~Obituary ~
Dorothy Jean Mickens Polk
was born February 18, 1939, to the late Tom and Margaret Mickens in Jackson, TN. After moving to Memphis, she accepted Christ and united with the Greater New Salem Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Usher’s Ministry, Kitchen Ministry, and Mother Board until her health failed. Many who knew Dorothy knew her to be one who was a master in the kitchen, and she is known for providing food and help to so many in the South Memphis area. Mother Polk is affectionately known to her family as one who was the organizer and peace maker and found herself many times having to step in and help other children in the neighborhood. Her love of God was shown in many ways but most importantly how she spent most of her time caring for and assisting the Church in whatever capacity needed. She was employed for many years at Milan Army Ammunition Plant in Milan, TN where she was a Supervisor until her retirement. Her coworkers all knew her for her exceptional quality of service and work ethic. She married Jessie James Polk, and to this union, five children were born; three of which preceded her in death, Lorraine, Cheryl, and James. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Jessie James; daughter, Margaret Turner (Bobby); and one son Willard Dodd, twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

I’m Still Here
I may be gone but please don’t cry. Death is not the last goodbye Death releases me of my pain. There will come a time when we will meet again Don’t be blue and don’t be sad. Look back to the fun we had I am always here to hear you speak. In times of trouble it’s me you seek You don’t see me but I see you. I will do my best to pull you through Speak to me and I will hear. Never far am because I’m always near Leave me alone and do not cry. See you again so it’s not goodbye!
