Life’s Reflections

Bennie

was born June 23, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Lucas Mayfield and the late Mattie Mayfield, both of Ecru, Mississippi. Bennie accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ before his passing. He was united in holy matrimony for 38 years to Mrs. Margaret A. Mayfield, who precedes him in death. In

high school, Bennie possessed great athleticism and was a triathlete lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated in 1970 from Southside High School, where he played quarterback for the “Scrappers.” He received a college football scholarship to further his education and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was dubbed the nickname “House Cat.” In 1972, Bennie returned to Memphis and worked in logistics for several years and retired from Yellow Roadway Carriers in 2010. Bennie was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Mayfield. Bennie is survived by his daughter, Laquitta Mayfield (Anthony) Hodges and god-daughter, Angelica Rucker; sons, Bernard (Cleo) Mayfield, Jr., Damon Thomas of Texas, Marceo McCulley, Maceo (Katrina) Mayfield, Corey Mayfield, and Justin Mayfield; sisters Ella Mayfield (Freddie) Hamlett and Patricia Mayfield Lee; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Herron, Luther Mayfield, Donnie Mayfield, seventeen grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

I’m FreeA friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has chosen for me. I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I’ve now found peace at the end of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys.

Oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow Look for the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don’t lengthen your pain with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee, God wanted me now-He set me free
