembrance the kind expressions of sympathy. Perhaps you sent a card, made a telephone call, sent a text, said encouraging words, prayed for us or with us, held our hands, or told a joke to make us smile. During a time like this, we realize how much our family and friends mean to us. We felt the love in your thoughtfulness. Thank you so much.
