Life’s Reflections B
ettye L. Newton was born on April 13, 1937, to the late Delores
Ferguson Agnew (Glen) and Simon Dickerson in Memphis, TN. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Memphis City School system—a proud Melrose Wildcat Alumni. She married the late Alfred Newton, and two children were born to their union. Bettye loved the Lord and the Bible. She especially loved Sunday School. She allowed her light to shine on all those who knew her. She had a phenomenal memory and excelled at games like Jeopardy and Scrabble. She enjoyed watching sports and news programs. Bettye Newton departed this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Reginald Newton (Florence); daughter, Deborah Newton Davis; granddaughters, Devan Davis and April Newton Davis (Dallas); grandsons, Reggie Newton and Derrick Davis; great-grandchildren, Riley Newton, Ava Houston, and Odessa Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends. Her only sister, Virginia Ann Matthews, preceded her in death. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalms 23

People would meet my Mother & say, I really like your Mother. She was genuine & saw the positives in life. She introduced me to the love of music. I was Flip to her until I made her mad. I then became REGINALD. My Mom was Google before there was Google. She gave the best gifts in the world. It would always be what you wanted. Our zodiac signs were Aries, so we both had to always be right. Her faith was strong & when I was a child, each night without fail, she would get on her knees & pray. I would not have made it this far without God, my wife, my sister & a slew of Angels (my family members). Last but not least, our new Granddaughter, Odessa Reiny, made my Mom’s life a pure joy. Thank you, Lord, for the Journey. We honor & Praise you.

My Mom was a force to be reckoned with. Every person she talked to or had a conversation with was in awe of her. Your unconditional love was unwavering, & taught me how to be the woman I am. I thank you for your love, support, & being not only the best Mother ever. You were my best friend. You ARE MY FRIEND for the duration of my LIFE. I love you!
