~Obituary ~ Mrs. Earline “Sweet” Gardner was born to M. L. Brooks and Maggie Elizabeth McKinney Brooks in Memphis, Tennessee.
Earline received her formal education through the Memphis City School System at the Home of the Golden Wildcats, Melrose High School. Mrs. Gardner was truly blessed. She was born on August 6, 1935, and departed this life on April 8, 2017, in the comforts of her own home that she shared with her family. Her home was always opened to family and friends who were in need of food and/or lodging. As God allowed her to get into her golden years, Mrs. Gardner often expressed “God is good” in conversations with family members as they cared for her. She was preceded in death by her parents M.L. and Maggie Brooks, her loving husband Freddie Lee Gardner, her eldest son, Edward Lee Brooks, her beloved siblings: Louis Brooks, Eddie Brooks, Earl Brooks, Adolphus (Cal) Brooks, Melvin Brooks, Anna Lee Brooks-Lewis, Betty Brooks-Banks and Dorothy Brazzel. She leaves to mourn her passing four loving sons: Michael Brooks (Robin), Larry Brooks (LaWanda), Jeffery Brooks, and Keith Gardner; one sister Lois Brooks-Coleman, who was there to do whatever was needed to make Earlene’s last years comfortable, one brother Charles Howard Brooks and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

I’m Still Here
I may be gone but please don’t cry. Death is not the last goodbye Death releases me of my pain. There will come a time when we will meet again Don’t be blue and don’t be sad. Look back to the fun we had I am always here to hear you speak. In times of trouble it’s me you seek You don’t see me but I see you. I will do my best to pull you through Speak to me and I will hear. Never far am because I’m always near Leave me alone and do not cry. See you again so it’s not goodbye!
