Mr.Elbert Earl Woods was born April 25, 1945, to the late Willie
Woods and Adell Stirgus in Memphis, TN. He was the last child of seven children to carry on the legacy of his parents. Elbert joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Norsworthy. He was a proud graduate of the class of 1964 at Melrose High School and always showed his love and support for Melrose High School as an alumni member. Elbert joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He was a huge fan of all sports, but a die heart Raiders fan. Elbert had a voice of a king, which will be remembered for years to come. He would open his heart and home to anybody that embraced his presence. Elbert loved to eat; food was always his top priority at any given time. Elbert also loved everybody, but there was always a special place in his heart for Rev. Don Williams, Jay Blount, Milton Murray, Thurston Hill, Sonny Table, Dorothy Rooks, Mary Ann Wallace, and last but not least Judy Cheairs. Elbert greatest enjoyment was riding around town with his wife, listening to music, watching T.V., especially sports, eating out and going to concerts. He loved his dear Devetra and was a huge support for her as they built a loving 21-year relationship before they entered marriage. He had such an affectionate way of calling her name especially when he was ready to eat. This past February 28th, their Anniversary, held one final and fond memory as they brought home Red Lobster for dinner and Elbert learned to eat Lobster for the first time. Elbert departed this life on March 9, 2018. Proceeding him in death was one son, Darrell Franklin. He leaves to cherish his many memories, a caring and loving wife, Devetra Woods, his devoted sons, Elbert Scott, Marcus Woods (Yashica), Denzel Woods, and Isaiah Yates; his daughters, Marla Woods, Trina Jordan, and Destinee Yates; his beloved grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; Jimmie Mae Woods and Romanita Rainey, a brother-in-law, Michael Davis (Iris) of Tampa, Florida; his mother-in- law, Dorothy Parker Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
