essie Mae Bowen

was born August 29, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Joe Dean and Aliene Carter. She was one of six daughters and one son. After her parents’ death, Bessie and her three sisters were raised by Joe and Mary Carter, their aunt and uncle. She accepted Christ at an early age at Burdette United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully on various church committees. Bessie married Eugene Bowen on September 29, 1947, in Marshall County, Mississippi. Bessie retired from Methodist Hospital Central in 1990 after 18 years of service as a Central Supply Technician. On Thursday, February 11, 2021, Bessie transitioned from earth to her heavenly home and received complete peace and freedom. Bessie leaves to cherish her loving memory to her daughter, Daisy Cleaves; granddaughter, Chandra Cleaves; three grandsons, Darryl Cleaves, Damon Cleaves (T’Shanie) and Dean Cleaves; nine greatgrandchildren; sister, Alice Clyde Ward; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 King James Version

Weary

God saw you getting weary. He did what He thought best. He put His arms around you and said, “Come and rest.” He opened up His golden gates on that heartbreaking day, and with His arms around you, you gently slipped away. It broke our hearts to lose you; You did not go alone. A part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
