We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

By Bessie Anderson Stanley That man is a success –who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love ofchildren; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it; who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.

Life’s Reflections

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Philippians 1:21 Edward Earl Bowden (Big Ed) was born September 3, 1960, to Shirley Pruitt and the late Haywood Coleman in Memphis, TN. God called him home on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the Memphis VA Medical Center. Edward was a happy, loving, and spoiled child from the beginning. He was a part of a huge family, but still found a way to stand out in the midst of the crowd. Ed was a huge lover of football and basketball. His love for these sports began when he joined the football and basketball teams in high school. Ed attended Hillcrest High School were he graduated in 1979. He joined the U.S. Army in 1984 and served honorably for years. He was awarded a leadership/management certificate at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1985. He accepted Christ at an early age at New Era Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Edward received his Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology from Christian Brothers University in July 2010. He took that degree and started to assist other veterans like himself, when he began working for Veteran Affairs. Edward retired from the Louisville VA Medical Center as a Voluntary Service Assistant in September of 2021, to return to his first love, his family. Edward was known to be the life of the party and adored spending time with his family. He considered himself the protector of the family. Some would say he was the family bodyguard when it came to the women in the family. Outside of the love for his family, there was an unconditional love for Orange Mound and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“For to me, to live is Christ {He is my source of joy, my reason to live} and to die is gain {for I will be with Him in eternity.”
