Life’s Reflections
Eddie Lee Raiford, Sr. was born on September 7, 1930, in Byhalia, Mississippi, to Bill and Lena Raiford. From a young age, he embraced his faith and accepted Christ under the guidance of Rev. P.J. Yancy at Westend Baptist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas. Eddie served as a dedicated deacon, embodying the values of his faith throughout his life.
On November 18, 1949, Eddie married the love of his life, Dorothy Raiford. Their bond was a true testament to enduring love, as they shared a “Notebook” love story for an incredible 67 blissful years. Together, they raised five children: Eddie, Jr., Clarence (Earnestine), Burmestine (James), Mary Alice, and Cornell (Shawn). While Eddie, Jr. (Janie) has preceded him in death, his legacy lives on through his surviving children.
In 1968, the Raiford family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, where they became cherished members of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, led by Rev. James E. Slaughter. Eddie’s unwavering commitment to his church spanned an incredible 56 years, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Professionally, Eddie dedicated 25 years of his life to Bridgestone, Firestone, demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. His contributions were deeply valued by his colleagues and the company. Eddie leaves behind a beautiful family, including ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Their names - Antonio, Niki, Tamika (Sean), Corey, Michael, Erica, Nekeisha (Darrius), Clarence Jr., Jeanette, and Tiara (John) great-grandchildren - Tatiuna, Angel, Taelon, Cameron, Christian, Michael Jr, Tyhler, Lauren, Kensleigh, and John P. will forever be etched in his heart. He also leaves behind two brothers, King Raiford and John Henry Raiford, who shared a special bond with him throughout his life. Eddie was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosetta and Jewell, as well as four brothers, Jol, Robert, John Jr., and JoeNathan. Their memories will always be cherished. While words cannot fully capture the depth of Eddie Lee Raiford, Sr.’s impact on the lives of those around him, his legacy of faith, love, and dedication will continue to inspire and guide us. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing to all who knew him.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
