Life’s Reflections

Betty James Parham, born January 15, 1935, the 4th born of Izola Alexander

and James Qualls Sr. She professed a hope in Christ at New Shiloh M.B. Church. She later became a member of Cane Creek M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Leonard Dawson. She attended Melrose High School and was a proud “Golden Wild Cat.” In the year of 1956, she was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Lee Parham, and to this union, six children were born. Betty and Ed Lee lived and raised their family at 1457 Kimball, where she was a proud homemaker and lived until her death. She was a licensed cosmetologist and loved making her client and children pretty. Her favorite saying was, “More hair, Grow Long.” She was always well dressed and had a new purse and hair for every outfit. She loved to sew, collect pictures of her family and loved ones, and work crossword puzzles every day. To many, Betty Parham was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. We shall cherish the values she taught and forever love him for such a giving spirit. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Eddie Lee Parham, a son Michael Qualls and a daughter Lisa Smith. She leaves to mourn her passing four children; Janet L. Qualls, Sharon P. Bankston, Stephanie D. Hudson, and Kevin T. Parham (LaTonya); three siblings; Eva Qualls Scott, Laura Qualls Smith, and Kenneth Qualls; two sisters in law; Annie Ruth Qualls and Debra Qualls; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”
