Blanche Anita Stone was born May 24, 1951, to the

late Dorothy Gardner and Samuel Douglas. Blanche, more affectionately known as “Ne Ne,” was the third of nine children within the Douglas lineage. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Greater Middle Baptist Church. While at GMBC, Blanche was a member of the Mass Choir, Bereavement Ministry, and an active member of the Usher Board until she was called home to be with the Lord. She attended the public schools of Memphis, TN, and graduated from Melrose High School. While attending Melrose High School, Blanche connected with her neighborhood friend Charles Stone. The two married and welcomed two children, Barbara and Charles. Blanche is survived by her husband Charles, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Reginald Adair, and son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Marquetter Stone. Her legacy will be cherished by her six grandchildren, Courtney Adair, Jasmine Stone, Jessica Adair, Brandon Stone, Kierra Stone, and Samariah Johnson; and five rambunctious great-grandsons, Mason Brown, Zaveion Brown, Carter Adair, Ayden Brown, and Keilen Stone. She leaves behind eight siblings Samuel Douglas (Barbara), Thelma Ellis (Nelson), Rochelle Douglas, Carmack Douglas, Tschavnia Quinn (James), Gloria Douglas, and Jeffrey Ann Parson (Victor) and a host of other relatives and friends. Her passion was cooking for others and watching them enjoy her meals. No one could ever turn down a batch of her spaghetti or a slice of one of her cakes. It’s no surprise that she served as a baker at St. Francis Hospital, where her love was transfused into everything she made.

Ma, My heart is broken, but I know that you’re at peace and in no more pain. This process has been so overwhelming for me, but I will dig deep inside myself and embody your strength. You’re a genuine individual and an awesome mom. It’s truly been an honor being your daughter. You taught me the importance of being humble, compassionate, kind, and willing to help others. About six years ago, you and I reversed roles, and I became the parent, and you became the child. You followed my rules most of the time, except when it came to you cooking up a storm for all of us. I’ve always been able to lean on you... I always told you I got you, little did I know I would be there by your side at your last breath. Even though I know you are finally resting, I will forever miss hearing your voice and calling you 50 times a day for the smallest thing… “Ma is it raining out by you?” “Did you eat?” Words can’t even describe how much you mean to me. You are my heart; now it’s time for you to be my angel. Love Your Baby Girl,

Barbara
